      No they dont sony one was great i did one with them … They just let you pick a camera from point or shoot, dslr or compact. Its pretty awesome plus i have never seen vivid sydney so i believe that would be great

    Does anyone know how long the tour and class goes for? There seems to be one starting every 20 minutes so i would guess 20 minutes. Just trying to work out if its worth the trip, thanks!

          For some, even some of the tips or experience using their camera plus the Vivid Festival is worth it IMO. Been a couple years now and it was fun. Some nice interactive activities too.

          I don't see it as work. I see it as a chance to learn and experience a photo walk with experts. Plus I intended to go to Vivid anyway so this photo walk and free SD is a bonus!

    don't bother right now, if you try to log in to your mycanon account it takes forever to log in, if you fill out details it takes ages only to get a 404 error file or directory not found message!
    ps if i got in i think i would have taken mostly portrait/candid shots of the cute girls anyway… ;)

      Make sure to check your email, because even though it comes up with a 404 your details might have gone through.

      I tried twice, the first time only got the email confirmation for registration
      so I tried again and after hitting 404 error few times, finally I was successful and received an email confirmation immediately confirming time and date.
      The site appears to be ozbargained

      If it's anything like the Sony one I went to, you'd have to register when you arrive and provide some form of ID before they issue you with a camera.

      Don't worry, they won't let you walk away with the camera for free ;)

    Went onto ozbargain… now I know why its full, damn lol.

    I was going to attend the event with my point n shoot :P So it would have been nice to have used the latest. Oh well, I think i would have been frustrated with the timing out. Have fun with the camera :)

        Thanks for the heads up. I'm not that fussed about the whole group thing as I've done vivid in the pass,i just don't have a good camera this time around, so 70d with an alright walkabout lens would have been good.

    The one bloody time I'll actually be in Sydney, without my camera and here was an opportunity to get to use one of theirs (and try it out), and it's been ozBargained by a bunch of people looking for a free freaking SD card that will just sit in a drawer.

      The cost of public transport will easily exceed the cost of buying an 8gb card, so I think that may be a little unfounded.

        I was going off the comments above where they aren't actually even going to try the camera…just see if they can stick their hands out for the free SD card…of course there are plenty of legit people who are actually interested in the photography/camera trial side of it. Although when I commented they seemed outnumbered by the ones who were just signing up because of the free SD card.

        I wonder how many won't bother turning up once it actually comes time. Hopefully there won't be too much abuse, so that Canon offers it again another year.

        My drawer reference was based off my recollection of a discussion upon how many useless freebies/cheap stuff people have sitting unused in drawers…quite a lot apparently.

    Damn, it wasn't free last time. I did remember seeing some weird random pictures on the boards. I think they force you to put your photos up so everyone can see you.

    I just finished the course. It was pretty good, get to see the lights come on at 6:00 if you happen to have your tour on then. It gets packed later on. The SD card is a cheapo Verbatim one probably worth around $10 ($5 ozbargain). They do get some knowledgeable people to guide you with ISO, shutter speed etc which was very helpful. Haven't got the book yet, you get a $40 to use on anything on the PhotoPico site just only the photo book is under $40 apart from photo enlargements. Also they take your ID for the duration of the tour so you don't run off with the camera or drop it into the sea.

      Also finished the "walk" last night….. A couple of extra points to add on to CN's comments……. The tour runs for an hour. You can use your own camera so long as it is a Canon, other brands no allowed!

    I went on the tour last night and I had a great time. The camera they lent us (Canon EOS 70D) produced such great quality photos. Plus the tour guide brought us to good spots and gave us some tips for taking photos (manual mode) of the lights. After that we went back to Canon HQ where they have some nice camera displays and a photo exhibition.

    The SD card they gave us was a Verbetim card that was 8GB and a class 10. Pretty good I'd say!
