I've been told these can't be unlocked at the moment. Anyone know if that is the case?

    • +2

      Dunananananana Bagman??

      • +7

He's the one who told me it couldn't be unlocked.

        • Yep. Just Checked with Bagman as well and no unlock currently available.

You might still be able to use this phone with a Vodafone MVNO such as Lebara or Hello Mobile but that's about it without unlocking.

Has anyone ever successfully unlocked through this?

    512mb ram

    • It said Quad Core here, is A7 quad Core?

      http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_desire_310-6009.php

    • Ouch!

    • yeah the 4GB ram is also a bit dodgy, got the wife a 4GB phone and she cant install too many apps due to the system taking some of that space too…

looking for a nice quad core with a memory card slot, but has to have a bit more than 4GB ram… I rekon with kitkat the 512MB ram might be OK.

      • +10

The internal storage is called ram? Isn't it just 4gb memory , not 4gb ram?

        • i think it called ROM for internal storage and RAM as memory

        • +1

Nah.. ROM = Read-Only Memory, a flashback to ye olden times when systems had very specific memory setups….

If anything it is still RAM, you just shouldn't call it that because of the differences between RAM = memory & RAM = storage.

          Let's just call it storage - 4GB storage. :)

        • +2

          Ha! Memory is RAM!

        • RAM generally refers to volitile storage. I agree the 4GB should be called storage, but i wouldn't say it is still RAM.

        • IT Crowd.

      • +2

Just add 32GB SDCard and install apps on them if you have Android 4.x.x

        • Are u kidding me?? Google completely removed installation of apps external sd card feature after android 2.3. Though Samsung is doing it till now through some hackery, it's quite unsure they cam do that after 4.4 . For all the people who think you can install apps on so card, DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT.
But still it's a real bargain for such price. Getting one :)

        • +5

Jus root your phone and install Link2SD.apk

        • if this phone can be rooted?

        • So how much storage space is available internally on this phone for installing apps?

Is it 512MB (i.e. phone is unusable) or 4GB?

        • +2

The 512MB and 4GB are two different types of memory! The 512MB RAM isnt for installing apps or storing photos etc. Apps and photos etc will be on the 4GB (a little less than 4GBb because of the OS and system stuff).

        • Thanks for clarifying JLove :)

    • +4

Nasty, I wouldn't touch an Android phone with less than 1G of RAM nowadays it would run like a dog (lazy dog)

      • Agreed - even the Huawei Ascend Y300 has 1Gb. How can a quaddy have only 512? If you use apps much at all 512Mb will drive you crazy even if you can offload some to the SD card.

        • If you use apps much at all 512Mb will drive you crazy even if you can offload some to the SD card.

.. again, 51MB RAM vs 4GB storage. Apps don't get installed to RAM.

Saying that, 4GB storage is low considering how much space Android would take up.

  • As my understand HTC is very difficult to unlock.

  • Thanks, quite good bargain. Any link that can be shown in store.

Any idea what is the RAM on this handset 512 MB or 1 GB. GSMArena seems to mention both.

    • +3

      it's 512 MB

      • Thanks zelda707.

        Pretty poor review

    • +1

1GB model is only available in Europe and North America.

  • This should be a decent backup phone or to use while overseas. Any one know how difficult/easy it is to unlock this phone?

  • +1
    • +2

also found one more for $202 , 9 sold already..

      Sold for GBP 1.99-2.49

      Nobody actually paid $202.

    • $202… omg

    • +2

Just to let everyone know ,I just messaged the guy in the first link you provided. He replied that he cant unlock the HTC Desire 310 from vodafone australia.

  • just bought one from Vodafone 2 weeks ago (: But managed to unlock it. Be careful however I have tried different ones to unlock and only one managed to do so. most of them could not. The only one who managed took some 5 days and charged $12US. But at least mine is unlocked

    • +6

can you please share the link? where did you unlock it from?

    • HI Mate,

Can you please tell us which site you have used to unlock it ?

    • KNIGHT could you please let us know how you did that ?

  • If it is anything like the other vodafone prepaid I bought, you might be able to unlock it for free directly from vodafone. I'd say most likely not, but its worth a try.

  • +14

I don't understand the point of making a quad core phone with 512RAM
Happy to pay $20-$30 more if it was 1GB RAM

    • +3

      Yes, and 4GB? Still?

      • +1

What do you mean? I assume you meant 4GB built in storage size, not the RAM :D

I would have had a minor heart attack if I found a quad-core phone with 4GB RAM under $99 :P
(Yet a funny feeling when you think about these with 800×480 display)

    • +4

Yeah its kind of like google promoting kitkat as being able to run good on phones with only 512 mb of ram, then cutting kitkat support of their galaxy nexus phone that had 1 gb of ram.

