Norton software is like Malware that you have to pay for.. I'd recommend saving the $118
(This used to be the case for Norton software anyway, I am prepared to stand corrected if it has been improved)

  • They've had this deal a few times.

Sounds ok if you want the software, but check it's full retail and not an OEM version (bundled with the power board "hardware"). Otherwise you can get it for $50-60 elsewhere with some hardware you really want.

If it's the surge board you're after, better off getting it for $60-70 during one of their other regular specials, rather than effectively paying another $60-70 for software you don't need and a cheap USB drive.

    • Surge boards are pretty much useless anyway.. once the varistor (I think that's the component) has blown once, the board keeps functioning but no longer provides any surge protection. and provides no indication that the surge protection is gone..
Depending on the quality and rating of the component, a minor power fluctuation (that wouldn't affect your equipment) can trip the surge protection device.

A UPS is a much better surge protection device and offers continued protection after the first surge..

      • I believe a typical $100-200 UPS uses the same MOV-based surge protection mechanism as a surge board, but with lower protection and no "connected equipment warranty". The Dan's Data article has a skeptical take on those warranties based on a reading of the terms, but real-world user experience with DSE and particularly Belkin suggests the warranties are honoured.

  • Norton used to be such a good software. However its too bloated now, with useless features.
It uses up way too much ram compared to other antiviruses.

If you want something good and wont chew up massive amounts of ram, then try AVG or Avast, Both are for free, however the paid versions (Pro) are even better and CHEAPER!

    • get kaspersky or nod32. it's better.

  • Norton is bloatware - but they do offer a money back refund…..
