I already have the new switch and plate, just need it changed. Anyone have an idea on how much I'm looking at?
How much does changing a light switch cost?

Which beach should be the best to find a good one ?
(sorry tradie joke)
I would expect between $20 and $50.
Depends - it's only a small job so would only add about $15-20 to your bill at the very most, if anything, if you already had an electrician in your house doing other work.
But if it's a specific callout for just that then they have often have minimum callout fees of about $60-80.
We tend to save small jobs like that up and get an electrician out once there's a few things that need done.
How hard can that be.
Step 1: TURN OFF THE MAINS.It is a very easy job, but all fixed wiring must be done by an electrician by law.
Not that I suggest any qualifications at all would be necessary the job is so easy. The Law should apply to the warehouse that limited electrician can be the only one to buy those products.
Otherwise, pointless!
I once swapped a noisey ceiling fan from one room with the spare room.
Now both fans are noiseless - I should be a magician. So long as you can think about 3 things at once, (Green, blue, Brown)
Alas, some people can only think of 2* things at once - hence the need for laws.- and others can only think of one thing most of the time.
Except your house wiring won't be green, blue, brown? That is used in flexible power cords, extension leads etc.
Mains power in AU is done in Red, Black and Green/Yellow for single phase with Blue and White for 3 phase or White also used for a switch wire (Lights etc).
In these 2 cases the Blue wires couldn't be more different (neutral in flexible cable, active in fixed wiring).
it'll cost as much as an electrician will charge. can be $20 … or $1500 if he recommends you change the wiring in the entire house.
like most things it'll cost you as much as you want to pay.
With electricity when your looking at the light let's hope it's not the one you don't want to see.
Time to ring a few sparkies. Tell them exactly what you want and ask for a fixed price. It's a 5min job at most. Pick the price YOU are happy to pay. If you ring enough there should be one willing to do the job while in the area for not too many $. Might need to wait at home all day for em to turn up though.
Firstly don't attempt to do it yourself there could be a switch wire in side you don't know who fitted it in the first place. You will have to pay a call out fee probably $75. And probably another $50-60 dollars to carry our the work. If you do not have a fmeter box that complies with current regs the sparkle by law has to update the box. Ask for costs involved
Hope this helpsI just paid $120 for 1 light switch and 1 power point to be replaced - 10minute job.
Callout fee was the killer.
Sucker. A few dollars at Bunnings etc.
Law? I was recently looking at some laws, and almost every bicycle in WA is technically illegal to ride on the street.
Funny thing is, nobody cares.Bicycles will give you an electric shock will they !? Trying to do electrical work in your home without the necessary skills could have you shooting sky high with lovely luminous colours that your heart will not like
Goosey, you've completely missed my point: laws are universally ignored when stupid an inconvenient. (both by enforcers and the public)
However, to address the separate matter you raise, yes, bicycles are far more dangerous than household electricity.
Not in an instance where electricity is involved. Leave bicycles out of everything. Trying to repair your own electricity without the necessary skills can cause untold harm. What exactly is" stupid & inconvenient" about saving both the safety of yourself, your family & others for the sake of safety?
Who mentioned bicycles in the first place!? - only you- take it you have an issue.
This question has only been about changing a light switch !! Are you Irish? if so you must be part of triplets - one to hold the globe & two to screw it in.laws are in place to protect the stupid.
It's probably a good idea if you have a quick look around and work out if you want/need any other electrical work done OP. A call out usually includes 15 - 30 minutes, so you may as well make the most of it.
Less if you befriend a qualified electrician. :)
