Does anyone know the cheapest deal for prepaid pocket WiFi? I will only use it occasionally, so won't be needing too much data, but I need longer expiry period. I will also need to get the modem.

Iam currently using the 3g USB prepaid modem, was $10 with 1gb data, I have a few of these
I have also taken up Amaysim prepaid monthly @ $40.00, (promo code brings it down to $30), with 4gb data, OK for browsing on net, not the best deal as data usage charged in MB's
You can easily connect it to the laptop and hotspot it using something like connectify.
May I ask what this does?
Does it mean non-3G items like tablets or laptops can connect to this device, which produces the 3G/4G connection (prepaid or plan).Or does this device allow the tablet to use the connection from you phone data plan?

These devices take their own SIM card and connect to a 3G network, then make that connection available to your devices via WiFi. Since they need their own SIM card, they can't share your mobile data plan.
However, many smart phones offer WiFi tethering, which allows other devices to share your mobile phone's data connection via WiFi.
look at the amaysim prepaid plans…$9.99 a month for 1GB which seems quite decent…just buy a new unlocked modem or a second hand one from ebay(i would buy ebay)…amaysim uses optus so you can even buy optus locked wifi device…or just buy a cheap huawei mobile phone and use it for tethering….
