Its 437.99 specifically.
Was going to get that but got this instead.
can't wait for the price to go down further :)
Cheers.
FYI, cheapest chipping to Melbourne is $6.30 (apparently??)
Expidited is about $8.77
Global priority is $34.89Those are the AUD prices, the US prices, respectively.
$5.65
$7.87
$31.31Not bad though, about $520 AUD for the 1TB model - I paid $699? (I think) from PCCG for my PS4 last year.
Have you noticed big improvements on load times? I heard the PS4 isn't even SATA3.
That's an idiot rumour, of course it's SATA3 (even if it wasn't - the SSD would fill the bus entirely)
I had a 256 in my PS3 for ages, made a significant difference in particular games, almost no difference in other games.
It was never confirmed that the SATA controller is SATA 3.0 (6Gbps). What we do know is that the 500GB drive inside is a SATA II drive, which is odd. They don't make these any more, and if they did they wouldn't cost much less than a SATA 3.0 drive (if at all), so if it supported SATA 3.0, why wouldn't they just include a SATA 3.0 drive to begin with?
Therefore people suspected the controller was only SATA II to save costs. But it hasn't been confirmed one way or the other to my knowledge. If you have confirmation it's SATA3, do share your sources.
What I did notice is that in youtube videos that compare loading times, the SSD loading did not shave near as much loading time vs the HDD as it does on a desktop PC. Possibly due to SATA II bottlenecking.

Having put an SSD in my PS3, I know how much difference it makes, any seriously disk intensive game it's a major change - GT5 is an excellent example of a HUGE change in performance, once loaded to the SSD.
You're right about the SATA II disk in the PS4 but that's just madness, - it's Sony buying up a basic drive for a low price from their supplier, after all they need to buy literally millions of the things, if they save 1$ per disk and the suppplier gets rid of some old stock, it's a win win.
The chipset on the PS4 is a fairly recent AMD one, it will, without a doubt support SATAIII.
Sooner or later a game will come which is loaded to the HDD, has a lot of patches and extensive load times where the regular HDD will be painful and the SSD will dominate. I really hate load times.
You spent more on a SSD than the cost of the PS4 for a slight improvement on load times?

Yeah a hybrid drive would be a much cheaper option and would provide similar performance as the SSD.
Cobblers, anyone with an actual understanding of how SSD's actually work and hybrids would be best to avoid the ghastly things. (unless the price is identical, of course)
SSD's deliver more speed, all the time, in all instances, less chance of failure - sure they cost more but nope, just no - not a hybrid fan at all
Depends how big a priority the speed is to you. If you want a 1TB SSD, it's going to cost almost $500, which is around the price of the console itself. A 1TB hybrid will cost maybe 20% of that.
SSD is faster absolutely, but not the most cost efficient. It really depends on how much money you're willing to spend. You're obviously willing to spend more. Each person is different.
I think I would prefer SSD also, but not at these prices. When a 1TB drive is available for $250, I'll be all over it.
I had some credit with a supplier - I detest hybrid drives, they are idiot things. Either buy a small fast SSD for high performance stuff, or a big dumb disk for basic storage. Paying a premium on a regular disk for a paltry 8 or 16gb "hybrid" SSD on it, is simply pointless.
A small fast SSD isn't going to cut it. Every game needs to be installed, and the games these days are big.. 40GB+. How many games can you have on your PS4 before you fill up your 120GB?
Then there are downloadable titles and any media you download.
Oh look I agree with you, my point is, you either need performance or space - boot drive on a PC? SSD
Data drive? Don't use an SSD.I have a NAS so my laptop, PS3, PC and my HTPC all have SSD's in them.
I admit I "broke my own rule" putting a 1TB SSD in my PS4 - but it was for the long haul :) it's a beast SSD for performance and 1TB - I had like $400 credit with a supplier, it cost me a few hundred. We were talking about in the context of the PS3/PS4.
I agree that OS drive should have an SSD, but you're recommending for console, either small SSD or big HDD. I'm just saying small SSD is not good enough. A game might be 20GB to download but will require an additional 40GB to unpack and then install. That's 60GB, of which some of the space is only used temporarily but must be free regardless. A 120GB drive will get you nothing if you're downloading them. Maybe 1 or 2 big games tops.
A 1TB Hybrid is better than a 1TB HDD, and far cheaper than a 1TB SSD.
Whoah who said I'm recommending one for a PS4?
I said I'VE put one in my PS4 - Ihad money to burn and I HATE load times.I wouldn't recommend in a PS4 for 98% of people, I'd recommend an SSD for anyone with a laptop or desktop computer - even if it's just a 128 for Windows / apps / swap file only.
I would NEVER recommend a hybrid drive under any circumstances however.
I had some coin to burn at the time - saves me buying one later, I HATE load times. I'm in on the PS4 for the long haul
Just peasant things
Is 500GB for $259.99 good price?
yes
Now become USD $449. Might be good to get the difference refund for those who ordered yesterday.
Still showing $554 for me.
Was $449 for me yesterday morning and afternoon.
You can look at CamelCamelCamel for price history.
Just got this in my cart at Amazon

The M500 is also sub $500 now for the 960Gb model, at $429, if I recall correctly. It comes with power loss protection amongst other features. When it comes to performance, the EVO is definitely ahead though.
