Seedless Watermelon 55c/kg @ Woolworths NSW/VIC

930

Seedless watermelon only $0.55/kg. Late week special at Woolworths, only NSW and VIC I believe.

Both the whole and pre-cut watermelons were selling at $0.55/kg at my local woolworths.

Cheapest Ive seen in a while, last week they were selling at $2.48/kg.

Perfect for these last days of summer!

    50c/kg at Coles today

  • 50c/kg at Woollies Kew (Thur)

  • WISH my local coleworths are open at 55 minutes past midnight..

  • .75c/kg today at coles sydney cbd

  • That is amazingly cheap. Woolies would be buying the watermelon at around 70c a kg so would be losing money on this.

    • I don't think they would be losing money. Say, they bought 10 @ 70 cente which is $7. Normally they sell anywhere between $1.80 to $2. Out of 10, they sell 7 at $1.90 which is $13.30 - this easily has covered the cost of purchases plus transportation etc if not covered in the 70 cents you have used. So selling the leftover at 55 cente is still not at a loss…

Instead of 10, the quantity they buy is thousands…..

      • At the coles I work at were currently selling it @80c and I know we paid 77c a kg for it, which is only making 3c a kg. Combined with the amount of poor quality ones we have to throw out and the extra labour required to cut and wrap so much watermelon, its hard to see us making money on the watermelon alone. If woolies arent losing money on this there not making much either. Its really just a promo to get you in the door to buy other things.

        • I think they know no one goes to a store just to buy a couple of items on special, we buy a dozen more different things (needed or not), offers like these (and like $1 milk) are more of marketing tactics, they know once we are inside the store they would make the profit when it is summed up for the whole basket/trolley..

    • I don't know how watermelon works but I'm involved with apples. Supermarket specials are paid at a lower price to the grower (as in this week we're having a special so we're paying 20% less)

  • It should be 55c/kg or $0.55/kg in the title not $0.55c/kg :)

    • Fixed. Thanks!

  • Guys .. Coles Parramatta has it for 0.50 cents per kilo .. save another 0.05cents

  • My local had what appeared to be 2nds…wasnt the normal good quality they normally sell, also they werent selling any 1/4 peice as usual, they were only selling 1/2 a watermelon, which for me is a bit of a waste living alone.

    • They would be cutting halves as the demand is so high for the watermelon that cutting and wrapping quarters is impossible to keep up

  • At this price they must go through an insane amount. No joke during the heatwave a couple of weeks ago we were selling around 1 ton of watermelon in our store every day.

    • It's not that hot but my local Woolies has shifted half a ton by midday. Most people who are buying the melons are getting more than one so they're going out quickly.

  • 55c at coles st Clair (Adelaide)

  • 49c/kg at Orien's Rhodes (around the corner from the Coles)!

They were doing something a little sneaky though - they had a big sign saying 49c/kg for seedless watermelons and had half watermelons cut and wrapped on top of the full melons. I picked up a half watermelon with a price sticker of $5.50 and thought there's no way this is 11kg… turns out they were charging 99c/kg for the half watermelons!

    • Damn, just bought a massive 12kg one yesterday from Orien's Rhodes at 69c/kg and I thought I got a bargain. Shouldn't have waited till today.

  • Bloody Coles in Deer Park still selling it at $1.49/kg. .. Bloody rip off.

  • 50c/kg at North Rocks Coles!

  • Take that QLDrs.
