Agree. I was actually going to pay the original price of $116 for the 1 year subscription last week. You just saved me $44. Thanks

  • Is the gift card still available at Target?

    • Starts 12 Jun - Ends 18 Jun

Only two days. No clues of quantity available so would call Target first.

Free Skype Worldwide Calls to Mobiles and Landlines for a Month (VPN Required)

Any member successful with trial/dummy account*VPN registration can vouch for the quality/reliability?^

      • It depends on what country you are calling. Some are better than others. I've had really big hit and miss experiences calling Indonesian landlines but very minimal problems calling the USA and UK.

The VoIP provider I use now rarely has any problems at all and the quality is very very good. Skype is always good for a backup, but I just pay as I go for those times that I need it. This deal is good if you make a lot of calls to a country that lists landlines & mobiles though. +1

  • Anyone knows if these giftcards have an expiry date that you need to redeem them by?

    • +3

Card expires 12 months from the date of purchase.

  • Hmm havent really though about Skype for some time.
So let me see, with this and a premium subscription you could pretty much use this for $72 for all your calling needs both overseas and local, assuming you have solid data. Not bad at all.
Do you or can you get a regular style number for others to call you?

    • +1

No, getting a local number is extra. However, Skype premium customers get 50% off that rate. Can't remember the rate…check Skype website plz

  • This is epic. No time to pick up the card though…. exams!

  • ah yea couple things to confirm.

    1. verified successful placing of calls to Australian_mobiles;
Call landlines and mobiles in: Canada, China, Guam, Hong Kong SAR, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Thailand, United States. odysseus on 30/05/2014 - 19:09 ΒΆ - y / n ??

    2. A landline/mobile misses your call outgoing; what do they see displayed and how may they then call you back. IIRC there is no Direct Inward Dial/Local no. included for Skype.

Curious, If 1. is proven, then which Telco upped the ante to include outbound-to AU Mobile
    Cheers

    • +1
      1. Skype handles calls direct to Australian and overseas (NZ, anyway) mobiles and landlines without any issues - I've been using it as a replacement for my home landline for several years, after switching to naked broadband.

      2. If you set up your Australian mobile number within Skype, others will see that as your caller ID and call you back accordingly. I believe that you CAN have an Australian local number with a subscription - I haven't done that myself.

  • +1

It would seem that with some kind of data plan, say 1GB per month in your mobile could use this for all your phone needs with unlimited calls assuming you used Skype caller ID http://www.skype.com/en/features/caller-identification/ set up with you mobile number.
Guess that doesnt cover sms though.

    • Good thought, although I read Skype caller ID works outbound to prepaid mobiles, possibly only reliably with pre+post paid Optus .. so far at least.

The other non obvious exclusion besides SMS> this Unlimited fails to support 13, 1300 numbers. Other than for alternative (geographic)Nos, payg.skype might gotcha up to [$17/hour]

My net fone bill me $5 compare to an extortionate 80 which Microsoft seek ..for an actual $kype IN service :'(. It seem then a mix of solutions (workarounds), will unfortunately be in order.

All things considered, I am using prepaid a la Vodafone. Thus the 17 GB I span .. over 58 days; each[$32+/-] recharge incl. infinite txt .. I will hope synergize nicely, supporting:

         ((60% * 38.49) / 12) / 5 =
          $0.384 per hour calls.

ie. an ex-market 3G^850 service, Skype premium 5hrs included pm.

      • Prepaid Vodafone 17GB over 58 days for $32 with infinite text?
I must have missed that. It seems like a fabulous deal.

        • Yep Vodafone data favourite add on..removed a few months ago for all but pre-existing purchasers.

20%special x "$40 CAP" recharge less 5% PayWave rebate gives $30.40 cost for $750 of voda flexi credit. :P

From there 46*0.35gb packs are bought for an equiv =$0.66 ea on top of default 1GB; =17.1 GB total. - expiry extends 30 days out from latest purchase, so buy on day 28 & almost two months.

Like with a few competing cheap 6-10 GB offers in 2012-13, it wasn't long before this Telco took it out (for now).

        • "46*0.35gb packs are bought"
Wow that is Ozbargain dedication 46 packs!!
Still 17GB over 2months is great.
Wish I could get that kind of 3G value.

  • I asked the question on the other node about upcoming Target sale in general - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/147814

But perhaps someone reading here will know the answer.

I went to Target to pick up some Skype cards. At the checkout, the person would not allow me to pay with a Coles Group giftcard. Citing the reason that skype cards are gift cards, and no giftcards can be purchased with another giftcard. Is that true? Is this in the T&C? I went to target.com.au - browsed this week's catalogue but still could not find anything to that effect.

