I'm not sure about Catch of the Day products quality.
Some good reviews are here. I think for this price, it's a bargain.
A genuine branded headphone with a specific model number will sound the same no matter which source you buy it from.
So, I don't understand your point regarding COTD's product quality, unless you are pointing out that COTD sold him fake ones.
No need to skirt around the edges with velvet gloves, we all know that fakes are sold on the net, COTD would not be immune.

Seems like a great deal to me, obviously they are not a high end set of headphones, but for the price they will perform very well.
It's all about relativity. Some may say it sounds good, other will say it sounds terrible.

If you want to listen to spoken work audio, like Podcasts, these would suit. If you want to deal with music/movies, please do not get these. I bought these from Catch of the Day a while back for the purpose of listening to my iPod's music, and they just don't sound good at all.