      • +3

Considering HTC's track records, I will be very surprised if this model gets a Kitkat upgrade

      • then cutting kitkat support of their galaxy nexus phone that had 1 gb of ram.

Galaxy Nexus support wasn't dropped on account of the RAM.

    • +4

yep, that's the killer. With 512MB ram it'll run like a dog unless you don't run any apps, thus defeating the purpose of being a smart phone

  • +2

    Is there any custom rom?

  • Support mhl, does it mean it is a good buy as a android tv dongle? Need bluetooth keyboard/mouse thou.

  • this will be available in store or online AS well?

  • In same DSE ad… Huawei G526 on special for $199?? Offer ends 29th May…
That phone is available direct from Voda for $179 incl delivery… every day!! DSE = DOH!! :-(

    • +1

199 until 29th May and goes back to its original price 179 after that. So grab it at this special price while you can ;-)

    • Hi guys, I have a fairly new huawei g526, even had it unlocked. But then gf gave me a lumia that I've since used. Mine is available in Melbourne for 150 bucks if you're keen.

In today's world of smartphones it is refreshing to see a battery life as that of the g526. That too on 4g.

  • Oath

  • I wonder if this phone will work with Optus Prepaid?

  • I hope someone can find a cheap unlock, this is a pretty good deal

  • -4

Looks good what network does Vodafone use?

  • Love the Huawei G526 special price of $199 next to it (in the catalogue)! Vodafone are selling these in-store for $159 ATM. They are $179 everywhere else.

  • Anyone tried https://unlock.vodafone.com.au/ to unlock

    or http://www.htconlineunlock.net/htc-phone-unlock-network/VODA…

Please let me know if you know the unlock link

  • Checked VF website and seems like it costs only $25 to unlock after 6 months (with their unlock tool). So put it aside for a while, still a good deal. I am with PT so I guess I am good to go as they use VF network
    http://support.vodafone.com.au/articles/FAQ/Network-Lock

    • Who are PT?

      • PennyTel

        • Ok thanks.

  • Bought son (his choice) a little Galaxy Mini2 for about $120 at AllPhones, with Vodafone prepaid sim and $29 value I believe. He liked the size as it fits neatly in jeans pocket, virtually an identical copy of my Samsung Galaxy (still using an SII), with gps navigation app. Uses the $20 International pre-paid plan (they have several prepaid plans available). I think the camera is only a 2mp though. Just saying; he is very happy with his.

    • +3

But the S2 had 1G of RAM. How long has your son had this phone? I strongly suspect it will clag up very quickly once he starts installing apps.

Personally if I were after a cheap phone I'd look at Huawei, as they are better specd for the price.

      • Huawei Y300 FTW

      • Only a few months. I wouldn't suggest this phone to a person who wanted to load a lot of apps of course. He has only a few apps on it and it is fast … my SII is starting to slow down now so I have been deleting apps I don't really use. Depends on the person and what they are looking for in a phone. We have had no issues with Vodafone (I am an old 3 customer). Son has a 64GB (I realise that is big!) iPad2 to load apps on when/if he wants; probably about 100 there now … infrequent use, so he would in all honesty prefer to load apps there. I probably use that more than he for checking emails when doing other things (like tv). Son has only really used the GPS navigation app on the mobile … when my SII battery went flat! Identical app to mine (Blue arrow one). Son does not want to talk much on a phone … to anyone! Always recharge and roll credit over on his prepaid plan as he doesn't even use that $20 up. Even considering only recharging it with $10 this month. Has had mobiles (prepaid of course) since he was 10 (usually took my old phones when I updated) … for my benefit of course as a safety measure and just never got into excessive usage. He has all the other smart technologies that teens have; just that mobiles were never high priority for him for some reason. My SII has 8mp and his 2mp camera I believe.

        EDIT:

Just had a squiz online and specs are saying the Galaxy Mini 2 is a 3mp camera and it is a 4GB mobile.

        http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SAMSUNG-GALAXY-MINI-2-GT-S6500T-S…

Does that mean then that the Galaxy Mini2 is a better option than my SII?

        • +2

Does that mean then that the Galaxy Mini2 is a better option than my SII?

          Performance wise - NO

But if your son likes the size of the Galaxy Mini2, thats a different story.
Of course I personally would have picked the Sony Xperia E if I wanted a smaller handset.

my SII is starting to slow down now

If your S2 is getting slowed down - do a factory reset.
Also S2 battery life is a known issue - just purchase an aftermarket battery from ebay - good one costs between $15-$20

        • Thank you.