I can understand why buying a Coles Group gift card with another is not permitted, since this can be used to extend the expiry perpetually. But surely skype cards and coles group giftcards are completely different things. Comments, anyone?

    Thanks in advance.

    • from my memory, Coles gift card can only be used at Coles super market. Not Target and not K-mart.
But Wooly's Wish gift card can be used at both super market and Big W. (and Masters…)
—- just try to help, may not 100% right. —-

      • Thanks, you are right about the Coles card. But the card I am referring to is the Coles Group and Myer Gift Card, which can be used in a number of places, including Target.

    • yup, i've tried it using a coles myer gift card to try and purchase another gift card and they wouldn't let me - doesn't make sense

    • It's stated in the T&C that you cannot use it to purchase another gift card. It really comes down to whether the item you are purchasing is classified as a gift card or not. Note that the T&Cs don't explicitly list them. It seems to be up to the retailer, but most 'stored value cards' appear to be considered as gift cards by them.

In my case I tried to use a Coles Group and Myer gift card at Target to buy a (discounted) iTunes card, and they wouldn't let me for the same reason. Even had them check with management to confirm.

      • Thanks for this info.

No Philippines no good to me.

  • +1

Just remember, it's not easy to use up that much credit. I used to call at 2cents a minute with Google and $10 lasted me 3-4 months. Now with Skype, it's 1.6 cents a minute, but with the gift card discount, more like 1.2 cents. I would get this except I would never use it up, and I would still switch back to Google when they roll out Google Voice here - the Skype app is an intrusive data stealing pain in the ass (so is Google but they already have my data :D ).

    • That's right, the cheapest Skype Premium sub should cost <23.094> after 2X$15 [=$50] with 11.51 CR leftover; down to $1.92 a month, 300 minutes.

So, unless one will use up several hours pm, there isn't much point trebling the sub.

      • Well the next one down from unlimited ins 600 mins per month = ~20minutes per day and believe me, for my wife that would only be her warming up her tonsils for a chat.

        • Yea 600 mins month at effective 3.37 AUD should bring compelling stuff. Competitive with Vaya ($18 plan), but without risk of incurring excesses. Impressive given vaya itself packed about double the airtime than you'd buy direct..at again more dollars.
It does start with data, then getting whole family linked-up in VoIP :-].

  • can someone confirm that it includes Australian mobiles?? on their website this is the list for mobiles

    Available countries/regions
    Call landlines and mobiles in:

    Canada
    China
    Guam
    Hong Kong SAR
    Puerto Rico
    Singapore
    Thailand
    United States

Australia is in the landlines only category?

    • Well the link I looked at for premium def said "call land lines and mobiles" in Australia. Make sure you click through to the premium rates.
      http://www.skype.com/en/rates/

    • I took this subscription when the gift card was 50% off during christmas last year. It covers both mobiles and landlines within australia

  • +3

Tested user here. You can call anywhere in australia, in any number except 13 and 1300 ones. Works like a charm! :)

    • 1800 numbers as well?

      • +4

You don't need any plan or credit to call 1800 numbers on Skype. They're free.

  • Damn no Vietnam!

  • Can you get a registered local number with skype and use this for call forwarding within australia?

  • Am I the only one who thinks services like Rebel are still better. You can choose to either use a local number (use cap minutes) or Internet.

    • +1

I was using Rebtel before and they keep increasing the price. Rebtel can't beat this offer. It works out to $6 per month for unlimited calling. And the call quality is definitely better in Skype.

  • +3

I hv been using skype from a long time and definitely call quality is excellent. This is a great price for one year

  • This is rather off the topic but does anyone know how to make an SMS sent appear with a registered number ?

And is there some way to set up SIP with Skype so you dont need to use their client to dial ?

    • For sms, you can use one of the betamax providers.. I think they charge about 3 cents a msg.

I too am looking for a way to use Skype out with sip without getting their connect service. Is there a way?

  • It's not $72.00, it's $69.894 :)

    • +1

I don't think you can get a gift card for $116.xx. you'll need to get $120 gift card for this.

      • $ 3.51 credit will remain in your account

  • I've been using Skype premium for last couple of months. Besides cheap call rates, a few other wonderful features about their services I like are:

    • Skype to go: you will be given a dedicated permanent local land line number which you can call and then call then number you want (just like calling cards). That way, you can use the plan even if you don't have internet or from any land line. Your land line or mobile no will be registered so that you don't have to key in any pin no. However, you can set own pin number so that calls can be made from any phone

    • You can set your mobile number as outgoing caller ID for the skype account.

    • You can set international numbers as favourites and they will be given individual local land line numbers. Calling that number directly from any phone will connect you directly to that number

  • good deal, but i prefer a mobilevoip solution. That way I don't need to depend on data but can even call a local number to re-route to an international number

  • Anyone know the most economical way to use Skype with traditional phones?

