actually i don't think that is as crazy as it sounds. i recall people wanting to literally download the internet and store all the tv episodes & movies on their terabyte hdds

Am guilty of hoarding / storing Kindle freebies too. Thankfully it doesn't take up garage / bookshelf space…

    • +2

No just your time and attention span as you clutter the list for your Kindle with items you'll never read.

The irony that I (and presumably many OzBargainers) love hoarding freebies…

what's the tl;dr of this book?

    • "Don't get stuff you don't need."

    • +1

Haven't read it but it probably has stop acquiring things "just in case" you need them as one of it's tenets.

For some people at least, including me, it adds a sort of psychological burden to one's life that you're completely unaware of until you "declutter" whereupon you start noticing a sense of wellbeing and focus that wasn't there before.

brb, printing out four copies to leave lying around the house unread.

  • I know someone that need it but don't think they'll appreciated :(

  • How do you download this? I click on order and it says it's available on cloud reader.

    • +1

It's in Kindle format which means you need a Kindle, a software reader (download the app from Amazon) or read it online (cloud reader). You can get hold of the actual DRMed file if you really want to. Apparently Calibre can convert to other formats. That'll give you more versions to hoard.

Apparently between 2 and 5% of Amerikkans have compulsive hoarding disorder. Over time it degenerates into Diogenes syndrome: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diogenes_syndrome

Here is a short aricle on hoarding disorder. http://psychiatry.ucsd.edu/OCD_hoarding.html
It is rather disturbing when you enter a home and all available space is covered in magazines, newspapers, boxes, empty containers, stuffed animals, and so on. Some people even hoard pets.

The best book on the topic seems to be: "Stuff: Compulsive Hoarding and the Meaning of Things"

    • Is that all? I thought there'd be a lot more than that…
