Guys, this was two years ago when they were under different ownership.

Besides, if I worked there and they had gear going cheap that I wanted, you bet your arse I'd buy them ASAP, and you all know you would too.

      • +4

don't worry. DSE's limited stock sales would be it's own death when majority of the non-staff shoppers starts to treat DSE's "sales" as a joke.

it's not your (the staff's) fault, but it's funny to see how staff are buying their way into retrenchment.

sales are intended to draw in new customers, but in DSE's cases, its going to fail badly.

        • +4

I don't (and have never) worked there, but I also see DSE deals on the front page multiple times a week, so I don't think OzBargain is that committed to the "boycott". All they have to do to win OzBargain over is to put Eneloops on sale.

        • +1

i'm not saying "your" as in you.. :)

in any case OzB isn't the whole Australia, and reputations not easy to build but easy to tarnish.

You can't depend on just 1 product to sell when you are a 3rd party retail like DSE.

eg. if you depend on eneloop sales, all you need is some new player who comes in with better eneloops prices regularly, then what do you think those regular DSE eneloops posters gonna do?

        • +1

I think I have to politely disagree with you on this one. DSE is simply moving stock at very little to no profit margin to drum up their sales figure for their upcoming IPO (initial public offering) on the ASX.

They can simply show sales have tripled in the last few months & boom, the uninformed investor will be onto the stock in a heartbeat.

        • +1

no worries, everyone's entitled to their opinion. :)

i hardly think there's such a thing as an uninformed investor. Investors do heaps of ground work… the uninformed ones, probably is your nicer way of saying 'suckers' :P

Otherwise, investors are taking a calculated risk. Like how you would punt $ on a scratchie.

Going IPO, means the accounts are made public (sort of) and these things rarely lie, otherwise it's fraud or gross incompetence. :)

        • Someone already mentioned that on here Tseng.

        • thanks for your input :P

        • lets just say once dse is listed, these sales will disappear :)

          okay :)

i have gotten a ps4 from them no hassle, no waiting for $493, a vita for $169 from them by walking into a shop (no staff bought the things before i did) .. and infamous second son for $55 at launch with a hiccup in getting the pre-order for me on time which made no diff to me anyway since the price was $20+ cheaper than anywhere else…

DSE don't do themselves a favor when you talk to the staff who usually have no idea about the sales going on but otherwise buying online from them and picking it up or getting it delivered seems to be just fine.

enough ppl are getting what they want/have ordered for the deals to continue to show up on the front pages… they've figured out gaming sale and as said eneloop sales get them front page.

    • I can confirm. worked at dick smith for 2 years and whenever there was a sale or a new release of something staff would be able to get their hands on the stuff first for themselves or friends and family

$25 postage for the ps4 controller? Why did they up it??

  • +1

Watch dog only $67. Cheapest so far

    • Anyway to pre order this online without paying the full amount or do I need to go instore to laydown a pre order of $10 - $20?

      • Pretty sure need to pay full online with this price.

Looks like they've done a dodgy in cutting back their selection of games again. Only 21 PS3 games listed.

    • +2

at least there hiding the stock.. the other night they had 12% sale and basically put everything as temporarily out of stock… which then miraculous came back into stock next morning.. hehehehe

  • They have also taken down PS Vita 32GB Memory card. Dodgy (square)!

DSE staff all got issued new name badges that say "Hi, my name is Broden"

  • Watch Dogs PS4 is $67, but delivery to Sydney CBD + $24.95 -_-

  • ordered. not sure if i'm seeing things but the DSE site just changed the release date on this pre-order to 16/04/14. my friends' previous 10% orders were fulfilled/delivered within 3 days though so let's see if this is the same.

  • Xbox 1 is cheaper than PS4 if you consider the value of the free game (TF).

That said, MS must be in bad shape if they're giving away their killer app for free.

    • free game plus the camera. Quite tempting.

  • What a crock of sh*t.

The G27 Wheel was going for for $227 delivered, just LAST WEEK. Now, it's "on sale" for $303.

PC Game prices are still ridiculous. Logitech peripherals are still overpriced.

    BF4 for $67. COD: Ghosts for $76?? G710+ Keyboard for $159.

They've increased a lot of these prices, because I've seen a number of items selling for much cheaper just mere weeks ago.

  • +2

my major gripe with these dick deals is that surely they are supposed to make people go "wow, that's a cheap price, i better pick one up while it's cheap"…. by having these deals seemingly every other day it loses it's impact somewhat.

i want to buy a ps4 and now i know i can get it this cheap 3-4 out of 7 days a week, i'm just gonna hold out until they reduce it further.

    • Good plan, I bought one when they were $450 but have barely played it as all the games I want haven't been released yet. I just bought inFamous SS and pre-ordered Driveclub to justify the early purchase of a PS4, both at prices 5 times more than I usually spend on PS3 games :(