Just like how VOIP providers supply the adapter for their service. Might ditch my VOIP and use Skype if I could call with normal phone.

  • Folks

Guess this will help member here to decide. I bought one early this year and I must admit it has been a flawless service. Great sound quality Australia/ India / UK and US (Mobile and Landline). I have my user id logged into wifes mobile, my mobile, 2 laptops and a ipad at home. Can use it on any device the catch is only one device at a time but most of the time it works for us.

Secondly we were overseas (NZ) last month and since every hotel provided wifi we had no international roaming charged to mobiles and still were connected with family and friends while overseas.

Like TPG / DODO / OPTUS and others you dont have to be home to make free phone calls. On the go as long as you have a strong 3G or 4G connection

Cons - Pray you dont have to deal with the call center any point in time. Its overseas but the folks are absolutely hopeless. They would never understand what your problem is and would read a script. SMS are ridiculously charged so be careful while typing a skype message.

Off to buying a gift card to stack it for next years subscription … Hope skype do not change their membership charges :-)

    • agreed except last sentence. I would wait for 50% off on Skype cards like last year

  • +1

You can get further $10 discount with AMEX credit back offer too :)
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/149045

  • Just went to target… there wasn't any $100 denominator. Only $25 an $10… Does the skype website accept 7 differnt gift cards for a single purchase?

if anybody can help would be great.

    • I'd like to know that too.
      But you would need 6 cards (4X25 + 2X10)

      • ya true… miscounted…

      • superm86

well after waiting… for so long with no response… just opened my old skype account. we need to first redeem the gift cards to skype credits and then pay with the skype credits.

        • So it can be used with multiple card, by first converting them to skype credits?
edit - saw the below reply! thanks!

    • +2

I had a chat with "Skype Support", here is what they say:
When you redeem them (Gift Cards), they will go to your Skype Credit Balance.
You can use that to make calls with your Skype or pay for a subscription

  • I was going to get this just a few days ago seen this deal on skype cards never thought anything of it with is a boost as can get the unlimited for less.
So what does these cards come in $100,$25 etc etc? So really I would need to only a few or several and I take to the amount of $120?
I take they dont sell smaller cards.
So if buying these it works out at $72 right? With the 40% off I hope my local target have some will this deal end today or after business day tomorrow.
Do they reserve cards over the phone to pick up would hate to drive there and find none left etc as horrible day today.
Annoying thing was last yr I used to have a subscription to one country and its all I needed was cheap and I had my own number skype to go thing.i more or less was able to call for free as had unlimited local numbers to call for them overseas meaning as my mobile sim was unlimited the calls was free.
I then stopped my mobile plan and then cancelled my skype to go and wanted to start back up again to find it was no longer available.
I do wonder if im still able to use this skype to go number I used to use and my contacts etc.
It was very usefull as was able to do this out and about.

    • tldr

      • So you have ADD and a short little span of attention?
        So what?
No need to be rude to people.

        • +1

          That's a fair call, KT.
What I meant to say, was that I read through most of it and got really confused. It said a lot, but I'm not sure what it was trying to say or ask - and it was also filled with a lot of redundant information/chatter, and life story. Plus, it was too long and muddled to read through thoroughly again.

I suppose, this too would have been rude, but the basis of my self-indulgent gripe would have been clearer.

        • You reveal yourself as a reasonable and considered person.
          Kudos.

  • Thanks OP purchased $125 worth of Skype cards for $75. Paid entirely using my $75 gift card from this promotion https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/140564.

It says on the Target receipt cards will be activated within 48 hours. Does anyone know how long the discounted premium subscription will continue for? Thanks.

    • +1

It's been there for months, so I would say it is a regular discount for buying a 12 month subscription.

  • +1

None left at Mt Gravatt, Springwood, Browns Plains, Buranda @ QLD

    • Thanks..Saved me a trip and unnecessary other shopping

      • lot of them at Toombul and Chermside at 7:00 pm on 17.06.2014

  • I use Betamax (now Dellmont), they have a bunch of sites like this http://www.nonoh.net/ with different tariffs

    See tariffs comparison:
    https://www.voipkredi.com/page.php?page=rates

They normally have dozens of destinations free and other with cheap rates. 10 euro will give you 120 days to free destinations and on top of that you can use these money to pay for non-free destinations.

I've been using them for 8 years now, works like a charm.

What is great is that you can connect two phones, let's say your mother's and sister's. Or your home and hotel. Very convenient!

  • if you bought the premium you can add skype number for 50% off. Premium must be purchased first to get this offer in your account. I just got it.

