FREE UberX Share-Rides (30min/10km) from Kings Cross 1.30am-3.30am Saturdays+Sundays This Month

30

We enjoy partying in Kings Cross as much as anybody else, but getting home around lockout time is not one of Sydney’s best experiences.

Your Uber ride-sharing community is here to help. Throughout May, your uberX drivers are providing free* rides within our core service area to get you home safe from Kings Cross during weekend lockout hours.

For more details of the insurance and safety in place during each ride-sharing trip, see uber.com/ozridesharing.

*This is for all uberX ride requests originating from Kings Cross between 01:30 to 03:30 am Friday and Saturday nights during May. The core service area is displayed here. Journeys must be less than 30 minutes and 10km to qualify. Promotion does not apply to uberTAXI, UberBLACK or UberLUX rides. Given the expected demand, availability may be limited.

Never mind safety concerns - I'd be more worried about what passengers might decide to "leave behind" in my car!!

I sure as hell wouldn't be offering my services…

No one wants a lift in your Datto 180B anyways, so hardly a huge loss to society.

      • I wish I had a 180B - those cars are awesome!!

Since this is illegal, perhaps it shouldn't be posted here…

Uber gives free rides in snub to authorities

      :)

      • Well, not exactly… It's free, and as a result, possibly legal during the very specific time, day & location provided.

At all other times, it's illegal, in NSW, according to current laws.

        • At all other times, it's illegal

to be a ride-sharing driver not passenger :)

    • Did you read the article you posted?

"The law is clear and has not changed: if a NSW driver is taking paying members of the public as passengers, the driver and the vehicle must operate in accordance with the Passenger Transport Act"

Note that its FREE this month.

My bad. I read the article but not the deal too closely.

Interesting publicity stunt but bad idea IMO. Drunk customers will scare away all the drivers.

    • Then the drunken guy will be sure to get a bad rating to make sure nobody will pick him up any more, beauty of Uber's reputation system

      • +1

Right. Because they come out of Kings Cross sober during those times. I think there is already another service which does this before uber. Ambos and paddy wagons. It would be safer to get people from junkie central

    • Yeah, I don't get this. Who has responsibility when the drunk passenger spews all through the back of the car. Will Uber reimburse the driver? Will the driver have to heavy the passenger ala current taxi drivers "you owe me $50 cleaning fee" etc?
