Outback Jacks $49 for $100 Value Dining @ Scoopon [NSW, 4 Stores]

31

This is exactly like the Hogs Breath one recently posted, only it's at Outback Jacks which may be considered a better option? I haven't tried them myself so I can't say.

$49 for $100 or $89 for $200 - Pretty good deal I thought.

Locations:

  • Blacktown
  • Chullora
  • Maitland
  • Top Ryde

Valid from 1 June 2014 - 1 September 2014 (see link for further details)

Outback jacks is ok, it's nothing special, and pretty expensive. Obviously it's a steak house, but a parma is something like $26-$30?! This voucher would bring it to "normal" prices for the quality.

    • +2

Agreed, would prefer to pay full price at the Outback Steakhouse if I want something along these lines

    • Out of interest, how would it rate against Hogs Breath? I bought the HB deal but haven't gone there yet. I know a lot of people dislike HB but last time I went to the Castle Hill branch the food was top notch so I'm going to chance it. On the flipside, their local store (Terrigal NSW) was terrible.

HB is great (Except Terrigal & St Marys).

Having had both, the Hoggs Breath Prime Rib is WAY better than the steak at OJ. They have their own method of preparing them (slow cooked for 18 hours or whatever) whereas OJ just have quality steaks of various sizes (I've had the 500g, and boy did i take a massive dump the next morning… good times). Both are fairly expensive, but OJ is terribly overpriced for what they do.

I was at HB a couple weeks ago, and for two people who got 2 steaks, couple starters and five beers, you don't see much change from $120.

Either way, both are generally the kind of American-type steak houses, so you're going to get a lot of meat, fries and very little veg, and you will leave happy.

TL;DR Hoggs Breath all the way.

Outback jacks is absolutely horrendous. The first and only time i went was with a scoopon voucher and i wouldn't go back if they offered free food.

    • Yep, gotta agree, was ripped off in their Cairns store with really bad "and off" food.
Terrible service (only one guy working in the whole restaurant).

    • Just to give a different opinion, here in WA I have tried the Northbridge Outback Jacks.
The food was good for the price, the only issue was the service. The food took 60 minutes to come out!

      • I went to Northbridge a few years back when it first opened and I loved it, don't remember waiting too long although the prices were on the steep side. Went to Cannington on Saturday night for a birthday, would rate 2/10 for food and 1/10 for service! This half price deal may bring the prices to a level worthy of what you receive but I still wouldn't go again.

    • IME, OBJ is the most hit-n-miss steakhouse franchise in the country. I've had some terrific meals at some restaurants & abysmal experiences at others…best to check local reviews as YMMV.

If you get a good one, the all-you-can-eat ribs & wings is bloody awesome! :)

[edit] If anyone knows whether the Maitland one is any good, please feel free to let me know, it seems to be quite new so no reviews as yet. FWIW, the local Newcastle one (Glendale) is a shocker! :'(

Pretty sure you would go back for free food. Let's be honest here…

I agree as well, Hogs breath is just as bad. Terrible food and feel so ripped off. I don't know how they get it so wrong. (The ones at Knox Ozone in Victoria)

  • Would never, ever go back to this place. Had terrible service. Wouldn't return if they paid me.

    • Doesn't really constitute a neg though. I hate Target and Kmart. I have terrible service every time I go. I wouldn't return if they paid me. Doesn't mean I neg every Target and Kmart deal that pops up.

      • +1

Except for the fact it has a 28% rating on Urban spoon out of 250 people. The only way you can possibly get 28% is if you take a dump on a plate and serve it to customers.

      • +2

Yes it does. Even for $49, $100 worth of their filth is not worth it. It is already priced over twice what it is worth, so even at half price this is not a bargain.

I would hate for a struggling family to jump on this deal and waste $50 or more which could have been better spent elsewhere- hence the neg.

  • Tried this one in Adelaide on a scoopon deal a year or 2 back.
Meal was disgraceful. Even when showing them the plate full of gristle left on my plate, all we got was a shrug of the shoulders. Not sure if it was because we used a coupon, but haven't been… and wont be going back.

  • Hmmm, some of the fine print is troubling:

Get yourself $100 to put towards ANY food and ANY drinks on the menu for ONLY $49

    Valid for lunch or dinner

Excludes lunch specials and any other specials including the 1kg challenge

    Unused credit will be forfeited

Maybe people can go there for $100 of pre-drinks before heading off to a decent steakhouse?

      • +1

Could almost be a separate deal in itself lol.

        Only at OzBargain :)

  • Tried the one at Top Ryde. Not going back for sure. Would rather go HB or Outback STEAKHOUSE.

The only speciality they have is "Everything is Expensive" and the portion is small.

Outback Jack in Southport managed something quite amazing for me a few years ago.. A single steak that was both overcooked and pretty much raw at the same time.

Never went back, though they have been through one or two management changes since.

    • +2

That is the one I went to. Foul food and abominable service. Made a written complain - of course no response.

    • thats closed down isn;t it?

  • +2

I so miss Lonestar - put HB ribs and steak to shame.

    • +1

I used to go just for the ranch dressing. Wish they'd come back.

  • went to the blacktown one around 5 months ago..was ok but a bit on the pricey side..would have definitely been worth it with this voucher..

    hmm..might give it another try..

  • Avail 4 restaurants only, would go well in title. Not NSW.

    • Noted and amended.

Glad its not for the one in Glendale. Visited there last week and was the most horrendous dining experience I have ever encountered.

Seats all torn up. Tables unclean. Knives on tables were dirty. To top it all off the medium well done steak we ordered came out rare and the mashed potato was actually Deb. What restaurant would think it would be a good idea to serve instant mash potato to their customers.

Judging from my experience and the other comments it seems that the franchiser does not do any sort of quality control of the brand. Stay far away.

They gave me vouchers when I complained. In hindsight I should have walked out without paying.

  • hahahaha…. Outback Jacks are crap everywhere!

Scan through Urban Spoon review site and see how poor they rate everywhere.

This is Belconnen ACT's review from 39 customers so far. 15% success rate, ouch :).
    http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/344/1791124/restaurant/ACT/Outba…

And from first hand experience- I would NEVER go back, even if the manager called and said the whole meal would be free.

Outback Steakhouse on the other hand…. wow.
I go to Parklea and Campbelltown ones when visiting family and friends (and I'll meet family there even though they live 30min away from it!).

Always top notch… but very busy as well.

Buy One Get One for the Hogs breath fans at Campbelltown.

  • I am taken aback that there is so much love for Outback, I have been going there for years and years and i find gradually it has really dropped down. I dont rate their steaks or ribs. Hogs Breath is way better for steaks. For ribs, its a tough one..maybe hurricanes, i wasnt that impressed by ribs and rump. My favourite ribs was this american steakhouse but i forget the name..in melbourne.

Saying that I do love the wings in Outback and thats what i order for entrees and mains generally, that and the entree prawns (forgot the name). Occasionally a lobster tail as an addon :).

    • Outbacks cheese and bacon chips for entree, followed by alice springs chicken with mash….. HEAVEN!
