Philips HTL9100 Fidelio Soundbar - $693 at The Good Guys

80

Picked one of these up in the Coffs Harbour store yesterday. It is $898 in their catalogue (and on the shelf) but only $693 on the web site which they honoured at the store.

Best I'd seen previously was Harvey Norman for $940.

Installation was a dream and it sounds great. Highly recommended :)

Great price on What HiFi's Sound Bar of the Year 2013.
Got mine from Myer 2 months ago for $799 (+$16 worth of Myer One voucher.)
    Love it.

  • OP - please consider adding 'Fidelio' to the title. It makes the price more bearable, as the Philips Fidelio line (headphones, docks etc) actually has a very good reputation for making good upper-midrange stuff that gets a nod from many an audiophile and is of premium quality to typical Philips stuff (think Toyota vs Lexus).

Having said that, I would only recommend this still rather expensive soundbar if you don't need or want 5.1 surround, or want it but happy to sacrifice the true surround and movie theatre experience for the convenience of not having to install satellite speakers.

If it sounds like you, you'll actually be getting a top-of-the range soundbar at this price with audio quality that is likely to exceed your expectations.

If you are not in the above category, your money would probably be better spent on a decent receiver with a speaker package like this, which can be had for less money (it's an old deal but pops up from time to time). It's fully compatible with all HD audio standards, and unlike with a soundbar, you can upgrade individual components over time, e.g. subwoofer, main speakers etc.

EDIT - this is actually $946 at Hardly Normal, so definitely a big thumbs up from me at this price!

  • I've got this soundbar, and that is an amazing price.

Turning them in to surround sound mode is awesome! The quality is very high and actually surprised me. It doesn't support the hd audio codecs as stated above, but that shouldn't detract much from these.

Taking the speakers apart to get surround sound really is awesome. I can't have it set up as surround all the time, it's really a great option-in for me.

Wrote this on my phone, sorry for any grammar or spelling issues. :-)
