Mecca 3D - A Journey to Islam Google Play FREE* Normally $5.50

1230

The app uses virtual reality technology to enable the user to visit the important sites of Islam and experience the major events in Islamic history. You can tour the Kabba, the most sacred spot in Islam, and learn about its architectural features, or experience firsthand the famous battles won by Mohammed in the seventh century, all in 3D. The app is also designed to hook up with Oculus Rift’s virtual reality goggles, which will afford non-Muslims as close to a real Kabba-circumambulation experience as they’re ever likely to get. (The holy sites of Mecca are off-limits to non-adherents.)

Brainseed Factory, a group of software and game developers led by Bilal Chbiba, a Syrian living in Germany, developed Mecca 3D. The app’s target audience is the millennial generation, who are less likely to connect to Islam through traditional means like books and storytelling.

According to Chbiba, Mecca 3D is “a powerful and immersive instrument to teach everyone who is interested knowledge about Islam. This includes Islamic personalities, events and locations.” Chbiba’s app isn’t the first to attempt to render a virtual hajj, but it is the most comprehensive in scope.

No offense taken… either way a free app with the subject matter being religious (Muslim in this case) doesn't warrant criticism of the religion (any) that its based on. Either dl the app and see what its about and comment whether its of use or if not interested move on to the next bargain… no diff to any other deal that is on ozbargains … in the end its about the product on offer and whether its of value to some.

      • +3

you are right, its time we moved on and focused on the deal. But then its the top bargain for the day. that's the good news

    • "Never criticise Muslims. Only Christians. And Jews, a little bit"

I disagree with his order there. If I were subject to the scrutiny of publicity, I would certainly think my chances of a PR nightmare/character assassination would be far less if I was criticising Muslims rather than Jews; Anti-Semite/Holocaust Denier/Neo-Nazi et al are far more loaded and discrediting labels than anything Muslims and Muslim advocacy groups could throw at you, even in a strongly forced-multiculturalist society like Australia.

  • -6

    freeware, no deal.

  • +7

Thanks not religious but will be interesting to see the architecture.

  • +13

Thanks for the post OP. It is just me or does anyone else see recommendations for similar apps "A-plane flight simulator 3D" on the page?

  • +5

    looks like super mario 64

    • +20

I'd say "Super Muslim 64!" but the way these comments are going I'm just worried I'll end up with -9.

  • -2

Listen were all tightasses that's why were here as soon as Islam comes up all the inbreds get happy shut up and move to next deal no one thinks your big

    • +7

here as soon as Islam comes up all the inbreds get happy

inbreds? That is highly ironic, given the degree of in-breeding in Mecca and Saudi Arabia generally.

      http://www.nytimes.com/2003/05/01/world/saudi-arabia-awakes-…

      • -2

It seems that inbreeding is as normal there as its normal here to have a beer and a smoke with your underage kid

    • *you're
Learn your basic grammar before calling others inbred.

      • +2

No he's right. He wants to have a beer and a smoke with his underage kid.

Learn to read before you criticise ;-)

        • I think you replied to the wrong person.

        • Yes you are right!!! I thought you were commenting on abukees' post

        • -1

haha, blame it to others, lose the trace

  • +11

I am interestingly to know the inside of Mecca especially the architectural of the building itself. Nice find OP. Its good to have these kind of apps for any other famous or religious building around the world as well.

  • +1

    This post is funny :p

    • Not really, as a muslim it's quite upsetting to see people so intolerant to islam.

      • +4

        Sorry, i find everything funny…
A smile a day, maybe keeps the doctor away? :p

        • +1

If only that was the answer to all world problems !

          :)

      • +6

It's not only being intolerant to islam, most comments are being intolerant to any religion. And intolerance to religion is a good thing!

  • +19

Looking at the changelog here, this app was only ever paid for a few days. This is freeware, not a bargain. http://www.appbrain.com/app/mecca-3d-a-journey-to-islam/com.…

Also Android apps can't go from free to paid, so it isn't a sale either.

