What about Belkins extremely strong warranty?
Edit: This Ebay listing claims "Offering 4720 Joules, against 123,000 Amps Maximum Spike Current".
No idea about Belkin's warranty; every surge protector manufacturer and their grandmother today offer a $200,000-$500,000 dollar connected equipment warranty, but being able to quickly and easily claim on that is entirely another thing.
Look at the conditions of the Connected Equipment Warranty in the PDF I linked. Not exactly an open-and-shut case.
Belkin had a strong track record of honouring the warranty on both the board itself and connected equipment, based on reports on Whirlpool from people who'd claimed. At the same time, one could read articles claiming these warranties weren't worth the paper they were written on, but that was based on interpreting the terms rather than real-world experience. The difference between Belkin and the rest was that there was a decent amount of feedback re the warranty, while the others were a mystery.
That was back when you'd typically pay $100-200+ for such a board - the price decline in recent years has me doubting whether they'll be as easy-going.

Newsman in "SONY TiVo SVR-2000"
I got a Belkin surge protector with phone line
protection soley for Tivo purposes.
Yet my Tivo's modem still failed. And the
'$20,000 connected devices warranty' did not help
me. I jumped through many hoops, including finding
the original recept for the surge protector (just
under a year old) and I sent my surge protector to
Belkin (paid for shipping), and was denied my
warranty. … Eventually it boiled down to a line
in the warranty that said "Belkin at it's sole
discretion can reject any claim for any reason".

I had it plugged into a Belkin Surge Protector.
They have a connected equipment guarentee. I put
in the claim and was told that it only covered
equipment for power surges as the products
wasn't designed to protect from other power
malfunctions.
Different Belkin warranties have different exemptions. Its warranty will only replace the protector. It might replace some minor appliances. And will never cover the full cost of an appliance damaged because someone was using a Belkin protector.
If your protection solution does not clearly define where hundreds of thousands of joules harmlessly dissipate, then that solution is probably an obscenely profitable half truth. Well proven solution mean even direct lightning strikes without damage to any household appliance.
No, it is not 100% effective. IEEE Standard even provides numbers for how effective: 99.5% to 99.9% protection. A plug-in protector (ie layering) may add another 0.2% protection. But only if used in conjunction with the well proven 'whole house' solution. Advertising and hearsay forget to provide these numbers. And forget to mention a long list of exemptions in that warranty.
I would have to second that comment. I bought one because it was 'on sale' as part of a group buy for about $70 and thought I got a bargain. When it arrived and the 'massive discount' high had worn off I realised that I'd probably wasted ~$50 odd dollars on this thing. It claims to have (quoting from the instruction manual):
When AC power travels from the wall socket and throughout each successive pair of receptacle banks, each power filter or “graduating filtration” level increases the isolation, filtration, and protection for your most sensitive devices. The higher receptacle banks (farthest from the power switch) will provide a greater amount of surge and line-noise protection than the first receptacle bank or the bank labeled “High Current Filter”. The “High Current Filter” is designed to deliver the maximum current with the minimal filtration required by amplifiers and powered subwoofers.
So yeah, the 'Monster Cable' is strong in this one.
I've yet to try out its power protection ability (that and I don't have a lightning rod to hook up to my surge protector) so I can't comment on its ability to protect against lightning, but I think the surge protector built into my house should do a sufficent enough job of that anyway.
It's expensive, it's probably a waste of money, but if you like your placebo effects, go buy one.
The one pictured is one of the ones from Belkin which still offers unlimited warranty.
Most new belkin ones only offer limited warranty.
I've got one of these. The original one failed after a couple of years, got it replaced under warranty (bought it from a authorised retailer), works fine, but occasionally, like the DSE powerboards, the on/off switch will trip the safety switch.
In regards to futuonline, it doesn't appear to have a strong net presence, so i doubt its an authorised retailer, so warranty and claims may possibly not be honoured.
I have this one, got it around 5 years ago for $50 at a retailer that was closing down and don't regret it at all. It's an older model but was top of the range at the time, selling for around $300 (then). For those googling around the model number is F9G823AU3M. As mentioned above, Belkin is pretty good with their connected equipment warranties - see whingepool. One of my rels got their Bravia, PS3 and Mac Mini replaced when their cheaper grey/black Belkin power board could not save em from a spike/surge.
Tells me it's AU $79.00 ?
Now it's saying $65.00
looking for a good 8 or even 10 surge outlet board don't need audio or phone/ newtork etc just power protection. Spaced to fit a few fat plugs… any recommendations?
Belkin make good Surge Boards, I have the Belkin PureAV ones but they are a dark grey.
Comes back as $79 in the link. No deal.
I too own this surge protector and have recommended it over and over again for years. Still using the one I bought about 7 years ago and have looked online for one a few times since.
Here's a good link with a better description and the original box it came in.
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BELKIN-PureAV-8-Way-Isolator-Powe…
EDIT: Link is the same as the one above.
It's not just a surge it's also got a built in power filter which is a major reason for my purchse.a power conditioner. Back in the days, it was instrumental in removing the 'hummmmmmm' of a bad ground when transferring VHS tapes and the like. I recommended it to a friend on a boxing torrent site because his transfers from VHS to AVI had that annoying bad ground hum.
From that day forward, his old VHS caps were hum free.
I payed about 120 bucks from digitalyes.com.au back in the day. At the time I was working for WOW Sight and Sound and got it cheaper than I could on staff pricing from the store. It should come with a lifetime warranty just as mine did however (comma) as it has been pointed out I don't know if this is an authorized dealer so tread carefully.
There's absolutely no specs available about this surge protector (amperage, joules, response time, etc.), even in the user manual on Belkin's website.
Gives me a Monster Cable vibe. Lots of vague, fancy-sounding buzzwords ("Power Filter Technology", "PureAV Isolator") and a heavy emphasis on flashy looks but internally, I'm betting it's got nothing substantively different from your run-of-the-mil $20 surge protector at Bunnings (5-cent MOVs and 20-cent capacitors).
