I've got one of these and it's really really fast! Highly recommended.

  • +1

damn if i didnt bit on the sandisk 32GB usb3 a while back i could have gone for this!

    • ditto…

  • +2

    In AU$ it's actually $49.68 with shipping & handling of $7.81

      • +3

        you goofed

  • +16

    I want it… But I really don't need it… Must resist…

    • +4

should neg you for not having the ozbargain spirit…..shame on you…..buy ittttttttttttt…….

    • +2

really? an USB key drive worst on portability than a 2.5" hard drive? ಠ_ಠ

      • Spin disc hdd are on the way out, ssd and tlc based USB drives are the way of the future.

      • -2

I didn't say worse on portability, : / just not as good value per gigabyte. Wasn't that obvious : (
Got no idea why some (profanity) negged my post. FMD I even gave a reason why thumb drives could be the best alternative.

      • -6

You can't plug a 2.5" HDD into a TV to play movies

        • My Sony LCD plays off 2.5" external drives fine. Depends on the TV set of course. The Y cable may help (splitting power/data off 2 USB ports).

        • +1

??? I do this all the time.

Havn't been bothered to set up a NAS

        • -1

Thats what i use mine for. I have another one velcro'd to the back of the TV for recording and time shifting. A 1gig unit is heaps better than a 128gb thumb drive, regardless of all the negs i have been getting. : )

        • +5

A 1gig unit is heaps better than a 128gb thumb drive

          Uh huh.

          You are continually stating "1gig".

          Do you really mean 1Tb?

        • -3

Yes i did. I was pissed when i typed that.: )

    • +1

It depends on your needs, carrying around a 2.5" drive isn't that convenient. I would buy this if I had a genuine need for the thing. Its amazing how much data you get on a usb key drive, geez I am happy with my 32gb one. :)

  • +16

might hold off for 5 years and get it for $5 then

    • +1

In 5 years people will be throwing them away. A 120gb magnetic HDD was over $100 in 2005. Now I find them on the side of the road.

      • +1

Correct, but those spin discs breaks down over time, these static memory don't break down over time unless you write and rewrite it tens of thousands of times completely.

This meant 1gb usd ten years ago still works just as well and I convert them to boot drives.

      • +28

Which road? I am a real OB and wouldn't mind picking a few up :)

      • You are half correct, but a bit dismissive. 2005 was 9 years ago, not 5 years. And I also think the comment below is valid, as well as these are not fitted hardware inside permanently/semi our computers. They are very transportable and suit multiple devices, hence your statement is also half wrong. All tech devalues with time. If you try to eliminate that problem 100%, we would still be using pen/paper filling systems and watching puppet shows ( nothing wrong with a good old fashioned puppet show ).

    • wrong post >.<

      • I was too slow at writing the my earlier post. My reply was meant for " outlander ", as you could work out if you read that.

  • Thanks OP just ordered! Current TD is a Corsair Voyager its about 40MB/s seemed fast when I bought it… but not fast enough, must have more speed!

  • +4

    Great, thanks.

Ordered some 32Gb too - $14.99 (US) each. Total shipping for the lot didn't increase ($7 US).

    • +2

that changes things. will power weakening

  • Damn, the price went back down! It was $44.99 when first mentioned in the newegg thread, then went up to $47.99. Now it's back to $44.99. I should probably contact them.

  • Thanks OP. Just got two of the 128GB ones, will make great spares.

  • excellent just ordered, was tempted to get 2, just got 1

Been meaning to upgrade from my Corsair voyager as well

  • +2

thanks op, bought 1. Was tossing on either a USB or microsd for the t100, guess the USB came out on top. Double the space and speed for $10 less :D Don't intend to leave it plugged in so sticking out shouldn't be too much of an issue.

    • +1

The MicroSD can stay with the T100 when used as a Tablet. The USB 'Key' (Thumb Drive) can only be used with the T100 via its Keyboard (base).

I have 'gone for' both - this 128GB USB 'Key', and a 64GB MicroSD Card, for my new T100.

BTW have come across any 'problems' with your T100?

