I'm currently looking for a queen sized mattress. Anyone have any recommendations? What brands would you recommend?
Where to get a good deal mattress?
Comments
I bought a Sealy Posturepedic with pillowtop in DJs for half price, free delivery and free old mattress removal in their January Australia Day sale. I think I saw something similar advertised not long ago. From what I understand there are a lot of similar sounding mattress names — you don't get the same one at each store you visit; and this can make it difficult to compare. I have to admit the price tipped the deal for me - I only tried about 5 mattresses in one store - in the end I just hoped for the best. Good luck:-)
I bought from Beds Online (http://www.bedsonline.com.au/). Sealy mattresses are very good . Heard that Myer has upto 50% off on Sealy mattresses. ChiroOsteo is also good.
Costco? Some of them do have mattress for sale, it's Sealy IIRC…and you can always just sign up, buy it then refund the membership once you're done. Keep in mind you won't be able to signup for another membership for 12 months (not that you will likely to sign up again once you've made up your mind)
has a strange name, but this place has reasonable prices and good service.
bought our bed there about 5 years ago.. good to see they are still around.
don't forget to haggle

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/129795#comment-1788172Myers sydney cbd store has 50% off sleep maker matresses - according to the sales woman, it's unheard of. Sale ends this Sunday. Me and the fiancé are currently looking as well
On a side note, Domain is selling Tempura queen matress with cushions, etc for around $2600.
I'm looking to buy a mattress too. Is it best to wait for the EOFY sales at Myer to get one? The one we want is about RRP $2600 at Myer right now.
Mattresses are heavily overpriced. I used to date someone that worked in the industry, and she could get cost price, which out of a $4000 only ended up paying $800.
I would wait for the last week of EOFY sales you can usually get them down a bit lower.
Also all mattresses are different to different people. If you buy a discounted/on sale one you may not be able to return it if it doesn't feel right. Most places have a 6 weeks return policy.
When I was looking for a mattress for the other bedroom, I came across Tommy Swiss.
Was very skeptical at first, but bit the bullet as it was only ~$290 delivered for a eurotop double. Whirlpool also had some threads about them and they seemed positive. It was delivered vacuum packed in a tiny rectangular box with two castor wheels screwed in to the bottom.
Thought I had been scammed, but nope. Was definitely in there. Quite entertaining watching the bed gradually rising and taking shape from basically being a pancake.
It's actually one of the best beds I've ever slept on if you consider the price, and how much a branded bed of equal comfort would cost.
The edges of the bed near the foot are slightly sunken in,(probably from being vacuumed packed and rolled up) which makes it annoying if you're sitting on the edge to tie your shoes or something.
TLDR; Tommy Swiss make good beds for price/comfort.
For anyone's future reference, Tommy Swiss mattress is pretty good for the price. Actually very good but for me its majorly let down by the lack of edge protection/stiffening. That is my only gripe with it.
Good mattress will cost 3000 +
but do remember to haggle anywhere from 45 -70 % of the RRP
Ikea sultan mattress are surprising good, pity they dont have in King size
IMO comparable to a 5k mattress and you only pay $700 which 20 years warranty and love it and return in warranty