  • +3

Should've just collapsed the entire post

  • +6

Why are mods removing all the negs? I think we have a right to neg a deal if we don't think it is a bargain…isn't that the point of a voting system?

  • +6

This is actually really useful for Studies of Religion Students that are I believe are doing Islam. Great app, and good post, but people should keep their foul comments to themselves. Thanks OP.

  • +9

As previously pointed out, android apps cant go from free to paid, so the limited off seems redundant.

Sounds like a targetted deal "apps & games for the Muslim Community".

Not to mention the graphics look like they belong on the N64, no deal for me.

    • +1

Further to that, how does the muslim community feel about none muslims being able to view their exclusive holy site? Surely they wouldnt be supportive of this app?

  • -3

I like learning , but for the most part religions(specifically Creationist religions) disturb me greatly. All the barbarism. Rape. Pedophilia. Slavery. Racism. Sexism. I mean they all have such roots in this religion and many others.

    It makes my blood boil.

It's a matter of principle, really.

  • +5

Not a bargain, should be in the forum.
    See: http://mecca3d.net/#support-now-2

    1. Click the + in front of the "Download our Mecca 3D App for your Android Phone or Tablet here" and it states it's free. Side note, the IOs version is listed for Euro 1.79 (AUD 2.49).
    2. Their FB page https://www.facebook.com/Mecca3d makes no reference of it.
  • -4

its funny how the deal reached the front page, and people still trying to -ve it.
its easy, if you didnt like the deal just click on Hide deals from store Mecca3d.net
you waste your on time by commenting and trying to -ve the deal.

as any other deal like it take it. dont like it leave it.

  • +7

Not a bad app. Interesting for a few minutes to virtually tour a site, that I, as a non-believer, will never be allowed to see in real life. The app's movement controls are a little awkward, and the back button to exit does not work. Also some audio explaining what I was looking at would have been helpful - e.g. the rocks at either end of the interior, I assume they have some religious significance, but no idea what it was. 3 out of 5 stars, would upgrade to 5 stars if these niggles could be fixed. Would equally welcome equivalent Buddhist / Jewish / Christian / Hindu / etc apps for virtual tours of significant religious sites.

    • +1

Jedi-ism has a whole movie series with lots of vr…

    • Actually from the app photos it looks like the pillars with the buttons will give information about what you're looking at. I tried several times to press one of those buttons though, and nothing happened. So +1 for including site information, but -1 for the controls being even worse than I thought, so still rated as 3 out of 5.

  • +14

I must say, it is quite embarrassing to see how ignorant our OzB community can really be. The plethora of unpublished comments wow…

    • +1

I just want to point something out. There's 2 sides to the ignorance coin:

      (1) Non-muslims thinking that muslims = terrorist, which is WRONG.
      - Islam is the religion (ideology) and separate from the individual (whom can be good/bad)

      (2) Muslims thinking that non-muslims should agree with Islamic values, which is WRONG.
      - Just like muslims disagree with other cultural values and have different views, it should also be accepted that OTHER cultures will have different values to Islamic values.
      - Just like muslims freely express their disagreements for other cultures' values, reciprocation should be expected/accepted. It is NOT bigotry just because there is another view otherwise it's PC gone awry.

      • +1

Let me fix Point 2 for you:

        (2) <Group of people> thinking that non-<Group of people> should agree with <Group of people> values, which is <Subject to Opinion>.

        • IMO, I don't think it is <subject to opinion>. It's binary.

As with (1), if your placeholders apply, <group A> thinking that <group B> = C which is <subject to opinion>, if we're retaining consistency. Some person could claim that "C" (terrorist) is an absolute "right", which is inaccurate.

Some situations are EITHER right OR wrong, with exceptions.

However, adopting (a) religion because you relate to its ideologies IS subject to one's opinion. That's the point I wanted to express: religion is relative and there are many (relative) perspectives.

  • +9

a lot of narrow/close minded folks here.

    • +7

maybe this site should be renamed BoganBargain!

      • +9

        Ozbogan

        • +1

Hope no one thought that last comment was bogaphobic

        • hahahahaha i'm on godaddy registering that domain as we speak!! brilliant!

