  • I haven't been keeping up with camera prices, but 600D was released in 2011 and there have been 2 new revisions since then. Seems a little bit expensive for an old model.

One reason to buy the 600D over the 650D or 700D, particularly for video shooters, is that it's the last model in the series with excellent Magic Lantern support (warning: may void warranty and/or brick your device!).

      http://www.magiclantern.fm/

      • From that web link…

        Supported Cameras:
        5Dc, 5D2, 5D3, 6D, 7D, 40D, 50D, 60D, 500D (T1i), 550D (T2i), 600D (T3i), 650D (T4i), 700D (T5i), 1100D (T3), EOS M, 100D (SL1)

It seems the 650D and 700D are supported. Was there something in particular about the 600D with Magic Lantern? I never been into the Canons, but I often wonder about Magic Lantern as I had a hacked GH2.

The 600D is supported officially and you get all features. ML for alot of those above are hacked or are user builds. You can get ML to work on a 700d fine, for instance, but not everything works.

PS, the only ones official supported with the latest stable release are:

          5D Mark ii 2.1.2
          50D 1.0.9
          60D 1.1.1
          500D 1.1.1
          550D 1.0.9
          600D 1.0.2

The 650D and 700D are still in alpha or nightly builds I think. For the price, the 600D really offers a LOT, especially once Magic Lantern is involved. IMO still the best bang for buck DSLR you can buy. I'd seriously consider buying a second body if i could afford it

Office works had these for $358.50 not long ago. http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Cam…. I would have bought one at that price if they had any stock left.

  • Kogan - $522.99 delivered (Kiss X5 model)

    • +2

Kogan doesn't deliver local support and warranty (drop in stores) like Big W ;)

      • There is no point singling out Kogan, because it is no different from buying a Camera from B&H, Amazon or Adorama or any other overseas online supplier. And I see plenty of Ozbargain posts pointing to camera deals at these businesses.

Actually, when I go to Big W, Kmart, and OW, their dirty old looking stock always turns me off - I have never bought camera gear from that kind of store. It always make me laugh to go into Kmart and see them selling stock that is many years old, namely the Pentax Kx which has been discontinued since March 2011. With the 600D being released in Feb 2011 you better check how old the camera is that Big W is selling - maybe it's NOS (new old stock) ;)

If you buy from an overseas supplier you have to accept their warranty service. In the case of the Canon 600D, if you need support you can still ring Canon Australia and talk to a tech or get the info online by emails or advice on forums. For example, if I have any issues with my Kogan Samsumg Galaxy Note phone, I take it to my local Virgin store and get support.

So you don't actually go to Kogan for support, just as you would not go to Big W for support - imagine asking someone at Big W about technical issues with your camera, they are going to tell you to ring Canon, because they don't deliver the support. And the "(drop in stores)", just better check that one, because they are more likely to say that you need to take it to a Canon Service centre, otherwise you have to trust Big W not to lose it and then wait forever for them to call you when its ready.

But hey, it is easy for me to say this because I have not had a camera break down in 20 years and I've had a ship-load of them. I wish some of the other things I bought, like TVs, had been as reliable as my cameras.

But you posted the price for Kogan and not B&H, Amazon or Adorama… lol.

        • Just so you can think about again….lol.

  • Maybe put in title (starts thurs) to avoid confusion? I know it's on the deal but yeah
