First time posting a deal, so be nice… Yes, yet another torch, BUT this time with serious quality.

The dirt cheap no name or clone names like Tangsfire etc, are fine for what they are, I own several. But this deal is something else… this is a quality torch, at the cheapest Ive ever seen it offered. Normally these are between $80 and IIRC over $110 and at $80 they are a good deal well worth the money. But if you think a torch is just a torch then this isnt for you. But if you appreciate quality, if you appreciate workmanship, this is for you.

I just searched OxB and found the closest deal on OzB I could find to this deal, that deal (expired long ago) was for a Nitecore EA4 at just under %50 US (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/91140). A good light too, but this light is regarded as a superior light by those same flashaholics mentioned in that deal. Cheapest I can find this for now is around $68 on Fleabay (with free postage), and $71 on Amazon (havent checked postage). I did see one for $62 on Fleabay, but they want $17 postage on top.

This is the best value for money multi AA torch available. As stated, it uses AA, not the more problematic Li ions. It uses 4 x AA alkaline or nimh (yep some of those Eneloops can have a home now). You might notice the light has a stippled reflector, this gives a stunning beam with no artifacts. You will not be disappointed in this light. If youve been waiting for an easy to use, bright, did I mention its bright?, quality torch, at a discount, this is the time. I highly recommend it.

If you look at the linked thread, make sure you notice the battery carrier quality to get an idea of what I mean by these being quality. The carrier isnt plastic, its not junk, its built properly. So is the rest of the light.

Cheers all.

    • Good. I was afraid my order would stay in 'back-order' limbo for a long time.

  • thanks i got one. can confirm still going

  • Got mine today. Ordered a warm white but got sent a cool white. >:/

    • Are you sure you got a cool white? Neutral white (which was the other option, not "warm" white) can look pretty cool until you compare it to something cooler.

    • Yeah the beam has the slightest bluish tinge to it. And it does say "cool white" on the label on the box…

      • Ah, fair enough. I saw a few reports over at BLF from people who were convinced that they had recieved cool whites even in boxes with neutral white labels. Of course that's certainly not impossible either, but your particular situation seems quite clear cut.

I hope you get it sorted out to your satisfaction.

        • In the unlikely event that they actually put a neutral white beam into a cool white box….

Is there anyway to differentiate between the 2? Different serial numbers?

        • +1

Not sure about serial numbers as I haven't located any on the light itself, and there's no tint designation on the emitter PCB either (but there usually isn't, strangely enough). It's easy of course if you have other lights that you know for a fact are either CW or NW.

Short of that, you can use any digital camera that has a custom white balance setting and a piece of paper (or anything else really) that you know is pure white (or close enough to it). Just wait until evening, turn all the lights off, and point the D40A at the piece of paper (probably best to position the hotspot just to the side). Then change the cameras WB temperature until the paper looks white (or close enough to it) in the LCD (or EVF — whichever you think is most accurate). If your D40A is the neutral white version, you should end up somewhere around 5000K. If it's cool white, probably somewhere above 6000K.

Obviously this method isn't perfect as there are so many variables that are difficult to control for, but if you have some compact flourescents in your home with known colour temperatures (2700K warm whites for example) then you can test the accuracy of your process before moving on to the unknown quantity. While I couldn't say with any confidence that I could peg a value to within anything less than 400K or so, I'm certain that I could definitely tell the difference between CW (which are typically 1A tints, or close to it) and NW (which are typically 3C tints, or close to it.

        • Wow that's a good idea. Thanks, I'll try that.

Got mine this week, dead on arrival. It happens I guess
But now they're making me jump through hoops to even return on warranty, want me to make a video showing it not work…like really?

    • Some Chinese sellers do that because they ultimately don't require you to send the item back in order to process a replacement. This is because return postage rates from Australia Post are ridiculous.

But if they are asking you to make the video and send it back once they are satisfied with the video evidence, well, that would indeed be irritating.

      Anyway, good luck.

    • damn, one of mine arrived DOA as well! :(

      has your case been resolved?

  • Received my order Tue 6-May (Adelaide).
Item appears to be operating correctly.

  • Received my order Tue 7-May (Queensland).
    CW not NW as ordered.
Still happy to receive it and seems to be operating correctly.

  • Sadly mine never arrived :(

    • why do you say that?

my two (ordered separately) haven't arrived yet either…but i expect they should soon!

      • apparently my first one is waiting for me on my desk at work! (haven't been in the office the last two days)

so i'm sure yours will arrive sometime soon…

dewy, keep an eye on the 45 day from purchase time. If it hasnt arrived after say 43 days make sure you use the PayPal process to get your money back, or a new one sent. But let PayPal sort it, dont remove the dispute even if asked to by BG. Remove t when you have the money back, or a working light in your hands. But yeah, delivery can take 3-4 weeks. Some can take longer. Its not really the seller, its the free postage service we like to use.

I use Google calendar to remind me of the pending end date for the 45 days protection PayPal provide.

  • Ordered Neutral White and got Cool White. Made me take pictures of the label and beam. Offered me $4. Really sad to see here that it wasn't just me.

    • Considering their response is pathetic I would fight for a replacement at their cost if they don't want to offer a decent refund…. hopefully that will get you the correct item and help other buyers in the future with better support in this situation.

    • I got another one (hopefully the correct one) for $40. They could give $15.44 but not $18.25 to send my current one back registered. Weird.

      • How quick are you receiving support responses?
I wanted to take mine out of the house for the first time on the weekend and noticed the lanyard clip is broken. Lodged a support ticket on the weekend, still no response.

        • Every day at around 5:00PM weekdays. Perhaps they are waiting for a reply from Sunwayman. If you read the comments on the review in the OP it looks like the provided clip is too big and scratches the torch.

  • In hindsight I should have just ordered this same torch from another vendor. I still haven't received my order that was placed the day the deal was. Oh the highs and lows of being an ozbargainer.

  • Mine arrived today. Can't wait to play with it tonight :-)
It was ordered and paid for when the deal was listed, so people who haven't received a parcel yet shouldn't despair.

Mine arrived today. Thought DOA, but turns out I did not tighten the body enough until secure and flush with the black o-ring.

  • Mine arrived on Friday (Sydney) and has Neutral white on one sticker and Natural white on another sticker. I have not tried it yet so hopefully its Neutral as that's what I ordered.

  • I'm another one who ordered neutral white & received cool white. Grr

    • Same. What's going on rep?

      • The item numbers for the two different versions are the same. Looks like the packer didn't look at the extra order notes for the tint. Would have not happened if they gave the different versions different item numbers.

  • Got mine today, it's super bright, plenty of strobing modes and feels really durable. Never thought I'd have so much fun with a flashlight…

    • Welcome to the club… I am on my 10th flashlight now LOL. It all started with those $3.00 Cree deals.

  • Received my Neutral White today and glad to say it is what it says. Compared to a cool white LED and its a warmer colour. Tried it on a tree outside and the colour of the tree can be seen where as on the cool white one it looks kinda grey.

  • I just went to buy it and bang-good reports that the coupon has expired. Oh well, shouldn't have dilly-dallied :(

    Cheers

  • Just got mine and wow it is bright!

This would be the perfect torch if you were able to adjust the lens but you cant have everything.

    • Yeah it is… dangerously bright.

Tested the light in my room and had it reflect off the white ceiling and it looked like I had left my room light on.

Btw did you get what you ordered as well?

      • Yep sure did. I got the Neutral White version. Very happy with it.

  • I have a small defect to my torch.
I've emailed customer service 3 times now over an 11-day period and got no response. Pathetic customer service.