    • lol unfortunately we internet-ians all think we are very humorous and that our witty comments should have no bounds…. don't think majority are narrow minded just to eager to make fun… :)

    • +4

I cannot help but point out the irony of your comment assuming you are supporting various religions: most religions through out ages have had a narrow/closed minded view and are not accepting or open to other beliefs both in their text and practice, the worst belief being no belief at all!

I stopped believing in Santa at an early age once I realised the logistics of it did not make sense; pitty all of these narrow minded people cannot see how evolution works or that the three main religions pretty much all worship the same guy, just have different names and clothing choices for him.

      • The religions differ in slightly more ways than just 'different names and clothing choices for him'.

But yeah, I agree with you, I stopped believing at the old age of 10. I just didn't see how it was possible for Jebus to do all the magic tricks, water into wine, healing blind people and lepers, rising from the dead, let alone all the nonsense about parting the red sea, talking snakes, Adam & Eve etc.

  • +1

I thought this was a tour of Mcdonalds

  • You're telling me the comments about Islam on an Australian website aren't very good? I am shocked.

  • +2

If you really want to see Islam's holiest site for research or documentation purposes, there are a bazillion YouTube videos that'd be far more useful to you than this crudely-rendered depiction.

This VICE mini-documentary is a fairly brief, yet comprehensive overview of the entire Hajj pilgrimage, shot in first-person. And moreover the guy that's filming it, while being Muslim, is non-Arab, American-born and raised and fairly secular, so it has the distinct feel of a fish out of water so to speak, and connects more easily with non-Muslim viewers who don't have a familiarity with all of the religious rites.

  • -2

The thing I have noticed about this post is that some of the biggest sh*t stirrers who post regularly and don't seem to care who they upset are not making any comments.

What's the saying "Don't throw stones if you live in a glasshouse"?

    • +1

some of the biggest sh*t stirrers

      Such as?

What's the saying "Don't throw stones if you live in a glasshouse"?

Lol, so why are you stirring the sh*t then?

  • Amar89

Just look at some previous posters in other threads who seem to make regular comments and insults.

The saying don't throw stones (maybe not the best representation) is about not making criticisms if you have areas that may hurt you or that you may take personally.

Actually it isn't so much about this thread, more about some of the comments I have seen posted without respect for others.

As for Islam, I lived in the Middle East flying for the royal family in a nearby Islamic country and often flew passengers there (only allowed to the airport tho). It's still a definite experience to be in such a holy place and I have a deep respect for the religion when it is interpreted right. However understanding and acceptance goes both ways.

And as you pointed out there are a lot better ways to see and understand this.

  • remember peoples this is ozbargain, not ozbogan

    • +3

Or ozreligion. But as these deals are allowed, so should be the discussion, as stupid as some of the comments are.

I remember similar comments in a free bible post. If you can't deal with criticism, don't come here.

      • I don't understand that train of thought.

So you don't think religion-related deals should be posted to OzBargain? Why not? Because they aren't useful to everyone?

I don't particularly want to get Eneloop batteries, I'm happy with Varta. But I see millions of Eneloop posts day in, day out.. I'm not complaining.

Not all deals will be relevant to everyone! Doesn't make it any less of a deal.

Unless, of course, it's always free, or something along those lines.

But even then, there are plenty of deals on OB that are along the lines of "used to cost $xx, now free".

If you don't like the deal: just move on. Not hard.

  • +1

One day in the far far far far future the conversation might be like -

What does God need with a Starship ?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYW_lPlekiQ

  • +5

If this was a Christianity app exploring a church nobody would be complaining so much about all the offensive jokes.

Its simply going to happen when things like these are posted and its a natural reaction to subjects like these.

If this was the Quran in an app as a bargain then I would understand but its not.

    • Why the offensive jokes in the first place though? What is it about religion-related posts on OB that makes everyone grab their pitchforks? If you don't like the deal, how hard is it to just ignore it…

  • +2

Mod, please move it to forum as all the comment fit into forum and for Everbody Sake

  • +5

I came here to read the comments :^)

  • +1
