Compatible with both smart and non-smart phones.

So will it work on my Nokia 6190 ?

Is it done in ascii ???

What channels does this include ? Does it include Fox Sports ?

    • +2

the time it took you to write that stupid comment was more than if you clicked the link provided by OP and seen the pictures of channel listings.

      • and seen the pictures of channel listings.

better they are listed in the description… easier to search.

    • The free offer doesn't include the sports pack.

  • Does not work with my HTC Windows Phone 8X and that was Microsoft's flagship launch phone!

Your current device appears not to be compatible with the Mobile Foxtel service.

    • Windows Phones don't like the way we do the video streaming.

      • How about a Nokia N9 running Meego 1.2 Harmattan?

        • No idea. Haven't got one to test for you.

      • How about a Nokia smart phone running various versions of Symbian?

        • Pretty sure I used a Nokia N97 once… Good times.

        • Yes. Well it used to. I had it on a Nokia e51. Worked great.

  • Hasn't this been free for sometime. From their terms and conditions "…This offer is available from 26 July 2012 to 28 February 2015 (“Offer Period”), unless otherwise determined by us".

Have tried this but has limitations like cannot exceed a few hundred minutes a month.

    • I don't know of anyone who has actually been kicked off the service due to that hundred minutes clause.

the list of evils that murdoch has been directly involved in is staggering. (Milly Dowler fone hacking, helping abbot to get in to block the nbn and stop any direct competition to his foxtel from netflix just to name a couple)

even if foxtel was priced competitively and a decent service i still wouldnt touch it.

assuming you are one of the lucky ones that has working adsl (or better) heres a guide to not having to get raped by fox/murdoch.. http://www.reddit.com/r/australia/comments/1wxf1u/murdochs_n… (thanks neil for posting this already elsewhere)

PROTIP - don't let your sons inherit a newspaper publisher.

  • if you have foxtel direct with foxtel and not telstra then that will chew up your 4G data.. this is better since its unmetered and SBS for world cup:)

    • The only thing better than watching the Socceroos at the World Cup is watching the Socceroos at the World Cup with no data charges. GO TEAM!

      • TRUE DAT! except the service is temporarily unavailable :|

        • You sure? I just tried it and it worked.

The last time that I tried to use the service on an Android mobile, I found out that it only works with Android mobiles running a Telstra ROM. I hope that this has since changed.

    • That is still the case, as we only support official Telstra phones.

      • This is a bit silly, must be missing out on a lot of clientele.

        • +1

Not really. If you're tech savvy enough to root and install a custom ROM, you probably have other entertainment options more suited to you.

        • I am not talking about myself. If I personally wanted Mobile Foxtel from Telstra, it would take me 5 seconds to modify the build.prop file.

I am talking about the tens of thousands of customers who would have gotten their mobiles on contract from different mobile carriers, purchased unlocked mobiles and grey imports.

Does Telstra really get any benefits out of this restriction? Less money in the bank at the end of the month, if anything.

        • Does Telstra really get any benefits out of this restriction?

of course they do, they make a profit on each fone they import and rebrand.

        • Most consumers wouldn't know about this restriction, let alone make their purchasing decision based on whether or not the mobile was compatible with Mobile Foxtel.

        • i used to work for a mobile fone shop.. you would be surprised..

      • So I downloaded the app today to see if it worked on rooted phones as my Foxtel Go app does not. My Note 2 is an ex-Vodafone phone that I put the stock Samsung firmware on. I am a new Telstra mobile customer and the app is working!

So perhaps things have changed, but as of this date the latest Mobile Foxtel app works on a rooted non-Telstra phone with a Telstra SIM in it.

    • I used this service on my Nexus 5 (Gogle play bought device rooted) without any issues but just wifi must either be disabled or unavailable. I am on the encore plan from telstra and one of the benefits of that is to use your "unused" credit on the subscription.

      • Yeah, rooted phone is OK, just not custom ROMs.

  • does it mean free game of thrones for 4 weeks? or that's not include in mobile foxtel?

I gave this trial a go this month and found the content on offer to be limited and repetitive. Also, the app doesn't utilize the whole iPhone 5/5s screen and the image quality is terrible on an iPad. I want to subscribe but can't justify the cost with issues like these.

    • Fair enough. Thanks for trying it though. Appreciate the feedback.

    • What do you mean by doesn't utilise the whole screen? It's in the 4:3 ratio of an iPhone 4 with the black bar at the bottom?

      • Yes, it hasn't been updated for the iPhone 5/5s screen. When you start the app, it has black bars on top and bottom and when watching a show, there are black bars on all sides .. definitely 4/4s sized. The app was last updated December 11th, 2012 and no updates were added for the new (at the time) iPhone 5 screen.

        • Agreed. On my Note 2 any widescreen program does not fill the screen in any direction. I have an iPhone screen-sized video (3.5" or smaller?) in the middle of my nice large 5.1" screen. There are no gesture controls for swiping volume or app brightness, and any touch just takes you back to the program information.
Having to turn off wifi is also a pain, as any other app I have running starts eating up the data while Mobile Foxtel gets its unmetered stream… and I have to remember to turn wifi back on after watching something. I realise there are limitations on app design (no weighted routing etc), but surely we should have the option of using wifi if a valid Telstra SIM is also detected?

It's terrible content. Nothing like foxtel standard or foxtel go. I wouldn't even use it for free anymore as I did have it for the one month

    • I can remember using it around 5+ years ago, National Geographic didn't even play full TV shows, just random small clips.
