~70% off Wenger Swiss Army Knives + $7.95 Std Ship (Free > $65 spend) - TheFrontier.com.au

431

TheFrontier.com.au have amazing deals on Wenger Swiss Army Knives. Free shipping on >$65 spends, otherwise expedited is $14.95, standard $7.95. My choice was the EvoGrip S18, $31.79 (RRP $109.95). http://www.thefrontier.com.au/Products/Knives/WENGER-EvoGrip… It's the most fully-featured knife on offer, with locking blade, saw and scissors. These babies usually are minimum ~$60 and are hard to find in Australia. I'm a bit of a Swiss Army Knife tragic. I own a handful of Victorinox ones, but was interested in trying out a Wenger and at this price it was easy to pull the trigger.

EvoGrip S18 features:
Ergonomic handles with rubber
2.5" Locking Blade
2.75" Double-cut wood saw
2.4" Springless scissors with serrated self-sharpening design
Patented locking screwdriver
Cap lifter
Wire stripper
Can opener
Nail file
Nail cleaner
Phillips® head screwdriver
Reamer
Awl
Toothpick
Tweezers
Key ring

OP, I suggest you rename the title to say "70% off Wenger Swiss Army Knifes", because they are all 70% off. Great deal. I am buying 3 to get free shipping. These are genuine bargains.

Thanks for the tip. Long time lurker, finally joined the site to share this. Too good not to.

      • Very nice first post. Much cheaper than anywhere else.

  • Thanks tezam123. I bought a couple of different ones as well to make up to the free shipping. Christmas presents, resell on eBay or just keep for myself? Hmm, decisions decisions.

    • It's bad luck to gift knives, so I think you'll have to keep them for yourself. I mean everyone needs 3 blades and 3 can openers on their person.

      • Wife said the same. I told her it's not a knife, it's a tool. That explanation was acceptable :)

      • +1

The only thing worse than bad luck is superstition.

        • I don't think it's "bad luck" persee. I think it's a gesture with the meaning that you want to "cut ties". But with a swiss army knife, you can cut, chop and screw the relationship :)

    • I thought you can't sell these type of stuff on ebay?

  • +1

    Thanks OP, good find!

I also recommend using protection for the new knife.

Never seen the utility of these, especially at that price point. The badly thought out combinations of tools, and the inadequacy with which they perform, make these expensive toys.

    • I always have a SAK on me and use it daily. My favourite is the Victorinox Compact- mostly use the scissors (eg for threads, opening packets), knife (cut fruit, boxes), toothpick and tweezers (for unfortunate hairs). That was about $50 online, and it's one of the slightly pricier models. I also have a small Vic Manager on keychain which I use more for nail grooming.

I think SAKs are a rarity of value and quality in this disposable age. They're Swiss made, hand assembled, and there's lifetime warranty. My Vic Classic from 14 years ago is still sharp and functional as ever. Have heard of people writing to Victorinox about (rare) faults and they send spare parts, repair or swap it without any issues.

I have an old Victorinox with about 30 functions. Even if I were backpacking, I'd prefer to have a decent blade and light toiletries, and I'd still save money and weight without needing to compromise utility (try removing a piece of embedded metal from your foot with SAK tweezers). An opinel might set you back $7, but you could use if for more serious cutting tasks (splitting kindling, cutting and prying), and people have even put an edge on them which can shave hair.

Certainly there's no need to trim your nails or pluck a stray hair on the way to the office in the morning? Everything else you mentioned would be better achieved with a decent knife.

Your post is irrelevant, whether or not a Swiss army knife is useful is not up for debate here. For those that actually find a Swiss army knife useful, this was a good deal.

      • So what posts are relevant? I would think a post describing the utility of an item cuts to the heart of whether it is a good deal. In any case, how is it less relevant that comments to the effect of:

        3252900sl 15 hours 14 min ago
        "such utility"
        and
Putnum 13 hours 10 min ago
        "wow"

    • I think you can have too many tools on a SAK. Once you get beyond 3-4 layers it becomes unwieldy. The Compact is 2 layers which is really pocketable.

I've got a Opinel 8 (which wasn't $7…more like $25 locally). Love the design and it's a classic. It lives in my bag but I don't pull it out as much as the SAK, just because I use the non-knife tools a lot more. I mean in theory you could cut a coupon with a dedicated blade, but scissors just work better.

Really comes down to what uses you want from what you're carrying. For sturdiness and versatility I think a Leatherman type tool is great- also carried one for a while but it was too much for my daily needs (office job). Dedicated fixed blade knife for the outdoors, sure.

Plenty of love for the swiss army knifes , leathermans, and the like. I avoid buying them these days cause I always get caught with them at the airport. Had to surrender two this year, as i was late catching my flight and on board luggage closed.

  • Thought that I had secured 3 Christmas presents but apparantly not - my order from 7:30am was cancelled at 3pm.

    "Hi,

    Thanks for your order.

Unfortunately we have had a sell-out success of the Wenger product as part of our end of financial year sale.

As a result we are not completely out of stock, and with the brand having stop trading globally, we are unable to secure further stock.

Your order have been cancelled in our system. Depending upon your payment method your pre-authorisation upon placing the order may take a number of days to be release by the Merchant bank.

If you have further questions please don’t hesitate.

    Regards

    Dean"

    • The email says "we are not completely out of stock"

      • Yeah, I nowiced whaw as tell. I whink someone was going for a "t" and hit a "w" inswead.

  • Got the same email. Seems their website doesn't keep track of how many they have have sold in real time.

  • Same. I ordered within minutes of seeing this post. I think they simply chose to cancel the order due to a price error. I doubt anyone got their order.

Not the OP's fault, so won't revoke my '+', but this smells fishy. I think they simply chose to cancel unprofitable transactions.

  • OP, did your order get cancelled, since you must have been the first to get your order in?

    • Yes!! Ridiculous! I'm sending them a miffed email.

  • My order got cancelled as well

  • My order as well.

  • Yeah I got rolled too, ordered at 630am. Bummer :(

  • +2

Order revoked here although it was initially confirmed, order number etc. A return email from "thefrontier" to me alluded to a surprise "ozbargaining" event for the company, to the tune of 300+ orders for my line item. Well err, it's a serious online flaw to keep confirming orders, and debiting customers in the absence of a linked, real-time inventory. Add insult to injury, a promotional email from them quickly followed. Unsubscribed I now am, and uninterested in buying from them ever again…

    • ditto

    • totally agree!

  • Sorry guys. Super disappointing.

    • +1

Not your fault. Many deals on Ozbargain are based on price errors and mistakes by shop staff, so it's an occupational hazard that transactions get cancelled :)

    • mine was also cancelled yesterday but it's definitely not your fault mate!
highly appreciate the effort of sharing :)
