Just noticed I'm not getting any Ad feeds on my Live page.
I'm using Chrome browser and I only have Posts (all) checked on Live settings.
Tested on Firefox and the ad posts are there. We're aware that the search function isn't working properly at the moment. Auto suggested store/product searches are still working as fine.
As a solution for now though, you can Google your desired search term and add site:ozbargain.com.au to the search term.
eg. Search for gift card - use search term "gift card site:ozbargain.com.au"
sphinx crashed at around 2AM. It's fixed now.
Can we extend commenting expiry? Regularly i go to comment when my items arrive (or not) but the thread gets closed.
Comments close at least 6 weeks after the the deal was posted (unless it was closed earlier by a moderator due to toxic discussions). It also often gets extended as it will only close if there hasn't been a new comment for 2 weeks.
If you have something to add, report to the mods and we can open the comment again.
sorry I know but as a long term solution if the expiry extension or something could be considered, some of my RoseGal purchases have taken about 7 weeks so they just miss out if the thread is inactive. some people also don't know that commenting can be reopened. Unless saying thanks when it arrives is inappropriate use of commenting.
That's not a long term solution, but a specific solution for rare problem of extra long delivery. We won't make a change.
@scotty: okay, thank you
Noticing a lag again when you vote on deals
Please note that there was a hardware failure on our email server, we are waiting for it to be migrated to a new server (as of approximately 9pm AEDT).
No emails will be received from @ozbargain.com.au until this is complete, the site is fully functional however. You may consider switching to web notifications at least temporarily to avoid missing subscription or similar emails.
We'll post again once the email server is restored.
The email server seems to be up and running now as just after midnight AEDT (will verify it was migrated in the morning).

Wtf just happened? New deals page starts with deals that are 5 hours old
Issue was fixed while writing this comment. Still, it was odd
Setting up a new pc today and showed an alert when i open ozbargain with HTTPS
Issuer certificate not yet validValidity dates on cert look ok. Is the clock on your PC correct and synced?
When Windows first booted date was wrong, fixed it by turning off time sync then on again. hmmm, probably just me
All sorted after an hour of Win10 updates
ebay was a bit funny too, I can't see images or upload them to my listings, and the notification bell menu didn't show
Reply button seems to be broken - gets stuck on "Loading". Both IE and Safari (iOS).
Working now, thanks team!
Good to know, thanks.
^Not only the reply button getting stuck on loading, but Pages/My Account/notifaction drop downs (and all on mobile), votes and user profiles.
Does it still happen if you do a hard refresh on your browser?
Working now
Just did a hard refresh in Chrome and it's still not working. Even the reply button is loading.
Also happening on mobile.
Is it working now for you?
Yep all good.
Weird, new deals page just went backwards 24hrs, yet front page is up to date :/
Using Samsung browser
Edit: working now (10mins later)
Anyone else having any issues with "Mark All Read"? It seems to clear the 'new' status off all the deals, but when I refresh they're still there. Only disappears once I manually click into the deal.
This bug was fixed yesterday morning.
For some reason I'm not getting reply notifications for some posts.
Been happening for the last two days, not sure if it's related to the new features or coincidence.
It is. Previously you cannot opt-out from reply notifications. Now you have to explicitly opt-in (unless you turn on auto subscribe).
Thanks Scotty, I've gone through the settings and changed it.
And for some reason my gender was set to female.
Explains why everywhere I go people have been trying to hit on me.
I left it as it is.
Can't find the setting :/
This has been bugging me too, not getting notified to comment replies and post replies
My account, settings, then subscriptions tab which is on top row next to lists. Auto subscribe is top option. Hope this is what you mean (and you get my reply).
I did, cheers hopefully that does the trick :)
I get the Ozbargain email at about 8.30am and quite often when I go to deals they have been sold out. I have noticed some comments made about 18 hours before I even receive my deals. How can I access the site earlier?
Just visit https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals anytime.