      • +1

I've never used it without the dock since it makes a good stand, however saying that I may still get a micro sd one day if I find a good bargain on the samsung micro sd pro (don't trust the $44 one on ebay as the seller never replied to my question whether it is genuine or not).

As for issues, I've only had minor issues, first one had an annoying key that was clicking so returned it for a new one (within 7 days so officeworks was happy to just swap with a new one). This one on 2 occassions would not wake on sleep but that's a Windows thing I believe.

        • This one on 2 occassions would not wake on sleep but that's a Windows thing I believe.

Same thing here. Only remedy is to press on hold the On button for ten seconds before releasing.

Good find! Just ordered one, along with another SSD which I've been looking for a while … with strong Aussie dollar recently … makes it a really great deal!

  • Thanks got 2 128 gig $107 delivered to brisbane

  • I would of got one if it was more keychain friendly.

    • +2

      From the answered questions:

Is there a hook or hole for attaching this to a string or keychain?
Yes there is a hole on the back end which is thick, but does not come with keychain.

    • You gonna hang something that's worth $60 to your car keys? It'd struggle to last 12mths.

      • my car remote cost heaps more than $60 and hang with the car key for more than 24mths now….. :-P

I'm in Sydney and am getting the following error:

We're sorry. This item can't be shipped to your selected destination. You may either change the shipping address or delete the item from your order.

Tried 2 addresses but still getting the same issue

    • Same here.

      I'm in Melbourne though

EDIT: After playing around a bit, it is working. I dont know if me ordering it via shipito then cancelling did it or if selecting a lower capacity first then cancelling did something or if its simply a server glitch.

      • -2

Which capacity? The 64Gb are not being supplied by Amazon so they may well not ship overseas…

    • +1

You need to ensure the seller is Amazon otherwise you get the problems you encountered.

The Amazon website sucks in that sometimes the default seller is not Amazon, even where Amazon maybe one of the sellers!!!

The easiest way to ensure Amazon is the seller is to click on the "new" link for the product. This brings up a list of all sellers. Then click the "Add to Cart" button next to Amazon.

This ensures the product in your cart is actually from Amazon and not from another seller.

      Hope this helps :)

Great find! Dont forget to use http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FE2N1WS?pldnSite=1 to support the charity of your choice.

    <<<Karma Gainz>>>

    • Thanks for the heads up on this - had no idea.

  • -6

Cannot seem to order, doesn't matter what size, the only one with ship international is $20 more and $68 for shipping.

    • +1

Have ordered 128GB after your post - was USD $52.06 shipped to VIC.

      • HOW???

Tried to order 2x32, cannot find any with international shipping that don't charge extreme postage.

        Items (2): AUD 31.85
        Shipping & handling: AUD 61.62

        Total before tax: AUD 93.47
Estimated tax to be collected:* AUD 0.00

        Order total: AUD 93.47

        • 32GB is sold by TigerDirect not Amazon.

        • The 32GBs are not sold by Amazon hence the larger shipping cost.

You need to purchase where Amazon is the seller, and they only sell the 64GB or the 128GB

          edit: beaten :)

          Great, thanks.

        • +1

Errr, no the "gadgetguy" needn't be "lying"

Amazon have limited stock and he got the last ones. As they are out of stock they won't appear in the list of sellers.

          No lying required.

        • +1

I tried all three sizes and they would not ship internationally, but now 20 mins later I can order a 64 or a 128….

There's something fishy with Amazon and international shipping I tell you, it's not me making things up!

Dammit, I just want something 32gb and FAST for installing games on the xbox360..

        • Works 128GB, try that.

    • Deal is for the 128GB and it's working. Have you tried the 128GB?

  • ordered one, 64gb is not cutting it these days.

    • +4

      He just doesn't learn….

      *Completely made up.

  • Bought one, cheers.

  • Just Bought 2 and a new 480GB ssd thanks

  • Can you install a standard windows 8.1 installation onto a flash drive?? Could you use this in the HP N54L microserver for this purpose? Would the advanced speeds of this usb3 saturate the usb2 header on the motherboard and be fast enough to run the OS comfortably?

