  • 2-Stroke or 4-Stroke ?

    • The advert in the current catalog says it's a 4 stroke.

  • Is it possible to use this SAVE25 code with other item?
    Eg:

Hitachi Bent Shaft Petrol Grass Trimmer & Blower Combo

    $198.00Save $131.00

    • Yes.

    • save25 does not work……

      • It will if you link an EDR card first.

      • And if you've already used it, sign up another Masters acct!

  • I see an oil dip stick in the product image. So it should be 4-stroke.

  • Is this a good mower?

    • Honda engine, big tick.

    • I just went by Customer reviews. Seems to be good..

  • +1

Honda engine but it seems to be one of those safety shut off bars which are a big pain. The throttle and other assemblies look pretty junky on the picture. The wheels protrude so will get scratched to hell on your fence. Is it bar blade or swing back? If it has 4 swing back blades it might be worth a look. If its bar blade forget it, it will butcher your grass.

I dont really know what to appeal of the honda engines are, now that they are made in china there fails to see much of a point. The B&S engines outlast religion and you cant break the if you try. The best good thing about honda is you can fit a fuel filter to them, in the B&S the carb is mounted direct to the tank and every ten years or so you need a clean out and a new diaphram ($5). But in some ways its good because you dont have fuel hoses which will break off and perish every ten years anyway.

The hondas seem to use less fuel and make more power per CC. Thats an advantage. But be mindful I dont think you can abuse them as much as a B&S service-wise.

  • Its a shame really. bar blades are the devil! costs you torque (less reciprocal mass) so you conk out more in heavy grass. after 3 mows they go blunt and start butchering grass like a slasher. You can take them off every 6 months and sharpen them and balance them. But its a bit of effort without an impact driver or gun to the blade off the boss. My last 2 mowers I have bought were bunnings clearance jobs with bar blades and I know I guy who runs a mower shop who converted them for me. Its not really worth it $100 in parts alone, you may as well just buy a decent 4 blader to start off with.

The last mower I bought was a makita mulcher with a 500series B&S from a bunning caparok sale for $80 and it cost about $100 in parts to convert. Its went ok with the bar blade for the first couple of mows then it turned into a rubbish cut. After conversion it was magic though.

  • Bunnings sell 36V battery lawn mowers cheaper than this.
Battery charging far cheaper than petrol and oil over life of product.
Less parts to go wrong and less servicing costs.
    Zero local pollutants.
Zero CO2 when battery charged from solar, wind, biomass, etc
    Much quieter

I know what you're trying to get at… But 99% of Australia loves burning fossil fuels! And I'm sure there was a bit of CO2 produced when they built those turbines, not to mention the copious amount of CO2 that the Chinese factory pumped into the atmosphere when manufacturing the solar panels!!!

      • LOL you just have to throw in a bit of a China bashing? OT but the ME folks who love their money and oil also building their next big toy which is the exact thing you describe… GIGANTIC SOLAR FARMS!
