360

David Jones at Hornsby has a shop floor sale which includes the Asus Eee PC 701.
Thursday (last) night both black and white units had $199 price stickers.

I did not ask if there were additional unopened boxes in stock at this price, so you might want to phone to check:

  • I called there is 1 black and 1 pink left, display (demo) models.

  • Hi Bizi, Good find :)

I've looked at your blog before and the only thing I seen was air fares (today obviously there was some non air fare postings).

  • Windows or Linux?

    • I tried to wake one up at the time but it didn't respond; since there was no Windows 'badge' attached to the unit you can be 95% sure it's Linux.
If you are interested I'd phone right now and check - and see if they will hold it!

  • +1

Its not just DJs at Hornsby selling them for $199 (and not all are demos) and different colours are available.

    • Good news! Did you buy one?

  • Not me but someone I know did. Has 1 red dot right in the centre of the screen, the warranty says it got have 3 active dead pixels to be covered (or 5 dead pixels).

  • can i get it at DJ city? can anyone confirm this?

  • Which city did you mean (I guess Sydney)?

I can't confirm it, easiest just to call them (QQQ from COTD stated that there was none in the Elizabth st store when he called to "verify" my claim). Actually QQQ said that DJs in Elizabeth st had "No stock, only one other model on display", so if your happy with a demo then it still maybe possible to get one from the city.

Doesn't DJs have two Sydney city stores (I have no idea what is sold in which store)?

  • rang burwood and they had none.
the acer site does not show this model
    it is OLD.
    linux only.
was advised that unless familiar with linux, to give it a miss.

    • The eeepc is made by Asus, not Acer. Both SDX and SD models can still be found on their website.

But yes, totally agree with the Linux bit. Most technically challenged folks would struggle to even get wireless working on a linux platform.

      • Eee PC uses the pretty much standard and very well supported ath0 and I personally found getting the wireless up and running on recent version of Linux is much easier than very out dated Windows XP SP3…

        • While for the PC savvy this might be true, most people with no experience with computers will probably need to depend on third party support (e.g. their ISPs, router manufacturer, etc) for help setting up things such as wireless. From the experience of my parents, these companies would not touch Linux with a 10-foot pole.
