  • since when have .com.au domains ever been $29.90?

    • +1

$14.95 ($29.90 for 2 year minimum) has been the going rate for at least 5 years now. Before that they actually used to cost considerably more.

everyday price at netorigin is $18.95/2yrs http://www.netorigin.com.au/domain-names/domain-registration

        • Nice! The wholesale price for .com.au is around the $16-17/2year mark so these guys are making bugger all!

        • netorigin is the cheapest out there, but there are loads of reputable hosts at $20/2 years

        • Are they running their own registrar? Their own domain was registered with AussieHQ. I am not sure how much the wholesalers charge, but yes NetOrigin would be making bugger all on their domain regos.

@kamoi - last time I checked MelbIT are still charging the absurd values for .com.au. Don't know why they still have customers!

        • because they are listed on the ASX

        • And just found out they've bought NetReg.. Hope the service doesn't change, but I know it will..

          http://www.netregistry.com.au/blog/melbourne-it-to-acquire-n…

        • Not that NetReg has any relevance on the bargain end of the domain registration anyway. Both MelIT and NegReg are good at selling their expensive "packages" to the business people who are trying to get online. They did submitted a deal a few years ago that didn't go too well…

  • or we could just register them for around $2 at godaddy

and if they get popular they will keep them

I went with RIMITS who posted here on OzBargain a few years back, and have been very happy.

$21 for 2yr com.au registration, and $39.95 for 2yr hosting (emails etc). Very competitive.

Have never missed a beat, gone down etc. Just renewed actually for a another 2 years :).
It's not always about price alone… they need to be reliable.

  • Is spam.com for sale?

    • Not since 5th September, 1996.

    • why not try for spam.co ?

      • spam.spam

Crazydomains always has pretty competitive prices… but that's because so many things are not included (You have to buy them as an "addon", and that's expensive). So if you're interested in doing more than just updating nameservers - get your domain name elsewhere.

Not to mention their useless support that takes a week to reply.

    • I've found that the best option is to reg with whoever is cheapest and leave the DNS up to CloudFlare - 100% free. Then if you want to move hosting or reg, you're not tied down or have to wade through transferring DNS settings.

I completely agree. They charge ridiculous prices for their addons too. URL Forwarding, Privacy etc.
If you want a .com address I would recommend domainmonster.com as they provide many addons free of charge including URL forwarding, email forwarding and privacy. Plus their domain prices are also very well priced.

Another example of their price gouging is the fee for change of registrant (COR) for a .AU address.
Crazy Domains charges an exorbitant $140 for a COR! VentraIP only charge $19.95 for the same service.

They may lure you in with a cheap domain cost but once you discover all the other costs you will be sure to transfer out of Crazy Domains as soon as you can…

      • WOW $140 for CoR!!! That is insane

    • I'll second the useless support - had a simple issue of setting up an exchange email account. They gave the wrong configuration instructions 3 times and cost my client $100's in support trying to figure it out and took 6 days to respond to a s support request. They have no technical support other than monkeys that read steps off a screen on weekends.

Absolutely a case of get what you pay for.

    • Yes their support is a bit problem

  • I always find it weird that domain registries such as Godaddy and CrazyDomains market their products with the "beautiful people" approach (or hot chicks primarily). I guess the whole "sex sells" thing works even for something as mundane as registering a domain. I can see how you might use that approach to get a bloke's attention when they are walking past a poster ad in a shopping centre or on an ad on a website, but when the customer is already at your website its a bit odd, is it an association thing?? Would love to see differences in sales figures with and without sexy chickybabe on the front page given that everything else is equal.

By the way Phillip, does this sale apply to .com transfers as well?

Have you ever seen an OzBargain post with 0 positive votes? Not even the REP thinks it's a good deal! :)

    • +2

      • Ahh thanks for the clarification
