What is the absolute maximum 4G mobile data I can get for $40? Needs to include a basic amount of calls and SMS too.
I live/work in Brisbane City - so no network preference.

I am in a capital city - 4G definitely dominates in speed and its noticeable even with basic mobile data usage.
Telstra prepaid Encore plan.
$40 gets you $510 "funny money" and $40 real credit and 600MB data. If you use all your real credit to buy Telstra browse packs, $20 for 700MB, $40 gets you 1400MB + 600MB on the plan gets 2GB. On top of the $510 funny money for normal calls, text and can also be used for international calls and text.
Vodafone was cheaper, but you can't get the plan on a new SIM.
Should also add that you get free national calls between 6pm and 6am so depending on your call patterns you might not be able to even spend all your funny money. :)
How about Vaya $18 plan which includes 1.5GB data, then add on a 1GB data pack for another $15.
That makes it $33p/m for $650 calls, unlimited SMS and 2.5gb data which, for me, would be better than the Vaya $45 offer.
I am truly surprised the all-expensive-Telstra is dominating this price point in the market - considering they have the superior network for coverage and speed.
See if you can still get the Telstra Family and Friends deal, and sell the phone unopened. Buy the $5 data pack to reduce the cost of data out of the Cap.
Why 4G? Speed will be network dependent so in some areas Telstra 3g will be better than other networks 4g.
I think amaysim (optus network) have some deals, otherwise Boost (Telstra)for 2GB of #G data for $40.