  • I already have a premium Skype account expires dec 2014,what does this deal do using gift cards?allows me to call overseas etc as mentioned above?
Or am I buying a premium account again?
When my premium account I already have does expire in dec 2014 after I buy and enter these Skype gift cards what will happen then?
Do I need to subscribe to premium account again and if so how much.
Let's say I got my premium account free last year through this site with a code.
I'm about to buy these gift cards and wondered if I am wasting my money?

    • you can extend your subsciption with these gift cards credit, i suppose.

  • Great deal but none of the countries I need to call are included :(

  • Can i share the account with my friend or family?

    • +1

Your account will be suspended.. Happened to me..

      • How would they know? my wife is overseas right now and was going to give her my details to log in to make calls to me etc and I can do the same when from here.

        • Perhaps if they detect simultaneous use from the same account from different countries! This is easily detectable from the IP. (Now I dont know for sure if skype actually checks for this, I am just going with rashed's experience). But I doubt they care if the account is used from one country at a time - this could simply be the account holder using skype while traveling. I have been using my account when traveling too - so far no issues.

  • Target,Greensborough Plaza, VIC.. Got many.. I bought 15x $25 today, for me, my gf, and my brother who lives in UK.

  • Plenty of stock at Target Forest Lake, QLD.

  • Good to see Mongolia on the list. It works well calling the city, but there's a big delay calling the countryside. It's probably normal. The Mrs is so happy with calling home for .56 cents a minute.

  • I wish they had more mobile support on the list. Useless for me. Who calls landlines these days :)

  • plenty in roselands.

    http://postimg.org/image/vl9oq6q17/

that was a bit of a process but now my old skype account is on unlimited & will be using it more often.

    thanks OP :)

  • plenty in tea tree plaza, SA.

Thanks OP for saving a lot for coming year, i use nearly $10 on voip every month.

  • "40% Skype Gift Card"

    60% Awesome?

  • Any cheap prepaid mobile with good data to use with this?

    • On the late-pattern of so-called 'competitive networks,' vodafone +optus. I'd be inclined to suggest telechoiceEncore as good old fashioned telstra. [$25]voucher buy like 1100MB.

  • My one country unlimited subscription expires at the end of July. It looks like the one country options no longer exist and the premium subscription is the only option. Is the premium subscription price likely to remain the same to the end of next month? I don't want to buy the premium subscription until my existing one runs out.

    • Should be same I guess - or would be increased a bit, you have $3 margin currently as you would have gift card of $120, and cost is $117
so you should be alright getting it I guess.

What was the rate on single country unlimited like?

      • I was calling NZ and for landlines only it was $81.34 for an annual subscription.

  • Geelong has lots of $25 and $10 nominations.

I have bought $125 ($73) but cannot use it.

I registered my account in the UK before I moved here, now when I go to premium, it's asking for UK money, even though I have changed the country and everything else to be Australia.

    Damn it.

    • Create a new account.. :)

      • Was thinking about it, but already have my contacts.

        I'll see what support says.

        • I think you can change the currency option too.

Login to skype on webpage (not app) and goto My Account. There you should be able to see the change currency option.

Alternatively, login to skype on website and navigate to the page below:
          https://secure.skype.com/wallet/account/currency

          Hope this helps.

        • +1

          Thanks, just done that.

Should be fine, need to load the vouchers and test it out.

Wonder if this will work when I move back to UK. Thanks very much.

    • It is best to change the currency when you have very little credits left - since the conversion rate is not that favorable.

      • What's the best option you recommend? Change over to AUD, then load the AUD cards, then swap back to GBP once the premium subscription has been added?

        :)

        thanks

        • Sure, change to AUD (I am assuming you dont have massive credits at the moment), then load the cards. You can leave it at AUD until next time you have GBP cards to load. Try to minimise the changing of currency, as each time you do, you lose out on the conversion.

        • Why do you want to change to GBP? I think change back GBP only when required or when you move back.

        • To get a UK number too, do business in the UK, so want a UK presence too. the VOIP platforms I normally use are having issues with Australia registering the SIP devices, so this will do for now.

Vouchers added, all ok. Just waiting for confirmation from Skype that the premium service has been added to the account.

          Thanks,

          G.

          :)

  • +3

    Thanks heaps OP!

I finally took the plunge the last night but then noticed in comments that the deal was expiring EOB yesterday.

Drove down to the local Target and stepped in 9:55pm (they close at 10!) and got the last available gift cards, and you won't believe what was left - 4x$25 and 2x$10, which is just the 120 i needed. looks like the deal was waiting for me. Thanks OP and OzB :)

oops, missed it, any other skype deals

  • Premium package does not include India. I just checked in their website.
