  • Why is this good?

    • +1

I don't know about "good". It's OK. It launched in 2012 and it's sporting an ancient SandForce NAND controller whose weak point is random read/write speeds. It's way down at the bottom of the pack in the current SSD line-up.

It's about on par with an old Crucial M4 256GB (which are really slow by current standards).

There's no reason anyone should get this over the excellent Samsung Evo 840 250GB for $153 + delivery. The 120GB version is $80.

  • Check Amazon. You'll see far better bang for buck options. eg
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/137763

Also for Newegg, they will apparently not pay for return shipping for RMA's — stick with Amazon's service.

  • Newegg doesn't ship to Australia correct me if i am wrong.

  • Makes me wonder why you'll buy this Intel 180GB SSD when Newegg has the Crucial M500 240GB SSD for $122.81 USD + delivery?. Wouldn't that one be slightly cheaper delivered than this Intel 180GB SSD?. Actually the Crucial 240GB SSD is $144.66 AUD delivered. Personally i'd rather this Crucial M500 240GB SSD over that Intel SSD. But that's my opinion.

When it comes to SSD, only Intel and Samsung matters regarding quality. If you have budget constraints, then its another story :)

      • +1

To be fair Intel has been out of the game for close to a year now without a decent, competitive model and Micron (Crucial's parent company) are just as big as Samsung and Intel. The only Intel SSD really worth considering is the 530 240GB, but for that money you might as well stretch to get a Samsung Evo.

The only thing Intel SSDs have always had going for them are the generous 5-year warranties.

Right now it's Crucial for budget; Samsung/SanDisk for performance.

        • Interesting, guess I have not looked over the SSD market for the past year.

Can you suggest a bang for the bucks Samsung SSD (500+ GB), to be used in high performance computing (simulations etc)?

        • -1

"Samsung SSD (500+ GB)" essentially locks you into the Samsung evo 1tb, no point in even debating other options if you're biased towards Samsung.

        • +1

High performance computing results in lots of data, so it must be 500+ GB.

People who are negging, your insightful comments/suggestions are also welcome beside the down votes, Thank you!

    • Edit: actually it's $122.81 AUD + delivery since all the prices are listed as $ AUD. My mistake.

Well, The answer is Yes & No.

I can also rephrase your question as : Why will you buy a Mercedes for $70K when you can buy a Toyota for $40K ?

Also "bargainaus" above rightly mentioned, its hard to match the quality of Intel & Samsung.

  • what the hell is wrong with neweggs website i went through all there refurb laptops all out of stock so i had a look at brand new tablets both android and windows 8.1 out of stock
so i just checked on the prices for a blu ray drive for my pc out of stock

    • Maybe because they're actually all out of stock.

      • i just randomly clicked on over 50 completely random itens and there all out of stock.
        talk about wasting people time.

    • Ahhhh I think you'll find everything (within reason) that is outta stock are items then 'won't' ship to Australia.

I've been searching on 780gtx cards…..all outta stock…then change currency to USA with USA address….all in stock and prices available.

It's a easy way to say -can't ship to you.

      • i thought they simply didnt include the items not avalible to us since i clicked Australia and AUD.
how can a simply disk drive non blu ray not ship to us.

        • you have to select the Global section. are you having these issues with that selected?

clicking add links will take you out of the Global section / restriction.
