Is it legal?

Probably a stupid question - I drive a hatchback and I am delivering a huge parcel to someone from a fair distance. However, the box is so big that it would obstruct my rear view mirror.

Is it legal to drive in this situation providing I have both the side mirrors intact?

Yes. As long as you have operational side mirrors it is ok.

    • I tend to agree with xywolap, as long as you have an operational side mirrors, especially left if it also obstructs the left blind spot, as on some older model cars the left mirror was an optional extra.

ever notice how trucks have a rear vision mirror but it is impossible to see anything behind due to the box? I always thought that it was useless to have the rear vision mirror, but I guess truckies need something to use when applying make-up.

    • That is a valid point

also note their side mirrors are significantly different to a normal car.

    • Many trucks are manufactured as a cabin and chassis. They don't know what is going to be built behind the cabin, so they include a mirror.

  • I am pretty sure that is legal.
