How would a cordless electric one like this fare against a cheapish 23 - 50 CC petrol one?
My Dad is looking to buy one just for casual use around the garden and he's convinced petrol is better
All due respect to your Dad, but people of his vintage don't tend to understand just how much battery technology has advanced over the last decade or so, particularly in terms of energy density.
I've been using this exact Ryobi Hedge Trimmer for a couple of years now, and in that time I've trimmed our hedges about 5 or 6 times. I even occasionally use it to saw through branches that are too big and/or hard for its blades to "pinch" because I can't be bothered putting it down to grab a more appropriate tool, which is what you're supposed to do with all hedge trimmers. And it's still goin' strong.
Believe me, this is a tough puppy with a surprising amount of grunt. Unless your hedges primarily consist of thick branches, or you're aiming to use this model commercially, you shouldn't have any problems. No more than you would with a cheap petrol model anyway. And it's so much quieter.
I think it's all Bunnings the same price for this unit.
Could you explain where this is $198? It's $299 in your picture and the bunnings website:

In store only. Pretty sure it would be every store.
I bought the Aldi 18V hedge trimmer http://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/62400/15442/001.jpg about 12 months ago for occasional use and found it to be very good. Did a fair bit of work on the one charge, put it away and six months later was still able to do more work on the same charge. So for me battery power is quite adequate for casual use.
Thanks, I'll wait for an Aldi one.
Aldi 36v ones are out now.
$199 for the hedge trimmer, $249 for the chainsaw.
This Ryobi would be a better deal I guess @this price (probably a cut above performance wise.. pun fully intended) only it's in Just the one store isn't it?
I got the Aldi (Gardenline) one too about 12 months ago and now the battery which is Ni Cad has given up and refuses to charge. Not sure where to get replacement battery.
Mine is a Li - ion same as the catalogue. If you got at the catalogue time in March last it will still be in warranty. You can at least get your money back.
Yes I know but unfortunately I misplaced the receipt… So looks like it's going to be in the bin.
Yea that's in store only. Call up to find out.
Are the 36v Ryobi blowers on special too?
Can someone please confirm what capacity battery pack these come with, 2.6Ah or the new 4.0Ah pack?
Not In blower and it comes with 2.6 amp battery I think
Ryobi 36V Line Trimmer is also $198 seems most of the 36V kits with battery and charger have been marked down (Saw these at Bunnings Rouse Hill)
Seems really cheap for 36V. Anyone know how many Amp hours the battery is rated for?
Phoned our local Bunnings, they were unaware of any reduced pricing of these models.
Unaware sometimes just means unaware. Generally speaking I don't listen to anything that store employees tell me about their stock levels and/or pricing anymore because I can't count the number of times I've been given the wrong information.
I'd just wander down to your local store anyway if I was you. And I'd even get one scanned regardless of the ticket price just in case there's been an oversight, which isn't uncommon either.
Store in title please
