Free flu vaccination - vaccine at pharmacy price

They're charging pharmacy price, it's not free vaccine.

    • +1

They don't charge for work, only material - so the vaccination is free, the vaccine isn't.

They are the best kind of correct - technically correct :-)

      • So I wonder what that price may be..!!
Earliest appointment at my local store is April 17 and some are not to mid May.
Winter could be over before they can help you lol..

        • It was around $25 at the local Priceline that I passed. If you pass one you could try just walking in for the flu jab. Nothing says that you have to do the other items.

    • Priceline Pharmacy Price for FluVac = $25

      They're advertising it everywhere.

I read that as "get your hands on a free nurse practitioner"
Think it is time for a coffee…

You totally put me off this deal now :p

        • Yeah most people react that way to jv's mug. :)

Blood cholesterol reading. I hope they are also measuring HDL's as the ratio is the most important part. Also if you have no family history of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, stroke even with an elevated cholesterol, it wouldn't mean you are in poor health.

Blood glucose reading. I hope they are recommending people to go 2 hours after their meal because anyone can have an elevated random glucose reading. It's not even slightly indicative of Type II Diabetes.

BMI evaluation. BMI is already a superseded concept. Body fat composition is a better measure and even then there are discrepancies.

    • That's why they are using a nurse and not a doctor.

They also don't have your medical history so these tests are practically usesless.

Their only purposes is so they can get you through the door, scare you about the results and then try and sell you fancy gadgets or miracle vitamins…

      Lifestyle discussions and recommendations

      Very unethical….

    • Random blood glucose above 7.9 is a worry. Above 10 is indicative (though not a diagnosis) of diabetes. The only sure diagnosis is GTT or HbA1c above 6.5.

      • We don't use HbA1c in Australia for diagnosis. Random of 7.9 right after you had ice cream would be normal so it means jack shit. Fasting glucose is used as an indicator for OGTT.

        • Fasting glucose is very unreliable. Easy to get a false negative depending on what you ate for dinner and what exercise you did since last meal. I thought Australia was going to use HbA1c for diagnosis from about 2013??

        • Fasting glucose is more reliable than random glucose and it is used as an indicator to have an OGTT. A non-diabetic person will have a normal fasting glucose regardless of what they ate for dinner and what exercise they did assuming they did not eat dinner 5 or so hours before the test. HbA1c has not been implemented in Australia. I hate it when people get this information wrong.

        • Chill out dude. HbA1c is a valid test for T2DM and is becoming more and more accepted in Australia as we catch up to the rest of the world in this area.

  • Nurse practitioners can also write prescriptions and authorise for "proper" blood tests, such as fasting BGLs, iron and aenemia tests etc including X-rays. It can be very cost effective to see a nurse practitioner if your gp does not bulk bill or is difficult to get into. They will also let your gp know they have seen you (following relevant privacy laws with your consent) so that the results can be included with your regular health record.

  • Revive clinics are run thru different pharmacies, not just Priceline, check the revive clinic website.

i'd say this is closer to the "free wheel alignment/car safety check" type "scams/deals" .. they're just fishing for rubes

    • "Free health checks" could potentially be worrisome for people who may be potentially normal.

  • someone should post where you can get free flu vaccines from.

Thanks, managed to get in with 10 mins to spare. Great results too so i'm happy! Cheers. Free goodie bag as well.

  • booked

  • Just saw at my local Chemist Warehouse that they are offering flu vaccinations for $14. But have to book, presumably the nurse only comes in certain times.
