520

These folks have a free and a Professional version. This Professional version looks like a good alternative to Microsoft Office and the price is right - PRO for FREE! Site says:

A Cost-effective [yeah even better when free!] office suite that is small in size but big on features.

As an office suite of desktop applications, Kingsoft Office consists of a word processor—Writer, a spreadsheet program—Spreadsheets and a presentation program—Presentation. Compared with other office suites, Kingsoft Office is regarded as one of the best office applications with user-friendly interfaces and excellent performance.

In addition to innovative features in the last version such as a built-in PDF creator, the latest version has added various new features, allowing you to switch between the 2013 and classical interfaces, adjust your paragraph formatting and table dimensions with drag and drop, save files as more formats (such as .docx, .docm, .xlsx and .xlsm) and insert a movie or background sound into a PPT slide.

Kingsoft Office Suite Professional 2013 will not only enable you to fulfill data analyzing needs in business, but to turn your innovative ideas into illustrative documents or presentations.

In addition to the features of Office Free 2013, such as one million rows and columns in worksheet, saving files as DOCX, XLSX formats, the Professional edition supports VBA and Macro.

The suite is robust and efficient enough to be trusted with even your most complicated office tasks.

I use Kingsoft Office on Android (also free) without any issues so far after 12 months use.

Free 30-day Trial Only. From the License Agreement displayed during installation:

The KINGSOFT OFFICE PROFESSIONAL 2013 EDITION [“Product”] under this Agreement is a charged product. But before you pay the license fee for the “Product”, there is a one-off 30-day free of charge trial period […]. Once the Trial Period expires, if you want to continue to use the “Product’, the precondition is that you must agree and accept all articles of the END-USER LICENSE AGREEMENT OF KINGSOFT OFFICE PROFESSIONAL 2013 EDITION [“EULA”] and pay the license fee […].

not correct: this a fully working preactivated version (not limited), license is loaded automatically after installation, check product management center. Just installed right now and saw this. Anyway this should be a 1 year license like other similar giveaways got recently.

      • if it's the 1 year edition, Op please change the title to save $29.95

My mistake. I bailed as soon as I saw this message.

Wrong. It's the full licensed version. There doesn't seem to be any expiry date either.

    Libreoffice.

    • Absolutely.

Although I'm interested in Kingsoft's claims that their package does VBA and macros. As far as I'm concerned, that's the only reason to use MS Office (ie for legacy spreadsheets that are full of VBA code).

Downloading this just for a looksee. The price is right, after all.

Libre is no where near the compatibility level of this app. It really is very good and is very much up to scratch of MS Office.

        • While not a Libre Office fan, you'd probably be very surprised of how good it's gotten lately

Having used MS Office, Libre Office, open office and Kingsoft Office then I would definitely put Kingsoft at the top of the alternatives.

Kingsoft is far more usuable IMO with better compatibility than Libre. It's also lighter on a system than a standard installation of MS Office, so I choose to use it over the licenced copy of MS Office I have access to.

  • oh - this is pro version for the free price

    carry on then

  • good on kinhsoft…

Libre Office or Open Office, both actively developed. you'll get no updates with this.

    • +1

      I think OpenOffice is discontinued

      • -1

No, it was gifted to the Apache Software Foundation.
But LibreOffice has more development and support (due to a bunch of the OpenOffice devs founding it after the original OpenOffice was shut down by oracle).

    • +1

Kingsoft Office is still being actively developed as well afaik.

Does this version work on a Mac?

    • It's on a site called "Windowsdeal".

      So… yeah, maybe…
