  • Good prices on the clearance ones, anybody used them before?

  • +1

Yes I have ordered from them before, they sometimes have movies for $0.99, $1.99 (and today $2.50) plus $.99 postage. Its only a newish company (they had their Grand opening on the 30th of April 2009).

The DVDs come in a envelope (not padded) with a folded piece of cardboard (if one DVD in a normal case).
When I ordered some box sets it came in a A4 envelope, the box sets were again "protected" buy a piece of cardboard, this time it was straight and only covered the back of the DVDs (it was the same cardboard type as used in the single case dispatch but this time not bent over), no protection was provided at the front.

Overall I have been happy with them (I have only ordered their "daily special" and some preordered box sets (so free postage) which were under half the price that JB was selling for). I wouldn't have minded another piece of cardboard in front of the box sets (but still WAY better packaging then COTD uses).

I give this a positive vote.

There was post about this company before (I sure it was on Ozbargain but when I do a search on MovieXpress nothing is found (not even this post (I am sure it was from the store owner saying that they would be opening and to sign up for their newsletter (which I did), I then tried them about a dozen times over the last month and a bit)).

And I thought I used parenthesis too often :P

  • I've bought a few DVDs from them. Service is quick. No problems

  • I've bought from them before also. They aren't always the cheapest but the service had always been really good.

  • Same type of clearance deal that lead to the demise of EzyDVD… the (ex) wife of the guy who founded EzyDVD, then ran it into the ground, founded this site - so enjoy the bargains while they last, cause if they're not careful, what happened to EzyDVD will happen to them (I roughly know how much they're paying for these titles - they dont make much off them).

Good deal if you want any of the titles - they're overstocks / discontinued titles, so they are well under RRP & normal wholesale cost, but just thought I'd mention that useless bit of into too :)

    • what happened to ezydvd? their stores all closed? yeah I'd notice that, but what has that got to do with an online store?

      • EzyDVD had stores owned by the company, and stores that were franchises. Their online store was operated by the company, and ran out of their distribution warehouse in Adelaide … they held the stock & shipped it out as orders were placed.

The new owners (who are franchise operators - also own Video Ezy & Blockbuster brands) closed most of the company owned stores, and the distribution centre - sacking all the staff.

Orders placed online are now shipped by a third party wholesaler (who also distribute to Video Ezy & Blockbuster stores) - thats why theres no mention of overnight courier delivery anymore on their website… they now are relying on someone else to process & ship their orders for them.

My point was basically that for the few years before EzyDVD went bust - owing MILLIONS of $$ to people, their main focus online was all the crazy clearance sales they used to do - reasonable DVDs for $0.50 - $5 that they made next to nothing on. Great for the customers buying the stock (and other stores looking for cheap stock - as much of it is way under wholesale cost) … but I dont think any business can survive doing something like this, especially one in an industry as hostile as the CD / DVD industry.

I don't see how this online store will survive using the same strategy - their pricing on all their other DVDs isn't that flash compared to other stores, so people will probably just buy the crazy cheap <$5 titles, and thats it. But as long as businesses are stupid enough to do things like this, then hey, us customers are the winners. May as well enjoy it while we can.

      • what happened to ezydvd?

They went into receivership in December 2008.

  • Apparently the EzyDVD website under the new owners has the same team working on it from before the company went into receivership. Certainly doesn't look like anything's changed…
