I still doubt anything there would be worth buying. Sorry OP.

I doubt it too, they are extremely over priced and I can't decide if I'll even go.
Just wanted to let everyone know just in case.

Fair enough. Thanks for effort though.

    Should be in forum.

  • Might be worthwhile noting that this is NSW and 2 hours from Sydney CBD

Like most Harvy Norman Sales, you'd get there and all they will have is overpriced crap.

I went to this VIP night thingy once before, yes, they have everything on sale. But only from 5% to 15% off which you can get easily by just asking.

so save your time and petrol.

    • Not Really, i bought my fridge and washing machine during one of these nights, i went ready with all homework done before attacking the salesmen. Did massive savings.

  • Why did u black out your name? I always wonder why people do that. Its not like someone could steal your identity just by knowing a random name or is it?

    • +1

I also blacked out my address.
      Just a preventative measure :)

      Gerry Harvey.

      • Damn… You guessed!!

    • it doesn't take much to find someone with a name and location, most would have a facebook or linkedin account.

      • and what can you do with that. I am sure you can find the same in white pages etc.

        • why are you using kaz8743?

        • +2

because he's too embarrassed to use his name of Tony Abbott

It is not a wise thing to splash any of your personal details around the internet.
Just a personal choice and not for debate.

    • is the name on your birth cert "kaz8743" ?

  • harvey norman staff price is cost price. Only go to these if you're buying a big ticket item as they tend to have high margin and are very rarely discounted in a catalogue. Small ticket stuff like games and accessories and low margin stuff like Macbooks and Ipads will most definitely be better in a catalogue.

      No it most certainly isn't.

Staff price is store invoice price + 8% for Gerry….but that's missing out a vital part of the equation which is the rebate the store owner gets for selling a certain amount of those items. Rebates mean no commission and different taxation. The entire franchise system of HN is designed to minimise taxation (and workplace obligations) hence the name of the parent company Derni, In (the) red.

edit: "Store invoice price" because sometimes head office will buy items and they'll then sell them to the stores at a higher price.

      • Could you explain more about how these rebates work? Who is paying the rebate? Does it go directly to the store's books? How would this minimise tax?

  • Not sure if that scan will work. As they will say "you don't even know what your friend and family's name is?"
Knowing Harvey Norman, they will prob use that excuse to charge you full price.

  • It will be accepted. This is just another marketing piece / tactic / avenue … do different to any other promotion. Designed to appeal to a different audience and create exclusivity combined with the personal element of referral. Its done early in the week to avoid late night shopping conflict with random walk-ins (thereby potentially giving away discounts when they don;t need to) plus Tuesday would be see as quiet time. So for a small amount of additional labour costs (use their casual staff may be?) they move more product

  • The cost price is not the true cost price ie all overhead costs has been included in it and the staff will still add on an addition 5% to the "cost price" to cover for overheads. Most of the time, the staff price cant even beat the prices at good guys, office works and JB Hifi etc. Also for items such as IPads, they will tell you that they are already selling the item below cost (even though it cost more than the other places) so you will pay the normal price. The only stuff worth getting are earphones because the margin is extremely high but there is a standard market rate. Other than that, most stuff will be cheaper if there are special deals else where.

  • What discount do staff get things at? I can't imagine it would be all that good if everyone gets it for a day.

I'm giving an upvote as a "thank you" for sharing.
