Kogan / Aldi / Redbull / Boost / Live / Pennytel alternatives for Sim only with 3+GB data

I've had a bit of bad luck lately choosing a mobile providor, it went something like this;

LIVE doubled the plan fees, for half the allowance
KoganMobile closed down
Aldi ($5 more than Kogan) moved from 5gb to 2.5gb
Redbull - I cant remember what happened there.
PennyTell, they added $75 to my mobile data (for laptop)
Boost ($10 more than kogan) moved from 4gb fast data to 2

For the last two months on Aldi, I have run so close to the 2.5gb data limit AND I have been restricting my use. this month, I've hit the limit two days out from renewal date and I dont think I can renew data on this plan either.

So, What is your recommendation for a plan Pre or Post paid, that will give me at least 3gb of data and a very low chance of paying excess fees for data or voice. Looking back at my history, I use avg;

17hrs talk (1000 minutes)
3gb data (though would like 4 or 5)
200 text messages.

I'm not going to base the decision purely on price, and I live in a city, so I dont have to restrict myself to Telstra only.

Ideas on what I can get and for what price is appreciated. I admit I havent been able to make a solid choice in the past.

thanks

  • For Data only,
    Vodafone or Virgin are hard to beat on a Month to month plan. Virgin especially if you have another service with them. Take another $5 off to get their 12Gb for $40 for $35!
    For data speed, I'd go with Vodafone (since everyone jumped ship and they upgraded their network it seems to be decent nowadays). But if price is the only objective, then Virgin's price/Gb is

  • +1

    I don't know about that first kissmobile deal linked above… but given your call and text usage - and the data allowance that you aspire to have access to - I do think you need to signup for one of the other remaining 'unlimited calls/text' plus 4GB data plans.

    Amaysim (Optus) or pricematch equivalent on Hellomobile (Vodafone).

    Comments and links in www.ozbargain.com.au/node/134094 thread will help you.

    If you're unsure about which network is best (or just functioning at a basic tower-reception level) in your particular area, you can always buy a couple of over-the-counter $2 sim packs, install a free ping-test app on your phone, and go for a drive.

    No need to activate either of the sims, but it will give you a bit of a sense of where you stand before plumping for one or t'other.

    I was also with Redbull, then Kogan. Avoided signing with Aldi - or Boost - because I sensed the data-allowance down-the-spine forboding courtesy of general Telstra profit intent/scumbaggery.

    For mobile data alone, I considered Pennytel but knew that pricing would change dramatically if the company was rescued from their legal mess. Went with Transact (also on VF) instead.

    Nonetheless, all 'round, I feel your pain.

    • Perfect, thank you.

      I'll sign up for Amysim. Looks like there is a sweetener in there too with free FB and Twitter data, which will save a few MB's ;-)