All the latest deals are there as they are added.
From the help at the bottom of the page:
FAQ:
- I keep seeing expired deals in my newsletter. How can I change this?
Go to: My Account - Subscriptions - Newsletter
Check the box: Exclude expired deals
From this morning, for some reason I get the desktop version of the site on my iPhone 8. Not sure if this is an issue or a setting somewhere?
At the bottom of the page is a link to the mobile version to switch back.
Eventful evening. First of all there have been some issues with BinaryLane updating the kernel causing a few our backend servers to hang. While the servers got rebooted, the front end IP address gets Distributed Denial of Service attack so got null-routed.
Thanks…
For a minute there, I thought OzBargain was being hosted by Optus
Is one of the subdomains down?
Like https://files.ozbargain.com.au/?
This site can’t be reached
files.ozbargain.com.au’s server IP address could not be found.
Try running Windows Network Diagnostics.
DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN…no thumbnails on 1st page of deals this morning?
Hi scotty/mods. Is you files server down?
Firefox error:
Hmm. We’re having trouble finding that site.
We can’t connect to the server at files.ozbargain.com.au.
If that address is correct, here are three other things you can try:- Try again later.
- Check your network connection.
- If you are connected but behind a firewall, check that Firefox has permission to access the Web.
Chrome error:
This site can’t be reached
files.ozbargain.com.au’s server IP address could not be found.
Try running Windows Network Diagnostics.
DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAINSeems we've lost the A entry for subdomain for the past 18-ish hours…?
I can try to find the old entry, then you can add it to your hosts file?
Edit: It works! :D

Hmm. Can't seem to be able to replicate what you are seeing. What ISP are you using?

Our outbound email server is currently offline, due to an outage at Linode. All our outbound emails route through that server to be signed with domain key.
There's no email notification until it is resolved.
OzBargain is currently under Distributed Denial of Service attack, since around 10:30AM AEST. The perpetrator emailed in saying that he/she is currently performing an attack, and requested one BITCOIN ransom for the attack to stop. While it's almost 60% off comparing to late last year at the height of BITCOIN price, we still decided not to reward a criminal.
The DDoS is still on-going, while I try to figure out the attack to bring the site back.
you'd be silly to even pay $500. we know he will be back again asking for more.
Depending on the amount of data being held ransom. If there's no backups, most security experts suggest paying the ransom and then taking steps to reduce it happening again.
Hope this turns out ok
How do you stop a DDoS attack besides the obvious block ip from similar sources constantly refreshing the website?
30 second verification timered captcha?
@AlienC: Pay for someone elses CDN network to manage it for you :)
Agree you should not reward them, as it will result in more attacks.
But if the attack was already ongoing, then literally anyone could have emailed in to claim they were the ones doing it.
There was a database server issue last night. See outage report at BinaryLane. Basically
- The physical server that our database VPS was on had a RAID failure.
- I deployed another VPS as our new database server, and copied the data from live slave to the new server.
Step 2 could have been a 30 minutes job but unfortunately I slept through the notification from (1) so the service did not get restored until 5:30AM this morning.
might this be the reason why the ozbargain feed in feedly hasn't received any new posts since 10 hours ago?
readding it to my feedly queue doesn't bring back anything new
I can't add tags anymore for forum posts?
Yes, we have disabled that as we were finding that many people were not tagging correctly.
Fair enough I guess, did see a few silly tags.
I'm sure I raise this every year but went to post an AliExpress deal and it rejected it saying the guidelines were not met. The seller has a 98.5% rating from 3606 reviews.
There is some parsing issue with AliExpress' store rating. We have temporarily disabled it — let's see whether it works.
Thanks scotty! scrim manually changed the store manually to let me post but at least others can now too
Anyone else getting pop upson Android?
Keep getting one when on here, doesn't happen on other sites.
Nope
See here. Force stop your browser, make sure you have the latest chrome, clear cache, restart phone. Let us know if it comes back after all that.
