Scanpan Classic Wok 36cm for $164.50 (50% off) at David Jones.

What's so special about it ?
- It is a big wok not 30, not 32, even not 35, but 36cm.
- It is not made in China, or Thailand, or even Hong Kong, but in Denmark, so you can expect very high quality and can be sure that non stick coating won't land in cells of your body and stay there forever (it is what may happen with low quality non stick coating).
- it is a brick and mortar store (as you all may know anyway).

If you do not mind buying cookware from online store, then you may want to consider this one :
http://www.kitchenwaredirect.com.au/Cookware/Woks/Scanpan-Cl…
They have them for $158.95.

You’ll save $5 but potentially may have more hassles if you want to return it or swap with another one (despite the fact that it is a high quality stuff, it may be faulty or become faulty after using it for some time – nothing is immune to that even Space Shuttle program).

The only problem is that David Jones do not have matching lids for them. They can order one for you for ~$89, but I’d rather get it from the site I mentioned above (after all a lid is not so critical element as a wok) for $44.95 :
http://www.kitchenwaredirect.com.au/Cookware/Accessories/Sca…

If you purchase it together with a wok – you get free shipping (cause it is >$100).
In my case I’ll have to pay P&H, which is very reasonable anyway, it is $10 only.

found the 3 reason listed rather amusing, I really don't see the connection between "bargain" and the 3 key words, which were "36cm", "Denmark" and "DJ".

PETERS of Kensington & Victoria Basement sell them at this price all year long and they have way better price on all other Scanpan product line than DJ.

There are plenty of retailers, both online and those with physical stores, that normally sell the Scanpan range at these prices — I myself bought a set from Peters of Kensington a few months ago. This "bargain" is more of a case of David Jones reducing their heavily inflated prices to something more in line with the market.

      • You are right; Peters of Kensington (Online and B&M) - $164. But yes I'd probably still buy this at DJ's as it is closer to me :P

  • Unfortunately none of these are in SA (or NT or WA I assume).
The keywords describe the product. The bargain itself is 50% off.

  • what an expensive wok

  • yes it is not cheap but it's european quality guys.
trust me. I'm a techy and quality of chinese made products is just pathetic.
Our company had all kind of problems with them (it's not a cookware).
think twice before buying stuff with cheap non-stick coating.
I new a lady who was involved in a research on this in a local uni.
She just said "never ever buy chinese made teflon, unless you want to have it in cells of your body within next 10 years, and then have a cancer because of it.

Again it is not cheap I agree, but it is only ~$100 more than a cheap chinese made ones.
I'll use it for at least next 20 years - $5 a year - worthwhile not to have a cancer.
