  • Pretty cheap…

The cheapest I have been able to purchase was $39 for 12 months but that was back in 2011. My last renewal was for $49.

Not sure if I want to commit for 4 years, but I will have a think.

    Thanks OP!

  • OK I have a win 7 HTPC and wondering if I get anything out of using ICETV. I did use the trial a while ago but as it was 100 bucks for a year figured it wasn't worth it and now cant remember what the advantages were.

So anyone using that thinks it is worth it and why?

I think the guide information is more informative… You can also use the Ice App on your phone to schedule recording shows remotely.

      • Not sure if you suffer the 'Opportunistic Scanning' issues that Media Centre has. It uses OS to update the over-the-air guide data, however this can cause the tuner source for a given channel to switch to another freq that it's detecting, or even add channels back in that have been manually removed. Only really a problem when 2 different TV transmitters are detectable.

I've always wondered though if Ice TV would stop this issue from happening.

As for remote scheduling, I do this via WiFi using 'Remote Potato' on my Tablet as it can access Media Centre's default OTA guide and set recordings. I haven't bothered configuring it for access via the net but it should be possible.

Nope no scanning issues on mine, Running twin tuners and no changes in the channels or re-adding channels. Could possibly use the remote recording but probably only once or twice a year.

        • Here at Nelson Bay we can get the Newcastle transmission as well as own, and then add Wollongong signal to the mix and this can play havoc. TV recordings start failing and you find out it's switched tuning to another tower. The Op scanning allows channel guide data to be updated without having to watch the channel.

It's still a nice change from XP MCE. It couldn't use OTA guide data so we had to use ICE or the other community driven one that was around back then.

One of the huge pluses is the set and forget series recording. Unlike other programs, ICE's data is all handled manually. So if there is a bizarre name change then ICE tag it with the relevant data to keep it being recorded. You just don't miss shows.

      • Yeah, love this feature! It's also handy for those channels that randomly change the program time slot… Or when they would just stop the show for a few weeks then randomly bring them back on at 11pm, without any notice..
The iceTV series record feature will get it whenever it's on!

Reminds me of Ice TV's Lifetime Membership* offer.

Fine print was 'lifetime of the device it was being used on' which they arbitrarily said was a maximum of 5 years.

  • Yeah I missed the last cheap top up and had to renew for a year @ $99 just recently… so annoyed i didn't hang out for the special.

Will they even be around in 4 years? I'm not sure about such a long commitment?

    • If you are a regular subscriber, the good folk at IceTV may sell you a 12-month renewal for $49 instead of $99. You just have to ask.
Anyway this current deal is basically a 'pay for 3, get 4 years' subscription (based on the $49/year price I usually pay).

  • IceTV is a good service.
The only problem I have with IceTV is that their program guide is not always correct, for example tonight in Melbourne on 7mate Godzilla is on but IceTV guide has something else.
This kinda buggers up and scheduling of recordings etc.

Thanks OP, I have been waiting for this for months!!!!
    Appreciate it!

  • Hmm, doesn't seem to appear. Fair to say it's over or am I missing something?