Thanks Neil, I tried some of those steps in that link earlier to no avail.
Just cleared and reset Chrome hoping that will fix it.
So far so good.
Still doing it, don't get why it's only happening here and not on other sites?
You may want to check your phone for spyware/malware. Are you getting any other popups other than Emblem Health? Is there any info button that shows what ad network it's being served from or can you copy/paste the source of the image/link. That may help track down the issue.
@neil: I checked my phone with Malwarebytes, nothing found.
And no other pop ups, just that one and only on this site.
Strangely it stopped yesterday, all I did was power off my phone then immediately cleared and reset Chrome (which I tried before).
When did we get Android comment notification pop ups, pretty nifty?
I notice that I can no longer hide deals since this morning. Not sure if I've hit a limit or not. In addition, I've set my preferences to only show deals with more than 7 votes, however I'm still seeing deals with 1/2 votes.
Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong please?
Tried to use the eBay UK deal for 10% off gift cards before 11am (expiry) between 10-11am. Turns out even though the expiry time was listed as 11am it did not convert to GMT+10 (QLD time, which would of been 10am). Is it possible to get the expiry of deals converted to the local time the user has set in their account settings?
Sorry on our deal submission form we already ask that the dates be specified in AEST/ADST. We can't assume that the user hadn't already converted into AEST/ADST before adding the date. It's best to report the deal so that we can fix it up.
I may have misunderstood what you're asking. For display purposes, we do convert the timestamp to the user's timezone settings even though we ask for input in AEST/AEDT.
Hey moocher, yeah the time for the deal expiring doesn't change when changing the users location/timezone as per this comment
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/426048?page=3#comment-6746…
OzBargain is currently under Distributed Denial of Service attack, which started at around 3PM AEDT on Friday 8 Feb. The main website's IP address got null-routed by upstream, and we are now using an alternate IP address to serve the traffic.
Site should be working (unless this IP got DDoS'ed as well), except outbound emails as they go through the main IP.
Amazing how difficult life is without the OzB live feed lol. Lost you for 10 minutes. All good now :)
Has this site started giving aids, or is it my phone?!
Only on this site… I'm getting STUPID uniqlo video spam at the top of the screen, that spreads down over 1/3 of the site content. Over & over. Trying to click X to close it results in visiting their site. ERGH!
Please clear your cookies/cache, restart your phone. Let us know how you go after.
EDIT: We've had 3 reports of this. Looks like Uniqlo is pushing some dodgy ads. Will report to the ad network to block.
Yeap I've been getting heaps of asian popups taking over my Galaxy S7 for the past two week. Browsing on my pc its not a problem
Asian popups? Only OzBargain or other sites as well?
Sorry I meant uniqlo and other asian type popups and only on ozbargain at the top taking half the screen. Tried deleting cookies etc and privacy settings on Chrome Settings with no luck
Seems to appear on every 3rd deal I click on.
See here for screen shot
@solidussnake: Yep, Uniqlo has pushed out some dodgy ad. We've reported it to the ad network so hopefully it will get killed shortly.
You can turn off the ads entirely by going to
My Account - Edit - Banner ads: No Ads.
Update: The ad network has blocked the Uniqlo ad on OzBargain.

Still getting the same ad FYI. Might take a while for it to get filtered out?
Same here, still getting them.
We're investigating why people are still seeing the ad.
Isn't happening for me today, might have just been a propagation delay.
yeah im getting the same add takes up half the screen and its at the top blocking navigation. very annoying
I have 2 avatars. How come?
We did a database move this morning (updated software + new VM) but turned out the new server is severely under performing. I much prefer doing this kind of database migrations at night when only a few hundred people are on OzBargain, but the DB issue is crippling OzBargain so much that I have to schedule in an emergency fix to migrate the database back to the old VM (but still with updated software & OS).
I'm doing it at 1:30PM AEST. This Facebook post will have the progress.
