My honest advice is to buy a cheap ticket to LA next time they are on special, and take an empty suitcase. There are outlet places that sell them so cheap you will end up with ten pairs, if you are happy with last seasons stock - example I bought four pairs in Vegas around xmas for around $80 USD. From the Vans official outlet, so I hope they were genuine!
Look into a mail forwarder (shipit.to etc) because if you find them on clearance from zappos, eastbay etc you may end up paying less than $40 shipped per pair. Lowest I have seen them on-line was a clearance from Macy's for around $13.00 a pair (was a hideous style/colour of authentic, but still).
I just purchased are pair from http://stmonline.com.au/ - Large store in Sydney so fingers crossed they are legit. They came down to $61 after applying "TENBEANZ" coupon at checkout for $10 off.

I was very weary of all these vans on ebay. they arrived today, and they are much tighter and far less comfortable than me real vans (to be fair they are old and stretched out, but i don't remember them being that bad brand new). They look identical to the real ones, everything from stitching to sole pattern even with two letters on the bottom of the soles of the shoes. However they said made in vietnam. My real ones are Chinese, and I've confirmed with a friend that ones he bought are made in china too. Can anyone else comment on this?
Obviously this is from a different seller, but having all these pairs well below the standard Australian price is dodgy. (vans are around $40-50 in the US).
Does anyone know where i can get cheap real ones from?
