Even if it says expired check for yourself, COTD often reset the countdown clock but OzB doesnt seem to notice that, it just detects the initial expiry date.

UPDATE: The offer is open ended now, no expiry date is given. But I cant remove the end date, the system auto inserts one now so I just made one up, 20th May.

I searched previous deals and it seems theyve been offered @ $129 before.

  • Been wanting to buy for a while! Thanks!

  • This seems like a good price, but now I have to research to find out if they have decent sound quality and how they compare to other similarly priced headphones.

    • +3

Sound qual is pretty good. Charging is a bit of a pain though. I miss the stand that my other model used to have. This one is just plugs :(

      • how is the sound quality compared to other headphones you have? (what do you have?)

i'm interested in how the sennheiser kleer range (rs160/170/180) compares to decent bluetooth headphones like the UE9000 (which i already own). have always thought about getting an RS170 and RS180 for tandem wireless usage…

        • +2

No matter how good a BT device is, BT requires greater compression than standard wireless devices. As such if all else is equal in source and sound producing device, the BT will sound worse.

        • thanks, but that does not answer my question.

a wireless headphone is more than just the wireless technology utilised. there is the actual driver/cup that makes a huge difference, and there is the internal amp that makes a huge difference.

what do you reckon would sound better: a kleer wireless version of the koss portapro with a fiio internal amp, or an Apt-X bluetooth version of the HD800 with a schiit internal amp? my money is on the latter…

and you are incorrect: if the source files are lower than the bitrate of the BT transmission codec utilised, then the BT device will not sound worse. (i believe Apt-X has a data rate of 352kbps, which is good enough for me.)

          but thanks for your input.

  • It's $103.93 delivered and still a good price. Although it's a 4 year old headphone. They seem to have good reviews on Amazon.

  • Thanks OP… I thank you, my wife thanks you, and I'm pretty sure my neighbours will thank you too when they can no longer hear my TV at night.

    • +2

Yeah my Mrs is losing her hearing a bit too after a middle ear infection a while back. Im buying them for the same reason, except not the neighbours, Im sick of hearing through walls, and upstairs, and over the other TV Im trying to watch.

She can watch hers …and Ill wear the headphones lol.

I have this, range is good, sound quality is also good. Its very snug in the ear which makes it hot and a bit uncomfortable if used for long hours, about 3 hours. You would want a stand for storing. I got it for 160usd in the us, so this is a good price.

    • Then.. why no "+" ?

  • After reading numerous reviews these headphones are well rated, and appear to be a bargain for around $100. So I ordered set. :) Thanks

  • +2

Arhh damn, bought these for $130 from COTD a few weeks ago and thought they were a good bargain at that price.

I'm no audiophile but I'm enjoying mine - also they came with two AAA eneloops so should be an OzB hit ;)

    • +1

Do you mean genuine Eneloops, or do you use that word for all rechargeable nimh batteries?

      • the RS160 i bought came with eneloops

      • If they have 'eneloop' printed on the side of the battery… then I call them 'eneloops'. Are there fake eneloops?

        • -1

Theres fake everything. But I just wondered if like with cola many say Coke no matter what brand.

Generally this sort of thing comes with some generic nimhs. Eneloops will be a delightful surprise.

    • I'm sorry to read that. I'm honestly not expecting much, hopefully they are better sounding than my HD 439.

  • +1

I have the RS170, there's a slight annoying high pitched noise (barely noticable) that you can kinda hear when it's turned on and no music is playing. Gets annoying after a while…(so make sure there's always sound playing when you plug these in)

Still very good stuff though. Sound quality is superbly high for a wireless set of headphones

Am I correct that analog wireless headphones only exist to piss people off and degrade sound quality, and that lossless bluetooth digital headphones can be manufactured for the same cost?

    • +1

      lossless bluetooth digital

You want to run that past me again.
Bluetooth and Lossless is oxymoronic. V3 improved greatly with speed so allowing for better compression, but it still compresses the hell out of audio compared to standard wireless or even AirPly.

      • Bluetooth and Lossless is oxymoronic.

again, you are factually incorrect. you are conflating the playback of lossless compressed audio and the lossless transmission of audio.

"lossless" just refers to the perfect reproduction of data. if the original data has a lower bitrate than the datarate that can be handled by the BT codec being utilised, for example if the source FILES are lossy compressed, then transmission of those lossy compressed audio files is lossless (the TRANSMISSION is lossless).

ps. there is an "Apt-X Lossless" bluetooth codec, which is not COMPLETELY lossless as it utilises a hybrid compression with lossy compression where needed, but i would wager that it would play a lot of people's music collections losslessly just fine!

      • V3 improved greatly with speed so allowing for better compression

SBC (designed to "obtain high quality audio at medium bit rates, and having a low computational complexity") is the only mandatory A2DP codec and its maximum stereo bandwidth is 345Kb/s, which even BT v1.1 can (theoretically) do twice that. AAC and MP3 are optional A2DP codecs would also stream very well within that bandwidth envelope.
So, (within casual use context) sound quality issue has not about bandwidth but about negotiated codec supported by both, sender and receiver, which by default has been SBC. Read Bluetooth: Sufficient fidelity even for average listeners?

I got this headphone (also from CoTD) and it's excellent - far exceeding in its intended use of casual TV viewing and non-audiophile listening. Its standout feature is ability for one transmitter to broadcast to up to 4 headphone receivers.

BTW. all transmission is always analogue - digital stream is always modulated into an analogue signal for transmission.

    • no, you are not correct. analog wireless and bluetooth wireless (and regular wireless wireless) are just different wireless technologies, with different strengths and weaknesses, and different applications.

  • Thanks OP, might order a pair for the training room at work.

For home, I might hold out for the 170/180.

  • Clock reset, deal is still going.

  • This is a good deal. I got one in 2012 for $169 from COTD. I use it when watching TV working out on my elliptical trainer or at night when all are asleep.

Sound quality is good. Its quite comfortable but can get a bit warm due to the close design. It uses 2 x AA for the transmitter and 2 x AAA for the headphone. I use eneloops for both and it lasts a long time (weeks). When it runs out, I just take it out and swap for another set of eneloops. Pretty simple. Don't have to worry about forgetting to charge it. The batteries are very easy to change over.

Enjoy! You can't go wrong here.

  • "… ready to ship… Expect Dispatch in 5 - 7 days."
    smell a rat ?

clock reset again, after one or two days of it finishing :/

  • Received this today from Aus Post. It's an excellent wireless headphone. The sound is very good and very comfortable to wear.

    I highly recommend it.
