Gaming Rig, trying to sell, best place?

Trying to sell my gaming rig on Gumtree, been on for 3 days and only a couple offers to trade for other electronics, can't take them as I need only cash. Is there any place to sell this? Would cash converters or a pawn shop give me a decent price?

If anyone here wants to buy it, too, I can do 200 cheaper than the listed price, or 1100 for the tower alone if a monitor is not needed.

Thanks guys. I don't want to have to ship it back to Canada : (

You will have a better chance if you sell the parts separately. Also post it on ebay and shit.

  • I don't have an e-bay account unfortunatelly : ( OR paypal. And yeah I've had a couple offers to do it separate but I'm leaving in less than 2 weeks and I don't want to make it harder to sell the rest of the parts because I got rid of the better parts in the rig.

Make an account? It's pretty easy…

  • Seems expensive. You can get 16GB ram for under $200 brand new.

    • I suppose so, I didn't take into account how close other upgrades would be to the parts I have. I supposed anything like that would be offset by the monitor. Do you think 1200 would be a good price?

      Or even 1100?

Canada? So no local warranty? That would make it 200 for the CPU, 150 for the mobo, 100 for the RAM, 100 for the PSU, 80 for the case and 300 for the GPU, so 930. Even 900 if you'll be lucky. People on Gumtree are dirt cheap, you will never get 1200 for it.

    • No Local warranty. Warranty only in Canada…

Thanks for the help man! Will try to get rid of at that price : )

I agree with ethereal88 that getting $900 for the box is lucky, and that would be if someone wanted those exact parts. Most people would build their own pcs, and would mostly look on gumtree to buy bargains.

  • +2

It's not worth $1200. You could build a more powerful rig brand new for that price.

I would say it's worth a maximum of $750, not even the $900 ethereal88 is saying.

You're not going to sell it as a box. You're better off selling individually.

You spent $600 to ship it here?? Dude, no matter what price you sell it for you're losing $$$ big time! Sorry I would have kept the desktop right where it belongs, on my desk, at home, could have bought a secondhand gaming laptop for $600(maybe add some $) if you really need to game while traveling, or you could have bought your PS3/Xbox

  • How long ago did you buy the box?

    • +1

      It has a i7 2600K cpu, so I'd guess around 2 years.

Why not just bring certain parts home?

I flat packed my computer when I travelled to the USA. Had to buy a case/psu, keyboard and mouse, borrowed a monitor. Took it as carry on :P

      • I agree with Risser. And if you MUST sell everything, make sure you do a deep format of the HDD with special software otherwise people can still recover your data.

It's not worth it, but you'll probably find some idiot on gumtree who'll buy it at that price

  • +12

To be honest, I think the best way to deal with this is to just dispose of the case and PSU, maybe sell them off.

Then just wrap up the CPU, motherboard, RAM, GPU…etc. in anti-static bags and take them with you. They are small, so just chuck them in your luggage or even carry-on.

Mate you are going to have a harder time selling the whole box on gumtree if you just use a stock photo. If I were a prospective buyer, I'd be thinking scam straight away.

  • Don't bother with cash converters they don't give much for specialty (gaming) PCs. They would probably offer you $300-$400.

  • Post it on OCAU. Huge market place there.

    • You have to be regisered for lke 90 days before you can even access the marketplace

  • Its not even a complete system lol.. its missing the harddrive. That will probably deter anyone who have no idea about hardware ie the suckers.

  • Sell everything except GPU, RAM, PSU and CPU. Then buy an ITX case and MOBO. Take it as carry on, that sucker will be heavy. BTW you are expecting way too much for your parts. NO ONE wants to buy anything from someone going overseas because they aren't going to trade it back if it's DOA, alot of the time the stuff doesn't work, can't get drivers, can't talk to seller, etc. I honestly couldn't see anyone pay more than $600 and that would be if I was desperate for a solution while I hoped against hope the it worked. I'd say drop the part about you leaving overseas and invite people to test it out before they purchase before you take your HDD out.

  • Cut your losses mate.

For one, you're overpricing the system for what technically is not even a complete build. Even if it is only hard drives, that's going to deter people.

Secondly, Gumtree doesn't really have the type of people that would pay that much money or people that shop for full towers. Usually like me, they are after bargain cheap/good parts.

To get the most money for it, do what Voolish said and remove the whole overseas part. With that in it, they know you're in a tight situation where you would consider lower and lower offers.

    If i were you:

    • Take it apart and sell whatever you can't carry on. That anti-static bag advice in a comment above is a good idea.

    OR

    • Sell the whole tower for $600+ so at least you'll have money and will be beneficial over paying the $600 to get it back home.

    My 2 cents. Goodluck OP!

    • Yeah $600 sounds about right. I wouldn't pay more than that for it.

  • Honestly id only pay a grand for it.

The problem I see with people trying to sell rigs on gumtree is they want the same amount they paid for it.

I think 1k would be a fair price.

    • If you're interested, toss me a PM, I've had an offer but you may be able to beat it if it falls through.

If you want a quick sale i will give you $450 cash pickup for the lot today.

I'd personally tell you to shove it. Same for $600. This is why Gumtree is known for being junk, low balling retards. Like I said, $900, maybe $800. Any less and you may as well chuck it.

      • +1

I put $600+ (meaning at least 600) so at least that covers the loss of having it shipped over here. $450 is a low ball offer IMO.

I wish i was a PC builder in the U.S. Your prices are fantastic!

    • Don't be one of "Those" People extract

    • +1

Surely the video card alone is worth a hefty amount of that $450 you've offered.

      • +1

hes moving back to canada, he can get it much cheaper from newegg
edit: 350 is cheapest refurbished model with full warranty

    • No thanks.

  • Worst case scenario pull all the parts out yourself and take em with you, then buy a new case over there.

  • I can give you $3.50 for it, that is my final offer.

    • SOLD… but since I only have access to an ATM machine, wire me $20 which is the minimum I can get from the ATM and i'll post you back the change along with the machine ;)

  • I am interested.
I'm not sure how to send you a message coz i don't really log in much.
Can you pm me and we can work out a fair price

  • +1

I don't know how you came up with the price, as the parts will have depreciated quite a bit more than what you've put in the listing, but it's not my call :)

How did it cost $600 to transport it from Canada to Australia? Wat.

    • Yeah I used UPS. They wren't cheap. Initially I was planning on staying here in AU permanently but it fell through and I don't want to take another hit like that.

If you are going to be paying tax this FY, donate the machine to a charity, claim the value and deduct it on your tax return.

EDIT: nvm, item is sold now.
