Wii U Skylanders Pack w/ Nintendo Land + Mario Kart 8 (with Free DL Game) $269 @ Target 31/5

1200

Spotted at Target Highpoint.

Wii U Basic 8GB + Skylanders + Nintendo Land + Mario Kart 8 (presumably with free DL game), starts 31/05. This is all for $269, which is $10 cheaper than the EB Games deal, plus you're guaranteed Nintendo Land.

This advertisement was spotted inside the store, but doesn't appear to be anywhere on the catalogue or online. (I've already bought my Wii U from EB Games…)

Update: As confirmed by others in the comments, this is most likely Australia-wide, i.e. if the bundle isn't advertised at your local Target, purchasing the Skylanders bundle (the advertised $259 bundle) + Mario Kart 8 will make the Mario Kart 8 show up as $10.

  • Nice find! Better than EB games deal. Bout time Target did a great deal on something :)

  • +1

Now to see if Target will put it online

    • please please please please please please please please please please…

    • Will be watching this like a hawk! >O_O<

If it doesn't come online by tomorrow night, I'm off to raid my local at 8am POST HASTE!

      • You guys need to relax, the wii U will likely be getting a price cut early june (E3). Its also possible retailers will dump wii u stock at a loss like they did with the gamecube (which was selling better then the wii u at the same point in its life cycle!)

There is a lot of room for price drops here guys, just chill.

  • +3

Haha I had a Ozbargain feeling I could wait a bit longer for a deal. Pushing it to Saturday, but this is perfect. Thanks OP.

    • +1

Yeah you gotta love retail competition

      • +1

Is it just me or has Big W, Dick Smith, Target and even EBGames (only with their Wii U Basic + MK8 deal) stepped up the price-wars recently? At least in the games department?

These last few days have been non-stop bargains, ranging from $54 WatchDogs at Target, $60 Wolfenstein, $52 Mario Kart on Saturday for Big W, all the Wii U console deals and now this one?

        • +1

          stepped up the price-wars recently?

Answer: EOFY!. Let the games begin. nuf said

  • Alot of wii u deals lately haha and this one would be much better than EBs deal.

I just bought my wii u bundle from Big W the other day, real happy with the find.

    I got this:
    https://www.bigw.com.au/entertainment/video-games-consoles/w…

    • Its not that much better than EB. Just $10. Also for those who have ordered from EB get a price match. It's the same bundle they have.

      • +3

will price matching at EB also give Nintendo Land?

        • Depends on what stock they have at hand to give you.

        • Nintendo land is only $39. Buy it seperate and get the best bundle value you can.

        • It's $20 pre-owned inside special deals, if you can wait.

        • I asked my local store and he said he couldn't give nintendo land but he could price match it.

      • +1

It's lots better; this is the Skylanders BUNDLE (which includes Nintendo Land) with Mario Kart 8 for $10 LESS, not Wii U basic + Skylanders standalone game for $10 more.

      • Along with Nintendo Land I think the Nintendo pack has a collectors Skylander figure in place of a regular one you will get at EB should They give you the standalone Skylanders as opposed to the Skylanders + Nintendoland pack. Not sure how fussed most people would be, but Targets deal is better even before you factor in the $10.

Some people have been fortunate to get the same pack that Target has from EB, but it imagine it's hit or miss.

  • +2

4 games for 269 with a console is pretty good.

    • Isn't it just 3 games? Skylanders, NintendoLand and MK8? What did I miss?

      • Buy Mario Kart 8 and download a full bonus game. gamesites.nintendo.com.au/mk8_bonus/

        • Wow! that's mad shit!

        • Remember; you'll need to buy a drive of some description to put the free game on.

        • Not for all games, at least if you get New Super Mario Bros U, that does actually fit on the internal storage.

  • Pretty sure target at highpoint has exclusive deals. I remember seeing some other wii u and 3ds deals only at that target. Probably explains why you don't see it online or in the catalogue.

  • Never would have thought I would go Nintendo this generation, but at this price hrmmmmm….

Haven't got a XBONE or a PS4 and probably wouldn't go either as they are just underpowered PCs and unlikely to get any real exclusives now that cross porting between consoles and PC are a lot easier on the devs.

    Or am I wrong?

    • +1

Been giving Nintendo all my money this year. Bought a 3ds xl and wii u. That's the same reason I'm holding off getting a xbone or ps4. Only reason I'll get one is for final fantasy or kingdom hearts. Other than that i can play almost everything on PC.

