I found their quality being ok - not too breathable and most sweat is trapped inside when I wore it during my winter bike rides. Well .. it's $10 so you can't expect too much.

    • Agreed. Sweaty and smelly. Not worth the money. Keep the $10 and buy a coffee and a muffin.

  • What materials are these made of? Just polyester?

    • +2

      Yes, 100% Polypropylene.

From website: PolyPRO is a great thermal option for general use. An easy care, fast drying fabric that wicks moisture and provides lightweight warmth.

      • Cheers for that. Are these a lot warmer than polyester?

        • +1

          Polyester is not polyprolylene.

          Polyester: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polypropylene

Edit: sorry I misread your post (or it was edited). Yes. Polypropylene is warm against your skin. Not the warmest material on earth but good for its low cost. It's also effective when wet.

        • Are these a lot warmer than polyester?

Polyester is used in woven fabric and fleeces.

Polypropylene is use for thermals because of its wicking properties, and retaining warmth when wet. They used to use wool, but this is better. Cotton is awful once it gets wet.

        • +2

          No.

          We used to use polypropylene.
Now we use wool, or in its new marketing terminology, "Merino".

I've used a lot of polypro thermals in my time (I used to do lots of whitewater kayaking and raft guiding, as well as cycling). They do the job - keep you warm and dry - but OMG to they get stinky. And scratchy too, after a few dozen washes.

Now I just about live in merino when on the bike. It's much more comfortable and doesn't stink. I still have my first merino thermal, which must be about 10 years old. It has a few holes ripped in it, but it's still going strong.

I've given up on polypro altogether and chucked them all out.

If you don't need to wear thermals all that often, these for $10 is probably a good deal. Just be prepared for the stench. If you expect to get a lot of use out of your thermals, save up for some wool. It's expensive, but it's worth every cent.

I went to get some at their last polypropylene sale - it was chaos, 80% of their stock sold out quickly and when I got there people were throwing around the remaining boxes trying to find their size. It's like Aldi and their ski clothes sales. Get there early, have a plan, use survival skills

    • +1

When I went to get these last time there they had a huge table at the front with the boxes all lined up according to type. It was deserted. No survival skills neccessary. Guess it depends on the store.

      • When I was there last year. The staff was not so enthusiast about this offer and they had so many stocks. It think it depends on the store.

There's also some bargain quick dry towels if anyone is interested:

    Medium Size - http://www.kathmandu.com.au/active-towel-medium-cayenne.html $3.99 was $29.98
    XL size - http://www.kathmandu.com.au/active-towel-xl-cayenne.html $9.99 was $59.99

  • Ordered, thanks for the post Mate!

  • For any cyclists - Front & Rear Cycle Light Combo - White & Red is $14.99, was $49.99

  • I bought a pair of tops and bottoms at the Chapel St store. The shelf is completely full and the guy is getting all the boxes organised. Empty store, plenty of stock. $19.90 in and out, thanks OP!

  • Picked up a pair myself. No chaos, but very short on sizes. Thanks, Mogonite!

Also, watch out, because they have two similarly-packaged types next to each other, and only one is on sale.

  • Wore these for a week straight 24/7 without washing while trekking through snow in Nepal. I was definitely surprised at how not uncomfortable they were. It probably depends on how you sweat though.

    • After reading barefoot's comments above, I'm glad I did not bump into your party in Nepal ;-)

  • Grabbed a couple to wear as base layers on the bike in winter. Southland had plenty of stock.

  • Lots of stock at The Glen (Vic), all neatly lined up on in size order on the back wall.
Shop-guy said the special would be over before Monday.

  • Modbury (SA) has a full wall too.

  • Still lots of stock at Macquarie Centre(NSW) around lunch time today. Store wasn't particularly busy. Finding a carpark in the centre was a shocker though, as they have closed off sections for upgrade.
