Lots of posts on this.
I have used www.travelinsurancedirect.com.au and www.1cover.com.au before and claimed with both. No hassles with either. Both come to around $100 premium for a 1 to 2 week trip to NZ.
I always say, get travel insurance which has no excess on claims.
I'd say the most common usage of travel insurance comes from lost, delayed or broken luggage. If you are renting a vehicle, damage to the vehicle is also common. You don't want to be claiming on these and also fork out $250 in excess to do so. So just check the quotes you get to make sure you can reduce the excess to nil.
I just found out about Medibank travel insurance which has nil excess and has a better quote than the above two. However I have never claimed with them.