      • Final Fantasy has been cross platform including PC recently no? Well not XIIV (stopped playing that half way through on 360 as I haven't really liked any FF since 7/8) but that's on ps3 also and there's an online one on all 3?

Has there been any solid confirmation of any exclusives yet for the current gen consoles?

        • +1

Found a couple of lists. This one is between PS4 and X-One
          http://www.gamespot.com/forums/system-wars-314159282/complet…

This one is games across PS4, X-One and Wii U. It also highlights if they are on PC or not, although I don't think the list has been updated in awhile.
          http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_video_game_exclusives_%…

        • The only FF games on the PC are the old ones (8 and under which have recently been added to steam or emulator) or the online MMORPG (ff11 and 14). So, if any new FF games do come out it only going to be on console. I haven't been tracking ps4/xbone games sorry. I probably won't get one for a very long time anyway lol

        • The question is, why would you want to play Final Fantasy?

        • The only console likely to get real meaty exclusives in the next 18 months is this little beasstie right here. At this price, why the hell would you not?

    • You're pretty much right about that. Consoles are just for playing on a large tv/projector, but with more ppl now building HTPC/steam machines & using steam streaming…

Consoles will need to bring some significant features to survive in future.

      • I feel the Wii-U CAN do that, with the two-screen play it can provide, especially to couch gaming. But currently, nobody is really thinking about innovating for the tablet because the graphics don't compete. Because people are actually that petty.

    • I think you're wrong regarding exclusives, and some developers will still treat the PC as a second class system when it comes to shipping shoddy ports. Both consoles already have some titles that you can't get on PC. Whether you are missing out depends on what games you want to play.

      • Shoddy ports? I wonder if you're referring to that recent game, I can't remember what it was called. Something like Watch Hogs or something.

        • Not any game specifically. Unfortunately there's a number of titles that haven't been ported over too well over the years. There's other franchises (like Assassins Creed of the top of my head) where the PC copy was substantially delayed.

That's not to overlook the fact that often the PC will have the best version of a title too at half the price.

        • Often, but not always.

          See: Dark Souls 2.
          Any Rockstar Game

    • Sony will have the better exclusives as usual but at this price but a WiiU and wait on a PS4 bundle you want.

  • Any chance OP can get a shot of the poster with target logo on it in case other target store staff knows nothing about the deal?

    • It will be the same deal at all Target stores.

    • I was just in a Target to check this deal. Staff member said he knew nothing about it, but that's not to say it's not legit. The dude put the bundle aside for me and I'll call them back on Saturday to double check.

      • Deal only released today so maybe not all stores have received word/memo/notified of this to stop them selling them early?

        • Yeah my local knew nothing about it. The guy kept dismissing the deal, he thought bundling MK8 with the Skylanders bundle was bonkers. Hopefully they're informed before Saturday. I hate dealing with clueless people at the entertainment counter.

    • The poster doesn't have the target logo, but the sales guy said it should be Australia-wide.

    • +2

I'm standing in front of the exact same sign at Target Pagewood NSW. So looks like it's general.

  • Great Find!

  • considering… how much cheaper do you guys think these will get around christmas?

    • +2

Want it now buy it now. Your wait for the price drop is forever.

      • The mario kart 8 download redemption is only avail until 31/7.. There's a chance it won't be cheaper at Xmas once this is removed from the deal.

        • Buy Mariokart, register Mariokart online, take Mariokart back, get it at Christmas, profit?

    • My guess about sub $250 (depending on how sales go). Then again price may not drop at all if MK8 succeeds to lift console demand. Highly likely it will hover around current price point minus $20-40 IMO. Just buy one now.

      • +3

After X and Y 3DS XL prices have been around the same as they have been, if not more expensive. Not sure if that'll be a reflection for the Wii U, but there's no guarantee this competitive pricing will stick around imo

    • +3

Doubt it will be any cheaper than this. Think about it, it's like paying $140 for the console (mario kart is $48 at target right now, nintendoland $30~?, the free game should be around $50)

      • +1

Don't forget Skylanders Starter Pack which is about $49 on sale at the moment. Based on your calculations it would make the console $92. That's insane!
A standard Wii costs more than that new.

        • Completely missed that. I preoreded it at EB. Total bargain :).

