  • Sounds like a bargain to me!

I'm guessing they'll be queuing up for these babies.

  • See you there! :P

  • Baaaaahhhhhh, anyone wanna get me one?

  • Just wondering if the hard drive is PATA or SATA ?

    • As far as I'm aware, there are no Green Power PATA drives. So SATA.

      • Thanks for the reply. Anyone knows the price of PCI or PCI-X controller card for this hard drive ? My computer is an old computer (more than 5 years old), so no PCI-Express port available or SATA port.

        • +1

You have PCI-X but not PCI? PCI-X is a server/workstation plug, that while technically came before PCI-E x1, isn't at all common.

You can get an el cheapo PCI SATA card from MSY for $19.

          • @[Deactivated]: I have both PCI and PCI-X which I believe PCI-X is faster than PCI. Thanks again for your info. Hmm, I checked the Ebay and there is a PCI SATA controller (3 SATA + 1 IDE) for only $5 + $7 postage which will be cheaper.

            • @yht: Are you sure you have PCI-X? It really was only in server hardware. Many people confuse non-graphics PCI-E slots with PCI-X.

              • @[Deactivated]: Definitely, I have a Dell workstation Precision 650.

                • @yht: Awesome.

You're the first person I've run into that says they have PCI-X and really does! That's something like the first out of about 30!

                  • @[Deactivated]: Well, consider myself as lucky to have the system whilst it is hard to find a PCI-X card ?

                    • @yht: Well, it's sort of a failed technology.

It took far too long to get the PCI-X cards out after PCI-X slots were common, and then only the really expensive ones were available, and now most server/workstations use PCI-E.

Think of it as the RDRAM of the expansion card world.

  • Any chance You can open the doors @ 9am when im in Osborne Park??? Pweaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase :(

  • This would be a nightmare at the Osborne Park store as there isn't much parking space.
Perhaps it would be a better idea to get people to request them (first in best dressed via email, etc.) … put them aside and if not claimed sell the remaining ones to whoever was next in the list (if not picked up by midweek then sell to first instore customers on Wednesday)

    • Good idea in principle, however the administrative overhead/headache to deal with it will far outweighs the benefits.

      • I disagree, making things easier for your customers should be important even for clearance sales (for repeat business)
Don't want another COTD effort … wasting peoples time (if you happen to be the 51st person)

        • +2

True, but it isn't practical. Netplus is predominantly a brick & mortar type business. Lets see this from a different perspective, if Myer was having a sale and they had to keep a spreadsheet for EVERY sale item, hoping to "making things easier for your customers" for the purpose of retaining them, how sucessful is that going to be?

Also, in a computer related business, most bargain hunters will usually go to where the 'bargain' is. So customer retention is a moot point in this instance. If tomorrow HT decides to have $50 hdd, where do you think the customers will end up?

  • +1

Great deal. Might see some of you guys there - you wont be able to see me though

  • +1

It seems like there will be 15 units allocated to the Myaree store, and thus leaving 35 units for the Ossie Park store.

    • How do you know this ?

      • +3

Well, by using a certain mathematical equation such as where the stores are geographically located and the demographics of the buyers, that is how the figures were derived.

..Oh and also the fact that the numbers were posted by Net+ on another forum may have helped too :)

  • Bloody good deal.. too bad it's only in Perth.

    • +1

Could this be the first ever benefit of living in Perth? :) I don't need any hdd's so will give this one a miss but +1 to netplus anyway, I buy most of my stuff there now never a hassle and you can get in and out with your goods quickly.

  • Whats the bet council parking inspector will be out in full force that morning… seriously painful parking at O/Park… If only they had a drive through… hint hint

  • +1

Top deal. I'm in the wrong state but a big +1 for this deal.

  • what's the model number or specific specs of this HD?

    • Well, it's between the WD7500AACS (16MB cache) and WD7500AADS (32MB cache).

      Either way, exceptional value.

But I'm going to assume the WD7500AACS.

  • I'm going to be lining up at 8:30am and bringing a couple of friends. Anyone else going early to beat the rush. I was thinking of maybe bringing a hackey sack to kill time, feel free to join in guys. See you soon fellas. Great bargain BTW.

    • 8:30am!!!
Wow, that'd be like 6:30am seeing that it's Perth right??? LOL

  • The price is a bargain, but it requires you to fight it out with other buyers in the bitter cold morning.

