      Maybe not a great brand…

909 18 Volt cordless drill came dead-last in this month's Choice mag tests. Very poor torque and non-descript battery life.

  • It has 'clearance' written across it but price is still as it was, $99 for me.

Any garden gurus have any thoughts on this https://www.masters.com.au/product/100938936/909-33cc-keysta…

I got some mean trees need pruning.

    • any thoughts on this

I got a similar one from ebay and it was crap… Almost impossible to get it started. Eventually got a refund via paypal dispute.
At lease with Masters, you can easily return it to the store if you have problems…

It shows up as $49 for Upper Coomera though… So it's not even state wide in QLD.

I've got the Ryobi 18v chainsaw, and its uses are fairly limited.
Not really powerful or fast enough to go through sizeable branches, and it clogs up too easily when cutting smaller growth.
Can still do the job for what I need, but wish I bought a petrol powered zombie tamer instead.

    • I bought the ryobi 18v as well and been happy enough with it. With patience it has got through everything I have thrown at it and love not having to maintain the thing. I may need to upgrade to a petrol chainsaw sometime but this little one will always come in handy.

      • I have it too, and the chain is just too slow so it takes ages to cut through stuff. Then I bought the one+ pole pruner and its way better than the chainsaw ever was.

  • Just a heads up about this product. Purchased one about a year ago. It leaks chain oil from the reservoir, it drips out quite fast actually. If left for a period of time say a month don't be surprised if there is no oil left in there. I contacted them about it and it's a known issue with them. Although the rep tried to pretend like it wasn't. Also the battery is VERY bad. I have only used mine about 10 times and already the battery is so weak I can not use it for 3 minutes without needing to charge it, completely useless product if you ask me.

I've owned 3 different chainsaws and they've all leaked oil… It's probably normal.

Guys, Masters is quite misleading on their advertisement on this item. The 18V version is no longer on sale but instead been replaced by the 20V version and the 20V version is selling for $99. You won't be able to find the 18V anymore but just maybe the display unit. I saw this bargain on Masters website a few months ago, went to the store (Chullora, NSW) and found the only 18V unit is the one on display.

Regarding the 18V Ryobi, I've tested it on ~10cm logs, it does cut but would require patience. Might be a good, compact unit for camping. A better unit would be the 36V Ryobi but it's currently going for around ~$360-$400 for battery+charger+chainsaw at Bunnings. Probably better off buying a petrol/electric saw for much less. Anyone who is going to the US might want to pickup this Ryobi 40V chainsaw http://www.homedepot.com/p/Ryobi-12-in-40-Volt-Lithium-ion-C… for US $169. If you do, don't forget to pickup a 240-110V step down tranformer from ebay to charge the US chainsaw.

The leaking oil … I deal with it by emptying the reservoir when finished and place the chainsaw on top of a stack of newspaper (just in case). I would put some oil in just before use.

    • Li-Ion cells are 3.6 or 3.7V nominal, so 5-cell is 18V, but over 20V when fully charged and unloaded.

It may be a different model, but 18V is the same as 20V. It is a marketing change, not an engineering one.
