  • I dont see this model (RM10) being sold by other australian store or US stores?
Any one knows if this is a good bargain or brand?
I am just looking to hook up my divx movies in my external hard drive on to my 32 inch tv and i thought 89$ is good. I am new to media players.

    • Yes it will work.

  • can the firmware be updated?

    • I wouldn't count on it.
The company website hasn't been updated in 1 year.

  • If I must have one, I would probably go for the Noontec Moviedock A6 or V8 (HDD)which supports HD video encoding and other popular codecs which aren't supported on this model eg. H264 and MKV.

  • I don't see this as a 'bargain'. vennmann, this may sound harsh, but it appears you have posted something in your price range and are looking for opinions to whether it is a good price.
I think a 'bargain' for something of this nature would be at sub $50 range. Various DVD players have USB inputs that can play Xvid/divx from Ext HD. They cost below A$50 and you can get em from BigDub, Kmart, etc
Devices such as the one you mention can be routinely had for US$35-US$50 from places like dealextreme, eg: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.15127

This post would be better placed in the forums.

    • I think this is not bad. Considering it has HDMI output. One with HDMI output in dealextreme cost more.

    • I'm a bit wary of DealExtreme.

I bought a USB 2.0 multicard reader from them which turned out to be USB 1.0 speeds :(

I've since gotten a USB 2.0 multicard reader and can confirm the problem was definitely with the reader DealExtreme sold me.

Though the "earth" magnets they sent me, are very nice.

  • It's listed as a 'Special Discounted Price' so how 'Special' is it? Where is the $savings if they don't list the normal price?

  • Hey anybody know a hardware device that can play ripped DVDs from external hard drive, and understands things like DTS / Dolby Digital etc? If it can upscale even better? If it could play ripped bluray even better again :) Anyone?

    • it's called 'HTPC'.

  • very good spec for that price

  • How can you tell if a media player will play an AVI with AC3 audio through the USB if it doesn't actually say AC3 in the specs? Is it by having an optical audio out jack?
