2 newsflashes: the new 2100-cycle rechargeable eneloop Panasonic-branded batteries are finally available at Amazon (after showing 1-2 month availability for some time). With this bundle comes 4xAA new 2100-cycle batteries and a new advanced individual channel charger ( BQ-CC17 ) for a few bucks more than the old basic one Sanyo used to bundle with its PowerPacks (and 4xAA battery bundles like this one). The old one could only charge batteries in pairs (2 or 4 batteries at a time). Now we have a new smarter charger for 2014 that can charge 1, 3, 2 or 4 cells at a time along with the new longer (claimed) life of 2100-cycles. The previous eneloop batteries made claims of 1800 cycles (of course these are no doubt under ideal conditions not achievable by mere mortals).

The charger BQ-CC17 is so new it's really hard to get info on it. But I found these charge rates:

AA 300mA (7 hours)
AAA 150mA (6 hours)

The charger runs on world voltages (100-240V) so all you need is a $1 ebay USA to AU travel adaptor to run it here. It's not the world's fastest charger but these are probably ideal charge rates for longevity of the cells and each cell is getting individual treatment. There's no need to charge in pairs. This charger sells for $14.99 on amazon as we speak, by itself. So it's pretty decent to get the 4xAA new 2100 cycle cells for an additional $11 USD on top of the cost of the charger.

Shops like B&H sell the new 2100 cycle batteries and charger too http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1047698-REG/panasonic_… (for a few bucks less than amazon, if you don't count delivery). Speaking of delivery from B&H, don't frighten yourself if you have a weak heart (it makes no sense to buy single small items like this from B&H). Plus (as of this writing) B&H are stating Usually ships in 7-14 business days. So they don't have stock in their warehouses yet. Yes, these things are new. If B&H's site is any indication, they are also bundling this new advanced charger with the new Power Packs. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1047700-REG/panasonic_… Again, B&H is waiting on stock.

A couple of ebay sellers are selling this bundle, but not cheaper than this delivered. Check it (all prices in USD unless stated otherwise):

25.95 charger and 4xAA
7.98 delivery

Around 37 Australian dollars delivered

Strictly speaking, it seems you could have saved about a dollar the other day if you bought them on amazon then (it's not the absolute cheapest price) but go easy on me. This product is new and I have yet to see it cheaper delivered from a reputable store.

Enjoy!

  • I thought only Sanyo made eneloop batteries.

More accurately, Panasonic bought Sanyo full stop.

        • +6

Even more accurately, while Panasonic did in fact buy Sanyo, one of the conditions of the acquistion was that the consumer battery manufacturing division be sold off. So while the batteries that Panasonic label as Eneloop are still being made in the same factory that they were made in when Sanyo was manufacturing them, that facility is now owned by FDK Corporation.

    Your description is hopeless.

Well, this feedback is pretty vague but thanks for the feedback anyway. I tried to find all the info on the charger I could. I ended up finding some after about 40 minutes of searching. I'm assuming you wanted more info on the charger, but I can't tell from your response?

I think he's missing your anti-Australian retailer rants and comparative "LOLS PRICING".

Hehe…I didn't bother to see if I could get this in Oz yet (unlikely). Maybe next round? ;)

Their already existing fast charger can also charge individual cells… So the jury is still out whether this one is any better! But obviously the new gen (3 I think) batteries with 2100 cycles sound better!

    • +1

The bundled PowerPack chargers and the regular 4xAA charger couldn't do individual cells. The ones I've tried that could do individual cells were the 2xAA USB one and the 2xAA fast charger (I have it here somewhere). Sometimes the charge rates on these are (IMO) too high. I'm sure Sanyo made some other more expensive models that did it too.

This charger will shut off when the cell is charged properly (DeltaV), for those curious.

      • The Sanyo versions had two 4 bay chargers, one smart, one smartish. The smart one does individual channels, an has DeltaV too, it is a good charger. The one youre referring to is the smartish one, not a good charger. They have different part numbers but I cant remember them now, MC was one, and something or other. Probably easier to google and tell you than type all this but Ive started now and its kind of silly to stop…

I would try to find it, but I think Panasonic have taken down a heap of the old info that was available regarding the Sanyo products.

Edit: The other one is the quick charger, has individual control over slots and delta v etc. Id prefer the one in this deal, slow charge is better IMO.

        • Yes, I know they made some, but they weren't commonly available (and they were more expensive). I always thought Sanyo should be bundling better chargers with their batteries.

Definitely. I think these charge rates are spot-on. Not too low, not too high.

        • Here's a listing of the fast charger (individual charging) MQR06 from Masters. I purchased a couple of these when they had the working 15% OFF codes!
Skillet made some good remarks here about it on this deal.
And here is an archived listing of the MQR06 from Panasonic's website!
But keep in mind… These come with the 'now previous' generation 1800 cycle batteries!

Better to get order over USD35 for free shipping

Are you sure that's for Australia?

      • It doesn't apply to Australia at all. Damn, could you imagine how much more awesome Amazon would be if they did free shipping to Australia?!

And here's a link to Amazon to prove it's only to the US - http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=2…

        • Damn, could you imagine how much more awesome Amazon would be if they did free shipping to Australia?!

I hear that at one stage it was offered for a while. Not sure if it was for everything. I was not hip to the amazon ways back then, so I can't say. Amazon could do some better work in maybe getting rid of messages like that if they know your main address is in Australia…

        • Yeah that's true, hell, they can send you enough emails just by looking at a product once, surely they could do as you suggested.

In saying that though, I've always found for most things Amazon are very reasonable with postage, much more so than a lot of Australian retailers.

I remember amazon uk had free shipping on blu-ray/dvd orders over a certain amount…that was pretty awesome, most of my bluray collection is from that (the rest are from jb family and friends sales on the 2 for $x deals)

        • And books too, but unfortunately those days are long gone :(

Not happy that the over-zealous mod edited (deleted) my text. You know who you are, silent mod. Not only are the excessive Capitals In The Titles ridiculous, so are your silent edits.

    • -2

Silly downvoters that don't mind whole lines of text being taken from their listings. Humourless power-hungry mod. Creepy anonymous edits plus silly insistence on Capitals For Every Word.

  • I take it this charger would also charge the AAA batteries (DSE deal)?

    • Thanks. It's still pretty barren how Panasonic doesn't provide more info on their chargers. It looks like Panasonic have retired the old http://www.eneloop.info website. I can't reach it.