        • Same, will be doing a price match when I pick up MK8 on Saturday :)

        • Only if you were planning on buying all of those games anyway, and at those prices. The only game I want is the free downloadable one. I would pick Wind Waker HD but likely won't play it. I beat the game on GC 11 years ago.

        • I would pick Wind Waker HD but likely won't play it. I beat the game on GC 11 years ago.

Me too. I'll prolly go NSMBU, Wonderful 101 or Pikmin 3.

      • I'd also say Mario Kart will be more expensive at Christmas once the launch sales are over. Look at the current prices for the other Mario games and Windwaker, along with the trends that we saw on the Wii. Nintendo first party titles often stay at a pretty high price.

      • Keep in mind; Nintendo is currently charging $170 bucks to replace Wii-U gamepads; add that to the price you're talking about there if we're trying to value the bundle all up.

    • I'm not sure it'd be substantially cheaper given you are getting four games after the redemption with this deal. If you don't want Mario Kart then maybe you'll get a console cheaper later on, but in a few weeks I imagine MK8 will go up and price and won't change a lot too often as happens with most Nintendo first party titles.

  • Does anyone know if I can cancel my preorder and layby for the Wii U MK8 basic package at EB games and get my money back? ($50 deposit layby for Wii U and $10 deposit for preorder of MK8)

    • +1

tmt: You should be fine doing that.

    • Yes you can, I just cancelled my pre-order and put my details down at Target.

    • Yeah, I've got $10 down at EB for MK8 at the moment, but will storm Big-W Sat morning & grab it there & cancel my pre-order afterwards.

      • thanks for the feedback guys!

  • They only way to beat this bundle is to have the Premium one @ Under $350 with Mario kart.

    • Even then I think this is the better deal given it includes Nintendoland. You can spend the $80 saved here and put it towards a 1TB external drive and a cheap IR blaster if you don't own one from the original Wii.

      • Yeah but mostly I just love black colour :) I would def get black one if it was say $330

        • -2

          WHITE POWER!

        • Substantially extra cost for just a different colour, little extra mem, gamepad stands. Not for me at >$350+; at <$250 I would buy, but 'each to their own'.

        • +1

Agree - premium isn't worth it. I've got the premium - at launch it was better value than the basic pack as it came with Nintendo Land. Looking at the deals on the basic it's definitely the best value option now.

The gamepad stand is useless -wii u comes with a charging cable which makes the stand redundant and clunky.

The sensor bar isn't so important since the navigation through menus can be done entirely through gamepad.

Internal storage isn't an issue since wii u games don't clog up internal memory with huge installs - if you need to download that many games (which can't be resold / traded) it supports external memory.

      • Why spend $80? Most of the space will go unused.

        • +1

Spend whatever you want, I was just pointing out that the left over money will net you a HDD that far exceeds the premiums 32GB.

  • +1

1 silly question, can we use the Wii U to play blu ray discs?

    • Nope

    • +1

Haha, don't be silly. Wii U is a game console, not a all-in-xboxone

      • You spelled xbone wrong.

The Wii-U can't even play regular DVD's, let alone Blurays.

  • Do EB match bundles like this? Regardless, going to return my Skylanders bundle to Big W tomorrow (thought I got a steal @ $268…) and hopefully grab this.

    • My local Target was sold out, so I went to EB. They were also sold out, but said they'd have some stock the next day or two. I put $50 down.

Picked it up today, and they agreed to price match the Target price, though they couldn't include the Nintendo Land game.

However I've just looked at the box and it seems that the new stock is the same as they are selling at Target - it has Nintendo Land included!

      Your mileage may vary.

P.S. Target - if you run out of stock, and you don't want to tell your staff if there is any possibility of more stock coming in ever, maybe get them to take the price down?

  • +5

So Close…. Went to my local Target tonite. Asked about this deal, "yep we have it sir, here you go" says the guy at entertainment counter. Had the bundle in my hands, credit card out when bzzztt the Mario kart 8 game came up as "Entry barred" on the checkout screen. Calls over his manager who says "sorry, we werent supposed to release this bundle till saturday morning" and glares at his employee. Bugger! Oh well, its on hold with my name on it till saturday morning!

    • Where is your local Target?

