Be careful, those rates only apply in AU, USA and UK.
It's a contract so the "no bill shock" thing doesn't really apply and excess is charged at $20/Gb.
Outside of those countries you can't use your contract-paid data allowance at all and it's charged at $100/Gb for some countries, $200/Gb for others.

      Countries and rates listed here:
      http://www.globalgig.com.au/HomeAndAbroad.aspx

Overall it's not as good as it first appears. It's a good enough offer if you're only going to be in AU, USA or UK, or if you are travelling through multiple countries and only plan to use this sim card for emergencies rather than day-to-day use.

  • Looks like $9/mth for 1GB data, and some other options too; in 4 countries. Pay extra for other countries. It doesn't mention call rates at all, I guess it's a data only plan.

    • Yes its data only. I'm on the $9/month which u can use in Au, Us, UK and Ireland. Other countries per mb used, charged by the kb I believe.

  • Is "Dual Sim" just a micro sim? (if for iPad 3/4). Or maybe it pops out a nano. In any case, $9/month for 1GB is pretty good - considering that Vaya is $19/month for 1GB. Although I'm not sure if this gets 4G or not.

On another note just browsing their website makes me mad… srsly who designed this thing it looks like it was made in the 90s. At least the Fb rep seems pretty active.

  • how is data charged per MB or KB?
Cause at 2c per mb that's only $2 per 100mb which seem quite good.

How does the flexi plan work, do you get anything for $5?

  • I can vouch for the product as I am in the UK at the moment and have had no issues. You don't get 4G coverage in the UK but do get 3G. I have had no issues with using viber or Skype since being here and calling / camming.

One thing to note is that if you don't cancel then you will be billed each month. I purchased my sim purely for my short trip back and won't use it when I get back to oz so I just sent an email to their customer services asking them to cancel at the end of the 30 day period I purchased. They replied within a day saying that my card wouldn't be debited and to just destroy the sim upon my return.

All in all a decent service at a reasonable price.

I'm currently in the US using it on the $19/3GB plan. The sim you get is a full size with the ability to snap it into a microsim.

I'm using the sim in a Nexus 4 and a Galaxy Nexus.

    • It's T-Mobile 3G coverage however a lot of times it goes to 2G and you will have no signal.

    • I can't seem to tether. Every time I do, I lose the connection entirely.

    • If you do put it in your phone, you will need to enable data roaming otherwise it won't work. That wasn't mentioned in the instructions.

    • It takes a few days for GG to send you the sim. If you are in a hurry you can buy them from Dick Smith or Big W for $2.

I'll see how the billing and data use matches up at the end of the month.

I think in the US, a lot of telcos disable tethering and they require a fee for you to be able to use it etc.

      • T-Mobile allows tethering and Globalgig says it should be possible however they don't recommend using these sims in mobile phones as they are data only.

    • are you going to cancel after the 1st month? :)

      • Yeah. That's the plan.

Just noticed my IP address in the US is resolved to threembb.co.uk. I should mention that the phone has said I have been roaming the whole time and have also received a couple of text messages from Three UK (ads for their services) despite not actually having a phone number. I have a feeling Globalgig is reselling Three UK's Feel at Home service which covers the same countries.

        • good luck with the $30 - if you cancel your account then where would the credit be kept? :)

        • No idea. The online dashboard doesn't show it. I assume that when I call to stop my plan, they will continue to send me a monthly bill showing the $29.32 credit. However, maybe because my account is not technically active then I will have to forfeit the credit? I'm not too fussed.

    expired/ozbargained?

  • not a bargain when you get hike by pro rata fees and try to cancel it, mind you the bill will NOT tell you how you used the "included" data.

If it is too good to be true, properly it is !!

    • What Pro-rata fees to cancel? Its a PAYG plans here.. No contracts, so pull out at any time.

      • I did note ITGUY's comment before signing up. I'll have to wait until I cancel next month but here is the very confusing bill I got upon signup.

        Signed up on March 27

        Got a charge of
        $.53 (GST Free) +
        $.13 (subject to GST)
for the one day of service March 27 ($.66)

For March 28 to April 27:

        $14.90 (GST Free) +
        $3.73 (subject to GST)
        ($18.63 total)

        So $18.63 +
        $.66 +
        $.39 GST
        Total $19.68.

No idea why their system works like this but it seems impossible to actually be charged for $19 (or whatever plan you go fro).

As for the $30 credit, it's actually $-29.32.

Close enough I suppose but the pro rata fees are a bit strange.

  • stay away, you have been warned. :-(

  • I have contacted their support in more than three occasasions for an itemlised bill, it never arrived despite was promised will be sent in a minute !!!!!
