This looks like a great deal to me and Im seriously considering buying it. The only concern is that I don't know if the onboard graphics will be sufficient to play high definition media which is an important aspect for me. Hopefully some1 more computer savvy than me will know the answer.

  • Good deal & cheap, unless you want to build the pc yourself.

    • edit:removed

  • Hmmm, not bad at all, if you put it together yourself, it'd probably cost about the same.

The onboard graphics will not be sufficient for playing back full HD media, you'll want a discrete graphics card for that, can get a 512Mb Radeon 4650 for $79, which is pretty cheap too!

  • Comparison with MSY:

    ECS G31T-M7 G31 All-In-One 4xSATA, 8Xusb $61
    4G Kit-800(2x2G) Kingston $74
    Seagate SATA 500G $79
    E5200 $99
    DVDRW $35
Aywun A1-977 $49 (the case pictured is Aywun brand)
    Total $397

Now, this doesn't include the build or delivery. The build and delivery for free does indeed make it interesting, although only a bargain if you're not into building your own PC or if you're no-where near an MSY or Umart or similar.

The G31 chipset does support HD playback and any software work the E5200 should be able to cover.

EDIT Oops, my bad, G31 support the likes of Blu Ray playback only through software. Which means the CPU will be working overtime. As someone else said, better off getting a dedicated video card.

    • Just thought I would add for the comparison +$70 standard MSY charge to build bringing the total up to $467.

I just called them and they inform me the motherboard is: Asus P5KPL-AM-PS (G31, 1XPCIE)

I asked if it will support HD media and she said yes… but she didn't sound very confident so i will need to do some more research.

    • Yeah, sorry about the first comment, it supports it only through software.

Probably not worth the risk if you want smooth playback.

    • As Tantryl said, it will support through software, but the CPU is likely to cause probs. The R4650 is a media oriented gfx card with HDMI out so it'll be handy if you plan on plugging this to a big ol LCD TV.

  • Damn thats a shame as it kinda reduces the value a lot for me. I dont play any games at all and was hoping not to have to spend on a GPU… Im better off just getting a Athlon 7750 combined with a Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-US2H as the onboard graphics will be more than enough.

    • Technically the E5200 meets the minimum and recommended requirements of, for example, Cyberlink Power DVD.

However, I wouldn't be surprised at the occasional problems with playback.

The guys at 9289 seem pretty cool, maybe you could give them a call and see how much an upgrade to a mobo with better onboard would cost? If it's only an extra $20-$30, still good value!

      • i called about this and unfortunately it's not practical as they charge $80 for the labour plus the difference in the price of the motherboards which was over $40 difference. Still I think it's a good deal and might still get it and just forgo the high def dream… LOL

  • If you can drive to Auburn in NSW (or pay extra for delivery), this seems to be a better deal - http://www.digitalstar.com.au/detail.aspx?ID=635
$479 but with OEM Windows XP installed and this store allows you to customise and upgrade various components similar to Dell, worth a look

    • It should be noted, with the 4GB and 500GB HDD options the price is $563.00. Which means Windows XP Home and installation is costing ~$144 compared to the 9289 setup. XP Home is $135 at 9289, but probably doesn't include installation of the software.

um depending on what HD playback for some reason my quad core downstairs q6600, 2gb ram + ati 3450 256mg lags a bit with full screen scenes in dark knight. Maybe it's the fact that the file is 14 gigs lol!

hd playback is done via CPU so dual core should be fine. Even my crappy msi wind netbook can do 720p

    • Actually more modern GPU's take some of the grunt work of decoding full HD content. Your R3450 supports hardware decoding so should take a lot of stress off the CPU. But when it comes to a 14Gb file… who knows!

  • Not bad - throw in something like a Radeon 4830 for around $120 (www.staticice.com.au) and you've got yourself a budget gaming box that'll run pretty much all the current games out there.

  • It's displaying as $439 not $419??

I got a cheap PC similar to this for my mum recently, partially built/upgraded by myself.

It came with only 1gb 667 ram, and a Celeron E1200 1.6mhz. But i sold those parts on ebay, which knocked $55 off the final cost.
    Added the E5200 for $101.
    The 4GB 800mhz ram for $66.
And an ASUS Lightsribe burner for $42.

The stock machine was $299 + $30 postage. It's gone up to $399 now, so i got in while the going was good.

I really need to upgrade the hard drive from the 80gb to a 640gb, which will add another $90 to the cost, but overall i think it's a great specced machine considering it comes with Vista, 4yrs warranty, lightscribe burner, keyboard and mouse, 1080P graphics.