Yes, mobile size was important to son even though he likes my SII. The SIII, IV and V are all larger also. Have had my Galaxy SII for well over 2 years and cannot justify upgrading it at the moment, especially as son said it was too large for him!

Carry various chargers and spare battery for it. Was caught out whilst driving on a freeway, whilst on holiday (south east Queensland); was easier to use his at the time.

Factory reset good idea; should I remove memory card first or leave it in? I don't want any more apps than I have already … don't use what I have. Salesman told me I needed to upgrade to a new mobile … but not really … hey?! Internet is faster on this than home computer or laptop!

          :o)

          Ps. Good link for comparisons

  • +1

Any one found an option to unlock apart from waiting for 6 months and paying $25 to Vodafone ?

    • 12 month to get it down to $25 not 6 months

      • I stand corrected.. its now 6 months :)

  • AT&T is that a good network ?

    • +2

      LOL yes

    • +4

Verizon which Telstra uses and T-mobile utilised by Optus is a little better, but its not bad.

  • +1

I bought this few weeks ago from Vodafone for $143 :( + if i need to unlock their website quote $ 75 for it.

  • Do anyone know where to find the unlock for it

  • Found the unlocking link

    http://www.theunlockingcompany.com/index.php/htc-desire-310-…

    Cost USD $12.99

Please let me know if it works

    Cheers

    • AUD$13.90 if you put in Australia/VF

    • Tried this site and can't they replied back saying find IMEI.

      • .. so give them the IMEI? It'll be on the box the phone came in, as well as usually inside the back cover, assuming it comes off.

      • Sorry guys. I made a typo.
Any way this is what i meant to say:

They can't unlock it. Can't find the phone IMEI on their database. Asked me to try again in few weeks.

        • Usually just enter;

          *#06#

On you mobile and the imei should appear.
It is usually also located under the battery.

I was unable to get an unlocking code from Vodafone for an old 3 mobile; same reason given.

Another unlocking site (let us know if works …)

          http://www.code-unlocking.com/?gclid=COmNSYDo5bsCFa9epgodcgE…

From just $1.89 apparently .. don't know; never tried them. Good luck!

        • These guys also said they couldn't find the unlock code and refund me my Pap pal Payment

        • Edit: Just paid $5.99 for unlock code for my mobile (Galaxy). Appears legit. Have order no. and receipt no. through PayPal. Have to wait up to 24 hours for the unlock code, to be sent to my PayPal (or another if designated) email address. Only thing is that I don't have another sim to try it out when "unlocked" - may be a few days before I can do that. At least, if there is a problem, I can claim back through the PayPal process.

          Anyone else try them?

        • Update: Received an email asking for confirmation of imei number … hmm … waiting, waiting …

          Anyone else had any luck?

        • +1

Yet another Update: Received another email saying they are unable to provide unlock code, suggest I ask Vodafone. They will be refunding my payment in full (via PayPal) so I have no complaints.

  • It's still cheaper than Vodafone

  • Do most DSE stores have PayPass for an extra 5% off?

The last time I went into my local DSE store on the Gold Coast, they only had the old terminals which do not support PayPass?

Just trying to decide if it's worth my while to pick it up or get it delivered (for free) instead. :)

    • +1

In NSW some dicksmith stores have PayPass while some don't. I called 4 stores around my area and found 1 of them (Rhodes) have PayPass and the htc phone is in stock as well.

  • +1

    Another way to unlock:
Find someone who is with Vodafone post-paid plan, ask them to call Vodafone and say 'I need the phone unlocked as I will be using it overseas.' They will ask you the IMEI and will inform their technical support to waive the unlock fees. Once done, you will get an email to confirm the fee has been waived and the phone is ready to be unlocked. I have done this myself and now, I am waiting for the email. I will update once I get the phone unlocked.
P.S. It may not work for everyone

  • Has any tried unlocklocks.com?

    http://youtu.be/YXEHYIwI6cI

    Costs about $26

  • This eBay merchant have given a big exclusion list of mobile model and network/country that they can't unlock. This htc model or Vodafone AU is not mentioned in the list. So I guess they can unlock this one.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HTC-Mobile-Phone-Unlock-Code-Most…

I have not tried it yet.

  • Very interesting that this phone has the 2nd sim card slot without sim adapter. Possible it will work dual sim if I can find a sim adapter from broken phone and soldering it there?

  • +1

Just wondering to ask is there anyone managed to unlock the phone? I tried all of above links that was offer with other felow ozbargainer but all of them respond that they aren't able to do it.
just this guy's said that they'll give it try.but no respond yet. If I get something new will inform.