    Just an idea.

    • +1

      just google
      run windows off usb
      yes you can

      • I know you can make a portable bootable windows 8 usb drive, but im pretty sure i read it has some limitations, something about not being able to access the windows store?? I want to know if you can run a -standard- installation, onto the USB drive, and if it would be suitable (speed wise) for the HP Microservers internal usb2 mobo header. I've done a quick google and come up short.

        • +1

The random 4k write speed is slooooooowwwww… you're going to need a LOT of patience if you do get it working!

        • Not my cup of tea then, thanks for the reply.
You know what would be good on a g9 microserver? An mSATA slot.
You heard it here first ;)

        • The store can be enabled with a registry tweak.

The default utility has some limitations. It is included with I believe enterprise. There are methods of importing the instalation files to a non server version and running it from there. There is also program that does this;Aomei partition asistant is what it is called. You could also create one via the cmd.

In my experience the AOMEI one didnt work; it can be due to it creating a NTFS partition on the device in which my UEFI bios does not like. The Command prompt one is a bit sketchy. The windows utility one seems to work the best. Your mileage will vary, my bios is picky (and i cant bootoff the usb3 connection)

Also I have heard some usb's do not have the ability to be bootable. In this case (providing the firmware permits it), you will need to flip the first bit off the drive.

Like eug has said 4K does seem slow albeit I have run the portable windows off an 5400rpm 2.5" usb 2 drive and it seemed fine. I believe windows commits core functions to the ram; as evidenced when the os still runs when the medium is removed.

    wut.

  • Been trying to get the 32GB drive but doesn't look like it will ship to AUS because it's from Tiger Direct. Tried normal mailing address and also a PO box but no luck. Shame but up-vote because good prices.

  • This is better than upgrading 256gb SSD

  • Nice find!

I added a couple of these to my order for my new camera.

F.Y.I, Anyone wanting to know the status of your manufacturer warranty if you decide to buy from Amazon I just confirmed it on the PNY items. There are a fair few reviews indicating these are arriving DOA so I think its a bit risky get this from Amazon:

    Email from Amazon:
Thank you for taking the time to write to us. I was able to contact the manufacturer and confirm the warranty would not be valid in Australia.

The PNY representative informed me the warranty would only be valid within the U.S. as Amazon.com is located in the United States. Since the warranty is not valid outside of the U.S. there would be no warranty providers available for repair.

For returning the Pen Drive, we'll pay the return shipping costs if the return is a result of our error. For our returns process you can either contact us by phone or go through our online returns center.

    • If DOA return to Amazon. Else I would still try the official PNY webiste. You can select Australia in the country list and they might be complaisant even though you purchased in the US. https://www3.pny.com/rma/rmaRequest.aspx

Their warranty should be valid in Australia too according to their warranty. http://www3.pny.com/support/media/Files/bb3b9da7-f74f-4196-b…

However, the following clause applies: "The consumer is responsible for all shipping costs. When shipping from outside the United States this will include freight, duty, customs fees and taxes. All pricing is in USD. "

    • Being your buying through amazon they are pretty good at handling warranty claims (and DOA items) so you would contact them first.

      • dyanmkie, Cope, it seems like the opposite to me. Further conversations with Amazon on email reveal the warranty is ONLY 30 days, buyer pays to return it, and there is no manufacturer warranty if bought through Amazon.

  • Got free shipping on this and paid with 28deg card, less than $50 AUD total :)
    http://imgur.com/GYMcSKb

    • how did u get free shipping?

      • perhaps a promotional codes.

        • yeh tried to look for one but cant find it

      • I bargained (with the chat rep) ;)

  • 32gb now back in stock with amazon (international shipping to aus!)

  • Just tried buying the 32GB version and it says it is not able to ship to my Australian address.

    • that's because it says its "Ships from and sold by TigerDirect, Inc.." again :(
It did switch to "fulfilled by amazon but may be 1-2 delay" yesterday.
      Keep checking!
