Wall Mounting the 32" LED TV?

HI Guys,

We have just purchased the "Samsung - UA32H5500 - 32" Series 5 FHD LED TV" and would like to wall mount it in bedroom. Can you please tell us what things (items / accessories) we will need to wall mount it? Appreciate if you can point those out with rough price range.

Thanks

  • You need a wall mount kit, and then you can attach it to the wall… But is your wall masonry, gyprock, anything else? And assuming it's your place, not a rental.

    • BTW, a fairly cheap and reliable place to get the kits is here. http://www.selby.com.au/brackets-and-wall-mounts/lcd-led-pla…

But you still need to attach it to the wall somehow, and that depends on what the wall is made of. And if you're in a rental, prepare to lose your bond.

      • You will need to locate and attach the screws into the studs into the wall, not the plaster, it won't hold the weight. (A simple stud finder from Bunnings can help)

You can always hire a handyman to do it for you, or get a friend who knows what they are doing.

I have done it three times in different rentals and have not lost my bond, but make sure you repair the damage you have caused when you leave if you are renting. Not a bodgy job either, you may have to repaint the whole wall.

        • Thanks guys. We have gyprock wall and its our own property not the rental. What sort of damage u guys referring here?

        • You will have some holes in your wall after you're done. If you take the TV down, you'll need to fill in the holes with plaster and repaint. But if you use the studs and not a spreader plate, then the damage is minimal.

        • Have a look on youtube for people that have mounted them before. Basically you need to mount the plate/tv on a stud within the wall.

To find the stud, you can do it a few ways, stud finder, Drilling a hole, or going through and existing hole (i.e. a power point) and using something stiff to find the stud.

Mount quality depends on the movement required. The more independent movement, and the heavier the tv, the more it will cost.

As for wires, you'll probably want to clean it up. Either get a licensed electrician to install a power point where the tv is. Or be a bit naughty and run cables through the dry wall and out the bottom like this - may or may not be legal.

Damage to the wall. Basically the holes drilled will need to be eventually filled. Process involves just plastering over the hole, sanding, then repainting. If you've got wallpaper, that's a bit more of a problem. If you think wall mounted tvs are the future, you may never have to cover the holes created.

I'm not an expert, but hopefully that will get you started.

  • Ahh got you now :) thanks.

Any specific recommendation for the unit / accessories to wall mount this size tv?

  • I have one of these for my 32", but given that it's on masonry, I didn't have to worry about stud spacing.
    http://www.selby.com.au/brackets-and-wall-mounts/lcd-led-pla…

They mention that it can handle up to 450mm of stud spacing. So you might need to do some measurement first

  • do the antenna and power cabling keep on hanging wall under the wall mount unit?

    • You have the Electrician install the power point above the wall mount and the TV Antenna guy do the same, making shore that the outlets are on the same side as the TVs sockets are.
Then if you have access down the internal cavity of the wall, run the HDMI cables down in side of the wall cavity to the cabinet below, including a TV Antenna cable with a 2-way splitter to the TV and the cabinet below, down to the Foxtel IQ/Austar MyStar box or any PVR with a recording HDD that often have a HDD & a Blue-Ray Player in one, STB, TiVo (Set Top Box with PVR)that has a TV tuner in it!!!

  • thanks guys.

so where do u generally keep / place the remote when not using?
seems like we will need to add a hanging shelf or something?
    any inputs?

    • You could try to get a small strip of stick on velcro to attatch to the side of T.V. or bedpost/bedside table. Just an idea that I'm sure suits some.

  • Thanks everyone.

We are thinking to give this job to the trade person or someone. We will buy wall bracket from selby.

    • Whom we should be looking for this? A electrician or Carpenter or?
    • Just rough idea in how much $ that guy would ask for?