  • Wonder how many people will be going. Wonder if it is worth driving 30km there and 30km back on a saturday morning (when I should be sleeping)and coming home empty handed

  • smokeandmirrors maybe you could start the first ozbargainers road trip blog? :P

Not sure what you would call it though

    • Great. OK ill go :( there had better be one left for me or i wont be happy
How will we know if we are from ozbargain?
should we all wear orange for ozbargain?? :)

    • +2

      Call it "The Hard Drive"

      [yes I am that awesome]

      • +1

        • Great title. Maybe we can make it into a movie :)

      • lol. Brilliant!!!

        • Yeah, and after the Hard Drive, you have to Parallel park before you can get some Cereal In-t'yer-face
But then if you need to use public transport, you have to make sure you use the correct Bus
          \_/7

          • @TeaEarlGreyHot: My head just exploded.

          • @TeaEarlGreyHot: I think his Hard Drive just crashed …

            • +4

@agoodtip: If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port, and the bus is interrupted at a very last resort, and the access of the memory makes your floppy disk abort, then the socket packet pocket has an error to report.

              • @SmokeandMirrors: According to Dr Seuss at least…
…If your cursor finds a menu item followed by a dash,
and the doubleclicking icon puts your window in the trash,
and your data is corrupted cause the index doesn't hash,
then your situation's hopeless and your system's gonna crash!
If the label on the cable on the table at your house,
says the network is connected to the button on your mouse,
but your packets want to tunnel to another protocol,
that's repeatedly rejected by the printer down the hall,
and your screen is all distorted by the side effects of gauss,
                so your icons in the window are as wavy as a souse;
then you may as well reboot and go out with a bang,
'cuz as sure as I'm a poet,
                the sucker's gonna hang!
When the copy of your floppy's getting sloppy in the disk,
and the macro code instruction's causing an unnecessary risk,
then you'll have to flash the memory and you'll want to RAM your ROM,
and then turn off the computer and be sure to tell your Mom!

                \_/7

  • Don't forget to take your sweaters and beanies kiddies :) .. its cold in Perth

almost as bad as Tassie ;P

  • What's the difference between this and the WD Caviar Green or are they the same?

  • Well, I got mine today! Didn't need to get there so early either, ahh well.

    Did anyone miss out?

  • I got mine too. I saw some people missed out as they turned up late.

    • Late being what time? And what time did you arrive?

  • I turned up to Myaree at 9:55, long Q there.
All gone before they let anyone in.
(Handed out tickets to the first people in the line before they went in).
The rest of us in the line just wandered back to our cars to wait for the next bargain to appear.

  • "Handed out tickets to the first people in the line before they went in", that's a good way to do it.

  • +1

I was happily asleep @ 10am. Ain't worth lining up @ Myaree to get one of the 15 HDDs, especially when that is the only day I get to sleep in. Congrats to those that got it :) Heard that some ppl actually brought their kids along hoping to get a 'few extra'. I applaud you for trying to grab a bargain, however shame on you for trying to exploit the system and not giving others a chance! :)

  • I got one at Os Park. They seemed to have a lot more than they said. I am guessing there was about 40 odd people there and they seemed to have a few boxes of HD's. Anyone miss out at Os Park ?

  • We got there about 840. My hangover was epic, but I still think it was totally worth it. There was at about ~10-15x in a box I think, there was one box behind the main counter when we got ours [one of the 1st]. When we were let in, I counted about 30 people.

  • I got there at about 9.45. There were 2 lines at the osbourne park store. I really dont know why that was the case. It was pretty exciting as i didnt know if i was going to get one. Well luckily i did end up getting one. Another thing I noticed was that the people serving werent happy at all. It looked like that they didnt want to be there. I left the store at about 10.15 and there were about 20 people still lining outside. I think some guy who was there to buy something else saw that everyone was getting hard drives and he got himself one as well.

Well no one came and said hi to me :(
I did speak with a couple of nice ladies though and i did get a few smiles. But i get that anyway ;)
Well done for everyone who got a HD.
Hope all you guys have a great weekend

  • got one :) all happy :)

  • +1

Anyone check the warranty for the hard drive ? I just check at WD website and put in my Serial number, and instead of 3 years warranty (ie. up to somewhere mid 2012), I only got 2 years. Anybody else have the same ?

  • +1

Have not checked but 1 thing I noticed with mine is it had a OS on it …looked like a demo OS. Anyone else had a used HD ?

    • Ouch!
Anyone from NetPlus care to comment?

      • +1

They all should be brand new. However, there is always a very remote chance that a drive may have been used for testing or had come from supplier tested. This is a very very rare occurance. If you bought one that was not new to your satisfaction, please return it to us for a refund.

  • How it can be ? When you bought it, do you still have it in the sealed plastic ? I haven't installed mine yet, so I don't know if it had OS or not. No wonder they sell it cheap. Probably ex display or even ex repair.