My local one (Mt Gravatt, Brisbane) doesn't have any knowledge of this deal :(

      • +1

Target has store in Mt Gravatt? I did not know that. I visit Garden City everyday, could you let me know what the Target is? Thanks.

        • +1

I believe he's talking about the one in Mt Gravatt Central

        • Has anyone called this Mt Gravatt store or Target Springwood? Do they have this bundle?

      • The store is in Perth, WA.

  • This is really tempting but I do not know much about the Wii U or the Nintendo universe. I enjoyed games like Mario Kart or Super Smash Bros when I was in school but that was because of the local multiplayer gameplay. I have the PS4 and 95% of the time play single player games. Do Wii U games mainly focus on multiplayer play? Or do single-player fans get similar enjoyment?

    • There are a lot of games that have absolutely fantastic singleplayer. Namely Pikmin, Donkey Kong (is also co-op!), Super Mario 3DWorld (is also co-op!) and my absolute favourite, Wonderful 101. I'm a singleplayer gamer (coz I has no friends ;_;) and have gotten over 200 hours on the Wii-U since only Christmas, with Wonderful 101 and Monster Hunter being the best on the console so far. Remember, Bayonetta and X are coming soon; two games that are going to have extensive singleplayer campaigns.

  • Fantastic! I have the EB deal on layby but I didn't give them my full name or phone number or money, so I will try to get this deal first. I just noticed that Target has taken $10 off the wii remotes as we'll so they are now $59. Everyone must need a handful of controllers to go with MK8.

  • Wii U Basic 8GB + Skylanders + Nintendo Land + Mario Kart 8 (presumably with free DL game)

Can someone tell me what free downloadable games you can choose from, and whether they will fit on the internal storage (8GB minus OS)? I'm intrigued now due to the BigW 10% Gift Cards deal (which IMO is ill advised).

Not sure if I should, considering I don't intend to play Skylanders or MK8. But tempted.

I can get this for $255.55 with my staff discount card. If I combine it with Westfield gift cards from BigW, hmm. I've calculated roughly that it will cost me about $218 plus some Westfield GC surcharges. That's pretty close to the $200 price I said I would bite on.

Damn it. Ugh. I've spent so much this week already. :(

    • They won't fit onto the basic memory on the console, you'll need to buy a hard drive (you need a portable hard drive with a power adaptor as the wii-u doesn't provide enough power to power the drive via usb, I've heard), plugging it in and selecting the option will format the drive, there are tutorials on youtube.

      https://www.nintendo.co.uk/Campaigns/Mario-Kart-8-Bonus-Game…

      The games are:
      Nintendoland
      Super Mario Bros U
      Game And Wario
      Pikmin 3
      Zelda: Wind Waker
      Sonic Lost World
Sonic And Mario at the Winter Olympics
      Wonderful 101 (OMGOMGOMGOMGSOOGOOOOOOD)
      Wii-Party-U
      Monster Hunter 3 U(ltimate)

      • (you need a portable hard drive with a power adaptor as the wii-u doesn't provide enough power to power the drive via usb, I've heard)

You're kidding.. that is so backwards. It's already backwards that the only way to get decent storage is via an external, it's even more backwards that the USB ports only support the slow USB 2.0. That they don't power a 2.5" drive is super backwards. They can't get any external power, so you're stuck with using 3.5" external HDDs, or a much lower capacity USB stick (can it power one of these?).

        • You can get a USB hard drive with 2 USB power connectors and plug them BOTH into the Wii-U and that works, but only a single USB connector won't work.

        • I don't have any of these. I got several 2.5" drives from WD, Seagate, Toshiba, HP, and an iomega. None of them have 2 USB connectors.

The only thing I have that has 2 USB connectors is an enclosure.

Will a USB stick get enough power?

        • Small things will probably get enough power, but if you wanted to plug a 1TB or 2TB in, I don't think it'd be very happy. I'm yet to test any of this, this is based from what I've read on the internet, but Nintendo has said they only support plug-pack hard drives.

I am buying an enclosure on Ebay this week to be able to play Wind Waker, because I unfortunately already have Wonderful 101 D:

    • If you have no interest in MK8 then trading it in may be an ok option. With any luck the trade in value day one would be fairly good and get you under $200.

      Promo is at http://gamesites.nintendo.com.au/mk8_bonus/

  • When does this deal end?

    • It doesn't start until tomorrow, so.. I dunno, maybe the 7th of June? totally random guess is totally random
